The moment you realise it's too scuffed to play, when the diary can't even spell Egypt right, the place it's based in...

Loved the concept but after an hour of struggling with the controls, the viewpoint and the bugs I was too frustrated to go on.

I am editing my previous review. After 1-2 weeks unsure cause I honestly wasn't keeping track lol. I posted some issues to the dev. He was very helpful, willing to work with me on every issue big and small and during this process we found some bugs. Thanks to previously viewing some of the reviews and videos by other players I was able to gather enough information to verify some issues some players were having along with my own. Together the Dev Khos and myself worked together to discuss them while he worked on the problems and found solutions. To the point the following changes were made: -Adjusted health loss calculation if falling/jumping from big height.-Egypt level:Fixed some scripting/materials not showing correctly in cave areas.-Added option to stop sand/dune slow reset, gives unlimited time to dig without loosing current progress(sand growing back slowly), sand does not reset at all. To access: While in game, press the Escape key, on menu there is a button at bottom of menu to turn this on/off. I hope you get some time to test this, would love to hear any feedback, questions, or issues. Bye for now. Khos has been super wonderful!!!!!!!!!!! While other devs ignore your issues with a game Khos worked hard to address them. I strongly suggest anyone who has passed his games by to take a second look and for the price try them out! If your still not sure before buying watch my live stream that I am now about to do on the new update. All I can say is this. The game is fun and there was a bug or 2. They were fixed and in addition he made it possible to dig better and keep things undug which made me super happy! I also picked up a new pc which also solved some of my issues. My pc was ready for the dirt which was absolutely my problem and not at all the fault of the game. Please watch my video as I go through the game with fresh eyes and believe me they are fresh I never did much in it due to the issues I was having. Now I will play a good solid round in game. Enjoy give me feed back, Khos is happy to hear suggestions so please feel free to give them in the discussion area and remember to HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!! PEACE! rtmp://a.rtmp.youtube.com/live2

Game has potential.... after lots of rework. Sand physics are ridiculous, dig sites are covered back up faster than I can dig. No clear instructions as to what to do. Have to return to main menu just to find out what keys to press. Frame rate is atrociously low, should be a seizure warning. Almost considered not requesting a refund, developer clearly needs cash.

A joke in need of some serious technical work, ArchaeologyX is barely playable on a system which exceeds the purported recommended requirements. Digging any sand or dirt causes massive amounts of lag to the point the game will freeze for seconds at a time until you quit shovelling for a bit. Both the Egypt and Mexico maps are roughly the same with environmental lag despite Mexico having piles more vegetation and static objects. As for actual gameplay? Who knows, I never did find any artefacts back when I played this on release nor now. There is a notebook you can use as a guide though as well as locals to talk to if you find them. This had the makings of a decent game but it really missed the mark by a country mile. I would strongly suggest avoiding anything released by this developer as he's now got a multi-year track record of small releases which mostly flop...and then he moves on to the next one. I've owned this twice now, refunded it the first time at $5 and later repurchased at $1 - it's not worth $1 lol.

I'm adding a video to show the issues; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbooPzILKPI This game is good for the money. it has it's glitches but as an Indie game it's acceptable The navigation is tricky as there is no active map or in game compass so the big learning curve is learning the maps. it's very challenging but a nice relaxing game to play. If you have concerns the Devs listen to you and have fixed the looking up problem. click ESC and lower left click "low view"

The concept for ArchaeologyX is fantastic - a clue-driven treasure hunt set in the sands of Egypt. The notebook concept is also really, really cool. I love the care that went into it. Good puzzles and hints. But the game's main problem is that due to the limits of the physics and mechanics, it is nearly unplayable. Your PC can fall into the inside of the pyramid, or inside the gate, under the sand, leaving you unable to continue except by random keystrokes. Sometimes you can sleep, sometimes not, leaving you stuck in the dark. Sometimes upon reload, all your digging is undone. This game has real potential, but it is unrealized.

Ok, so the most important thing I will say is that the developer should be commended for introducing another game without a violent primary mechanic. There are few interesting titles that fit that scope and you can be sure AAA studios won't devote assets to such an enterprise for a while. The notebook in the game is exceptional and shows real love for the topic. It is highly entertaining to read and it immerses you in the world. In fact, it incited an immediate passion for my own dig and I set out to start my new career. Unfortunately the game is currently marred by technical issues and design decisions that may turn off the mainstream crowd. It seems a bit early to show the game as the 2018 crowd is much less forgiving than that of previous years(not that forgiving then either). The physics engine and camera engine are both very problematic. The animations are more are clearly an earnest attempt by someone with no prior experience but they need a lot of love if the game is to find a substantial audience. It is incredibly hard to do and I tip my hat to anyone brave enough to try. It has plenty of flaws but I still recommend that you buy it and try it if the topic interests you. Set an alarm and if at the end of 1hr and 55 mins you see true potential, you should keep it and support an artist with bold vision. If not, be kind and leave helpful(POLITE) suggestions for the developer in the forum. If you appreciate the responsiveness of the developer, again...keep the game and support the developer. It is absurdly hard to survive making indie games. 99% of games will not make enough money to support development. If someone is brave and clever and driven, support them. Otherwise we will end up with nothing but annual releases of mainstream series and no indie innovation. So buy it and try it. I can't say if you will like it but I can say it is worth looking into further. NOTE: When you start the game, click on the ? in the menu and then "Tutorial area". The game doesn't provide any guidance unless you do that first.
