GUNHEAD Reviews

Gunhead is a fast paced strategic roguelike FPS where you take the role of a pirate mech with a gun for a head, looting derelict spaceships filled with monstrous drones made out of bone and steel. Sequel to the 2d roguelite Cryptark.

Despite the move to 3D and addition of bosses, this is a significant downgrade from cryptark. The first boss I encountered literally crawled into a corner of the arena and scrunched up as if it was terrified of me, and that was also the hardest one because it kept moving it's weak point around so I couldn't shoot it easily, the other ones were basically free. There are less systems to deal with, only 1 item slot for usable items, instead of finding new weapons to replace the ones we use up we can carry as many as we want but have to spend a lot of money to refill them, costing roughly half as much as unlocking a new weapon. The turrets on ships don't require a system to operate, and therefore if there isn't a sentry system then the outside turrets cant be deactivated. Basically the only upgrades from last game were a new dimension of movement and bosses, but the 3D environment only make a difference when moving around outside the ship, and the bosses were lackluster.
