Update! After something that developers call 'engine update', the game stopped working on MacOS. There is no possibility to play previous version, so my money is wasted.
That is what really can be called wargame. No camps/bases, no resources or making new troops, no faster-click-to-win. Small map, some time, terrain, maneuvers and your commander mind. Very refreshing after fantasy/sci-fi games where you need just rush the enemy. There you must be realistic and pragmatic, not dramatically heroic.
Take with -75%. For $1 that's a perfect game!

This game is pretty cool. I held off for awhile before getting it and waited for a sale. I don't know if I'd say it's worth the full asking price, but on sale, it's definitely getting a thumbs up from me.

Turned based of around 20 actual or hypothetical medieval battles. Units are various types of archers, infantry (pikes, swordsmen etc), and cavalry of different types as well as a few leaders. Taking advantage of the strengths of your forces is critical to winning. There are three levels of AI. I haven't tried the most difficult yet. The middle AI is fairly easily beatable, but gives a good fight. There are varying victory/loss conditions. Overall, lots of fun. I think it replicates well the keys to success in these battles. I wish the various types of terrain (particularly elevation) were a little more obvious.

fun little game but can be frustrating when the rng is bad and stuff that should win loses, even on historical mode wich you should turn on 100% of the time. also you cant make custom battles, just the singleplayer campaign. but i will still play a bit more and maybe try some other games in the series

Nice game. Deals with some of the lesser known conflicts involving France. Does play like any other HexWar Game, though.
Recommend on sale.

A fun little game, not overly complex yet requiring some skill in order to win. Well worth playing if you enjoy turn-based hex wargames.

Bare bones medieval strategy game. Drops you into scenarios with predetermined number and types of troops. Some scenarios get pretty large in scale and have you fighting on three fronts at once. Very fun.

This game just doesnt work for me. The developers seemed to string me along for 2 weeks until the refund period expired and then disappear. Steam of course refused to give me a refund. Had the same issue with another of their titles so am removing anything from this developer from my wishlist. A pity - looked like an interesting series.

This is very good turn-based strategy with a nice music, good animations of medieval warriors etc. What is a little worse - the landscape could be better, mainly a view of hills. Secondly, they are only French scenarios yet. HexWar Games should work a little more in a case of graphic aspects of their games but a progress about animations and visual quality of units is after all visible. The sounds (melee combat, yelling, shooting, bombard mortar) could be louder. A fog, vapor, fume and raised dust would be also great. Good work anyway.
