Really enjoying Loot Run!
The combat style is a bit like 'skill rotations' from World of Warcraft. Some skills build up your 'adrenaline' resource, others spend it. The 6 skills you're given at the beginning have a decent rotation aspect to them, with some contextual usage as well.
The game really gets going once you start using keys to unlock and upgrade skills. After reading through them all, I could probably spend hours just theory-crafting which ones to use together for powerful effects.
Choosing gear that is appropriate for the skills you're using comes into play as well, but I've also found myself switching in skills that go with that legendary sword I just found.
I would recommend reading the story. It comes in spurts, but (without giving too much away) there is huge payoff later in the game if you've been following what's going on.
Next up is trying to get farther than the forest in Hardcore mode...
