This game is a notable improvement on the previous older editions; aside from the obvious graphics update, you can now see (improved) item descriptions in more places than just your menu screen, the battle menus have been refined somewhat, hidden items now sparkle on the screen, and I think I saw some added lines of new dialogue as well. Also while the new controls take a bit of getting used to, they aren't too bad overall.
The downsides I've seen would be that the menus themselves are still basically the same as the original, and as the script itself is mostly unchanged, I can definitely say the game is a product of its time; there's one or two details of the early plot that annoyed me before and still annoy me now. There's also no support for other languages besides Chinese, which could be a problem for anyone unfamiliar with the language. (I thought about translating it for a hot minute, but I don't understand code enough to find the script, let alone mess around with it.)
Overall, still a good game worth getting!
