Wondefull music that takes you right back to the game. I bought this to support the Developer, who did an excellent job on creating The Long Dark, one of my favorite games !

Music in The Long Dark is really great. Also bought this to support Hinterland Studio. They're doing their best to keep the game updated.

Video game music has evolved dramatically from its plinking, 8-bit origins. The arcade machines and home consoles of the 1980s were limited by those systems’ rudimentary sound chips, but as tech improved and game developers started to build more enveloping worlds, the music grew more elaborate, too. Composers began creating entire scores spanning classical, techno, jazz, and more. Sports titles like FIFA and open-world games like Grand Theft Auto started licensing hit songs, further blurring the lines between the game world and our real one. Today, video game soundtracks can be as evocative and detailed as those in films, offering powerful listening experiences on their own.
This one is very post-apocalyptic.
Very atmospheric.
A great way to show your support to a great developer.

So much atmosphere into these productions. Incredible soundscapes, and the mastering and mixing is amazing. Sascha Dikiciyan also goes under the alias Sonic Mayhem for anyone that would like too hear his other great creations.

I love the music in this game, so I purchased the soundtrack. But it is not showing up anywhere in my library or my in steam music library, nor are the files anywhere on my computer. I can't find it anywhere...but I have proof I purchased it, and I have the base game in my library and play it all the time. How do I download the purchased OST?

Overall Rating: 12/10 (Yeah, the music is that good.)
The Wintermute sountrack is probably the best Modern Classical Fugue I have ever heard.
The original music from the game is also here... also a modern fugue, but a bit less classical music style. Still amazing to hear, with the repeating elements that make it a fugue. And it is the music that owners of the game from the Early Access period of the game grw to enjoy, and understand.
Heard alone, all 4 sections are amazing. Mp3 format allows me to take it with me, and lose myself in the tracks while undergoing some serious medical treatments right now. And even with the dark charcter of the music, it is somehow uplifting to be able to lose myself to the sound and ignore the world around me for a time. And think about what I plan for my survivor when I get home and play the game.
Heard in-game, they are iconic, and add to the immersion and ambience of the experience for me.
Both composers did a fantastic job, the musicians playing are so skilled it is a joy to listen to them play. The editing and quality of the recordings is top-notch.
And buying the OST helps the developers pay for manhours, to fix broken things, add more content in the future, improve current and future content of both the Survival Mode and Story Mode, and to build and expand their small Indie studio, to possibly, hopefully, bring us new games someday.
The game is a love child. The music is a gift of love. Love is a good thing, isn't it? :)

In my opinion, soundtrack is one of the most important part of the game.
Long Dark has a beautiful world, which feels more magnificent with this kind of music.
This soundtrack sounds both sad and hopeful, for example, "There's Something I Have to Say" gives you a bit sad feeling, but "Illuminate" gives you relieving feeling.
While some of the musics are short, they are not any lesser than the longer ones.
Music for The Long Dark volume 1 is worth it's cost. I'd say that if you like the Long Dark itself, you should really buy this one too.
