This is the greatest game on Steam.. I love you Lance Boyle.

https://youtu.be/99SVHOvIgv8 So for the positives the game does have rebindable keys, and works well with a 360 controller. And the game is at least playable but you can really tell this is the first in the series as it feels like a collection of half finished ideas. Really it's more of an on the rail shooter than a true racer, as you only ever 1v1. Add in some bad power up balance as well as limited tracks and cars to unlock. So although it's not totally awful and it is at least playable, I would only recommend you pick this up as part of the megarace pack and not on its own as the limited content will quickly wear thin.

I played this sooo much as a kid with my brother! The music is amazing! Lance boyle is one of a kind lol. Thank you for putting this up for us!

It hasn't aged well at all. Definetely clunky and the graphics are not pretty. On the other hand, they used to run on a 486, so what would you expect? Is mostly for the nostalgia and historical value. What certainly is still enjoyable are the host cutscenes. Absolutely awesome character.

megarace is really great it has a cheap price and if you like games that look like twisted metal it is a good option to buy you will not get tired of playing it

First thing...if you are wondering why a lot of people will have 0.1 played: since Megarace is running through Dosbox, it doesn't register time played accurately. So in order to review, you have to modify the config file so the loading screen stays up longer than usual. There is a topic about this in the community section. Since I mentioned Dosbox...you may see a lot of thumbs up reviews about people coming back to play it after years and think this is all nostalgia based. it can be...but just so you know: This was a game my wife used to play. She told me about it a couple years ago...I hadn't played it. She now refuses to play it because she doesn't want to get addicted to gaming. I also like racing games, but mainly AG racers because they bring weapons in. Cars + Guns is always great! This game is definitely old and shows it. Control is super simple. The racing is pretty basic. And the action is no deeper than a puddle after a 10 second sprinkle in the Sahara Desert. But dang..if it isn't fun.Just because it is simple doesn't mean it is not a blast to play. And I do mean...blast. You will be blowing through the competition and exploding with joy the whole time. The racing side of it is pretty simplified, so don't think about lines or picking the right build. Just jump in and gun away. And the Lance Boyle character just steals the spotlight. The videos are just so cheesy enjoyable, you will not want to skip them. That alone is worth the price. For $3 will you get your money out of it? If you figure the cost of playing this if it was in an arcade cabinet...maybe 50 cents to $1 these days....heck at even 25 cents, if you play it 12 times...you are good. So step on the gas and drift right into Megarace...its a winner.

Megarace 1 doesn't work with Linux. At least I tried Ubuntu 22 and Ubuntu 18. I cannot remember how much did it cost but was cheap. This is not about the money. Would be fine getting the game and realizing that is bad or good or whatever but paying for the game and not getting it because it somehow doesn't run your OS that's something that could be handled professionally. That's what I expect from Steam. Anyway. If you run on linux don't buy it.

Poor quality control from the publishers - The 'Linux' version literally downloads nothing.

This game being one of them! *Update* I've managed to track down and get a bog box copy of it! So happy with this! My main hope was that the devs put in the work to make it work on newer PC's, and thankfully it works great! I've had no crashes or framerate issues and have completed the entire game. The only downside is that Steam can't track time (cause it's DosBox) but that's an extremely minor complaint... Though I had to spend a lot of time opening and closing the game to reach the 5 min mark so I could actually post this on Steam... Sorry friends for being spammed with my playing MegaRace 1 for about half in hour... [spoiler] Just kidding no I'm not. [/spoiler] The objective is simple, take out ALL of the other racers before the race is over, by shooting your lazer weapons at them, or smashing into them until they explode. After beating them you get their vehicle to select. Each vehicle has it's own stats and are good/bad depending on those stats. If you don't win, your game is over and your final score is taken and put on the charts. Nothing else to really say. The default controls are odd (and the game doesn't tell you) but you can rebind them. To be truthful, this game is more FMV's than racing, but you can skip them all... But you won't want to skip any of them as that is where the true heart of the game is, Lance Boyle! The classy and amazing TV show host that brings the humor to the game. Lance Boyle (Christian Erickson) is probably the main reason why people love this game. I know I do! PROS: - Works great on newer PCs. - Lance Boyle (Christian Erickson) is fantastic! - FMV's are hillarious! - Racing is solid and great killing action. - Maps are solid and interesting. - Widescreen friendly. Yhough the actual game is 4:3, you just get black bars. CONS: - It's an old game, and still looks like it. Some people may not like it. - Steam won't track it cause it uses DosBox. - No Achievments - No Steam Trading Cards For those that were wanting to know if this port works, yes, yes it does! "It's a whole lot better than real, baby! Wow. This brings me back. Instant-buy. For 3 bucks I could relive a major part of my childhood without fussing with getting my really old copy to run, just launch and go - with controller support (ish) It's great. So many great memories and Lance is just too funny. Even today it still plays well.
