A nostalgic fast-paced action platforming classic from the Dreamcast. This was actually the first time I'd gotten round to playing this one, but I heard that playing it as the Dreamcast version was the way to go so I used the SADX to make sure I was given the correct first impression not distorted by a bad port. Now, overall, I had quite a bit of fun with this game. The dialogue was funky and cheesy in that 90s-early 2000s kinda way, the graphics are good enough to display the colourful and rich art direction for this game, the camera throughout the game was absolute dogshit, and the music was outstanding from start to finish (though some tracks took some time to grow on me)... but for more specifics, let me just go a little into each campaign in this game for a little bit: - Sonic's Campaign is really fun and satisfying with its set of boss battles and the pacing of its levels, but for the longest time I have HATED how bad 3D Sonic is with good platforming. 3rd person platforming requires 2 things; an good simulated depth perception and room for accuracy... along with the shit camera, Sonic's speed (as with all 3D sonic games I've played) leaves little room for accuracy which means that you can very easily go flying off the side of a ledge into the abyss below with one false move... or sometimes it'll just happen when the character physics just wants to fuck you over. As I said, this isn't something unique to this Sonic game, but it started here and the terrible camera that can get stuck in assets or outside of the map just makes this 1000000000x worse. - Tails' Campaign plays really well to the point where I think he's one of my favourite characters to play in this game alongside Knuckles, but his Campaign is made weaker by the fact that his Campaign is just a palette-swapped version of Sonic's Campaign for 85-90% of his missions... they don't even save the two times you fly the Tornado for just Tails' Campaign which would've given his Campaign more novelty. - As I said before, Knuckles is one of my two favourite characters to play in this game he never stopped being fun... in fact, I might as well say here that Tails' and Knuckles' movesets are way more adept for the types of platforming this game wants you to do than Sonic himself. This Campaign has the second best song in the game as its theme tune, which is a HUGE plus, but this campaign ends in a really climactic way in order to leave enough plot threads open for later in the game... which is a real shame because it kind of puts a damper on this otherwise amazing campaign. - Gamma's Campaign was easily the most narratively interesting and unique campaign in the game. Following Gamma from inception, through his awakening and rebellion against his programming, to his mission to free the animals kept imprisoned within his kin and in turn freeing his brothers from their lives under Eggman's control was intriguing, emotional and well-written part of the whole game. Gamma's gameplay is rather unique as well, but something I found awkward was that his moveset feels so clunky and awkward when moving around the Egg Carrier... the location you spend the wide majority of your time during this campaign. - Amy Rose's Campaign was definitely fun in its own right, I cannot tell you how long I spent spamming Hammer Jump while I was running around just because it was fun, but her story feels generally small and inconsequential compared to the other campaigns so far. This was also the Campaign where I felt the sting of that fucking camera the worst out of the whole game due to how claustrophobic her levels could be and how the camera was not made for levels like that. The stalker robot chase sequences were also a unique addition to Amy's missions... it was fun at first but became a monotonous annoyance as I got used to it through the duration of this campaign. - ...I'm just gonna preface that I love Big the Cat as a character. A big, mentally challenged goofball living in the jungle running on half a brain cell, it's fun watching him interact with the world... WHAT IS NOT FUN IS EVERY OTHER ASPECT OF HIS CAMPAIGN. HIS MOVEMENT'S SHIT, HIS LEVELS ARE DIFFICULT TO NAVIGATE, HIS GEAR IS UNOPTIMISED, AND HIS ENTIRE CAMPAIGN HINGES ON THIS STUPID NIGH-IMPOSSIBLE FISHING MINIGAME WHICH IS ALMOST ENTIRELY BASED ON LUCK AS TO WHETHER YOU'RE ALLOWED TO COMPLETE IT... OH, AND HIS FINAL BOSS FIGHT IS MECHANICALLY RETARDED (YOU'RE EXPECTED TO THROW YOUR FISHING ROD'S LURE INSIDE A WATER ELEMENTAL THAT'S CONSTANTLY MOVING TOWARDS YOU WITH FISHING MECHANICS THAT WEREN'T ALTERED OR ADAPTED EVEN A LITTLE IN ORDER TO FUNCTION WITHIN THE BOSS FIGHT SO YOU'VE JUST GOTTA BLIND THROUGH INTO THE WATERY BASTARD LIKE A BRAINDEAD CAPTAIN AHAB). But yeah, I like Big the Cat... I don't hold any grudges. - The Super Sonic Campaign is really just a bunch story cutscenes leading into the final boss of the game, but it does its job tying off all the loose ends in the story and ending it with a bang. I mean, by the standards set by other 3D Sonic games since, it's not that unique or extravagant but it's more than enough. It's literally just a 2 Phase Boss Battle where you beat some sense into a giant water kaiju as a Super Saiyan Hedgehog... if you're not into that level of cheese and 90s shonen logic then you probably won't like any Sonic games. Edit: I'd just like to add that for the Chao Garden thing apparently in this game, I had no fuckin' clue how it worked and so left it alone.

This game and Sonic Adventure 2 are great games. Sonic Adventure DX is the Gamecube port of the original on Dreamcast. You will want SADX Mod Manager for these games to improve them. Especially the first game, because the graphics of the overworld were better with the original Dreamcast mod.

I like this game but I guess it's my nostaliga speaking. The music is awesome, and the graphics are OK (if you know how old this game is) but the game design seems a bit rushed: you find yourself wondering where to go and what to do, thankfully they put some floating orbs that just tell you where to go while this could have been done by talking to tails or something. For an originally a Dreamcast game, Sonic Adventure hooked me with a fun gameplay and wonderful cast of characters. The controls can be janky at time, but for what it is, it's great. No wonder this game is well beloved by fans and now including me.

It says i only have 1 hour of playtime bc of a glitch with my mod loader but, The game is really fun and the levels are well designed, The chao garden is fun to just sit around in, and the graphics are really nostalgic, Not to mention all the fun stuff you can do with mods, Speaking of which you probably need to use them so the game actually looks nice and other stuff. Other than that it's amazing

This game is such a hit or miss You'll either hate the jank and the multiple stories Or absolutely love everything this game has to propose -The Sonic campaign is the most enjoyable so far, having a huge replayability especially for the speedrunning -Tails stages while being slower have a fun little twist of making it a race against Sonic, Tails plays differently with his main gimmick being the flight You'll find yourself most of the time taking risks by taking huge leaps above the void and opening new routes you couldn't access as Sonic -Knuckles stages take a break in the pacing by giving you more enclosed levels with the goal given being to find 3 emerald shards The puzzles are pretty enjoyable especially when you see your radar acting and you take a moment to try to pinpoint the estimated location of the shard One the latter levels with the Egg ship presents a puzzling gimmick with giving you the ability to tilt the ship via levers -Amy campaign is by far the weakest of them all The main gimmick here is that you are being chased by a robot through the stages and you need to outrun and reach the end of the stage Could be fun if not for the fact that the robot is really slow and won't catch up to you unless you stop dead in your track Even if it catches you, a simple hammer bonk hit will be enough to stun it for you to get away And also the level design is pretty weak mainly because of how Amy plays She moves slower than Sonic or Tails and the only thing she can do is swing her hammer or jump with it if you get enough speed, wich results in her stages barely having any options other than move straight foward -E-105 (I(m not sure about the name) has a pace similar to Amy with the twist of having a shoot em up type of gameplay There's a certain satisfaction of blowing up constantly everything that gets on your screen You could say that the levels also lack depths wich just results in getting from point A to point B in a straight line wich isn't wrong, but the shoot em up gameplay rather than the non existent cat and mouse chase makes it better for it Also worth mentioning that this campaign tells a touching story aside from the other stories -Big with his fishing gameplay is often seen as the worst part of the game While disliking it is valid, i still think it works better than Amy campaign If you played the campaigns in order, then you'll find yourself with Big before the grand finale The fishing mechanic can be difficult to understand and to tolerate, but if you read guide before hand and practice a bit, you'll find yourself not finding it that bad While fishing may not seem as exhilirating It works to have a nice chilling moment before you go fighting Gods -The last campaign what a way to end the game The fight starting with a cutscene showing the Chaos that has been brought on the city truly earning him the title of God of Destruction Phase 1 starts with you typical boss music and a pretty straight foward goal of rushing to Chaos to damage his brain When phase 2 starts, that's when things get excitings with Open your heart finally kicking in The fight gets way better with the debris flying left and right, Chaos attacking you and the music blasting through the speakers As the fight progresses you'll start to find yourself having a difficult time gaining speed with each attack making the next one more difficult to land After landing the final blow and seeing the final cutscene, the credits roll and you earned yourself a wonderful memory of a wonderful game

I dont actually think this game is very good. It is worth experiencing though if you like sonic at all. Just make sure you heavily mod it to be as close to the dreamcast version as possible.

Pretty good game, if you're considering buying this to play for the first time, do yourself a favor and install SADX mod installer, it'll auto configure the game to support widescreen and revert a lot of the not great changes between the original dreamcast version and this one. Some of the cheat codes in the mod manager are really fun to play around with too, my favorite being the one that disables all voices in the game. That plus a sound mod to replace sound effects with ones from the Genesis games and one to replace the rings make it feel like classic sonic. Sure, we're getting to real sonic of theseus hours with this setup, but I'm having fun with it.
