TL;DR Only buy if you like grinding or you want to 100% your achievements. There are a few tidbits of plot and story, unlike the Labyrinth DLC, but it's buried under a ton of reused assets and repetitive grind. What's included in the DLC: 1. Boring grind - you need to grind your way to reach the DLC area; 2. Tedious grind - "Memory Lanes"; 3. Slog-y grind - "Solloseum Slog"; 4. Two new fighting styles (Martial Methods); 5. A few tidbits of lore and character development; 6. Rare legendary loot... that you're probably not going to get because you need to slog your way to get a recipe only to then need to grind for unique Solloseum Slog materials that aren't even guaranteed to drop after a 4-20 minute battle spree... only to get gear with significant bad effects and meh-ish good effects; 7. A somewhat unique boss for the final battle. The DLC starts off with requiring you to visit all the inns in the world (...and each time you have to go through a generic dungeon corridor and fight a mini-boss) before you can even access the DLC area. The new DLC area offers two types of content: Memory Lanes and the Solliseum Slog. There are six Memory Lanes, each focusing on a specific character. Each Memory Lane is structured the same way: go through a generic dungeon area with some filler characters -> mini-boss or regular monster spam arena battle -> another generic dungeon area with more filler characters -> mini-boss or regular monster spam arena battle -> area-related to the character of the Memory Lane -> final boss battle. After the final boss battle, you get a bit of background or development on the character the Memory Lane is dedicated to (answers some plot holes, I guess). Go through all six Memory Lanes to unlock the boss fight. The boss fight is probably the only part of this equation that actually feels interesting. The Solloseum Slog, on the other hand, is just as the name implies: a slog. Take the Memory Lanes, remove all "story" elements and the areas in-between battles, and slap on a timer. It's basically a time attack arena mode where you go through 3-5 series of battles in a row against either a horde of re-spawning monsters, or one big boss each. And with a time limit to boot. Beat the battles within the allotted time to get some prizes (S-rank also gives new recipes and manuals to upgrade the Martial Arts introduced in this DLC). Repeat 30 times in total, with each battle getting harder (both because the monsters get higher level, and because you either get more battles in a row, or less time to beat them). Some battles have some special gimmick (such as "melee/magic damage-only" or "must attack with a certain element") but that's about it. I only crafted up to 5 of the items I unlocked through the solloseum, because I would need extra grind just to get the ingots needed to craft the recipes I unlocked... and half of the stuff I unlocked turned out to have negative effects that outweighed the positives. The two new Martial Methods in this DLC are the "Wizard's Companion" (the character's spells trigger slow-mo QTEs that can boost the power of the spell or shoot extra elemental attacks) and the "Martha's Method" (Higgledy-related abilities). The former is overpowered and practically mandatory to beat the final Solloseum Slog fights on S-rank. The latter doesn't seem as broken... but in turn, I haven't actually seen a decent use for it either, so I largely ignored it. All in all, this DLC has far more plot than the other paid DLC... but that's not saying much. And all the plot is buried under layers of tedious grind with reused assets all over the place, so it doesn't exactly make you invested in the story. Definitely not worth the 15€ price when the DLC is not on sale.

Well, story bit of this DLC is not bad, it is not up to previous ones but is ok. But Solosseum is a boring bothersome mess... You fight limited variety of enemies on same stage for all 30 levels 3 arenas per lvl. so you fight at same place 90 times. Also, difficulty here comes from bosses hp, dmg and time limit. No new mechanics for enemies, just fat, damaging clones of what you have already fought before...

Definitely worth checking out if you liked the lore and characters, as this dlc does a pretty good job of fleshing them out. It is clear that the devs have grown and used the lessons learned from the base game and first dlc to make many improvements. The gameplay and story is better than ever before and they have used the amazing music of Joe to wonderful affect.

I like it so far! the things i like most is they re-use the theme from the 1st game (Wrath of the White Witch) in this DLC which makes me have nostalgia of the 1st game . Like Golden Grove, Boss Battle, etc. But i do wish that we could see some character from the 1st game

You get a bit of backstory for some characters and 2 new fighting styles that can offer a brief moment of freshness to the combat. However all of this is buried under repetitive dungeons and enemies that serve no purpose other than padding your playtime as this DLC is mostly just another layer of grind with no actual story. Unless you're really looking for some monotonous post-game grind just avoid this.

Tale of a timeless tome adds some more quests to the game, and adds probably about 5~10 hours of content, not including the soloseum. The storyline of the quests are alright, I suppose around the same level of the main game. The high levels in the DLC do however mean that you will have to grind your way to the level cap (which is now 150), which is a huge chore. If you do not have the lair of the lost lord DLC, I would say that it's not even worth doing, as it will take you many hours. If you do have the lair of the lost lord however, the dungeon will allow for fast enough leveling to be tolerable at least. The soloseum part of this DLC is not very interesting. It just adds a bunch of battles which you will have to fight through, and as its name suggested it really is a slog. Since the materials you need to craft the new weapons are so rare that you have to grind to get them, you will hardly get the ability to use them which is quite a disappointment. I would definitely get this DLC on sale if you do get it.

This, and all Ni No Kuni II DLCs, are giant grindfests that feel unnecessary. There is barely a story to keep you motivated to push on. Truly, the DLCs are only for completionists.
Only get the DLC if you are the type who love to grind-a-lot in puzzling mazes and enjoy ultra-hard challenges.
If you are just playing for the story, feel free to get the main game but I would not advice you to purchase the DLC especially if you are not the grinder-type.
This DLC does answered numbers of curiosity which you may have been asking regarding each of your favorite characters in Ni No Kuni II.
However, if you are not a grinder but just curious and want to know about the stories from the DLC, then I would recommend you to just seek for the play-through video from the streamers. I had try my very best to go for the DLC too after I finished the main stories but I just can't. The extreme-grinding is really not good for my health. Thanks for the game 🙏 p/s: I gave it a plus because I know myself that I am personally not an extreme-grinder but objectively speaking, for those who enjoy extreme-challenging dungeons, this may be your cup of tea.

8.5/10 Recommended Warning Minor Spoilers The Tale of a Timeless Tome is a new story dlc for Ni no Kuni II that gives new story to the main plot line but mostly fills in the plot blanks left in by the main story, after fully completing the dlc ill give some Pro's and Con's. Pro's: - A new story to undertake involving the Nightmares that have invaded the memories and dreams of the people and it's up to you to stop them, bit cliche but there you go. - Unanswered story plot lines left blank in the main games story are now answered in this dlc such as, Roland's son, Ferdinand's abilities, and where tainted monsters come from to just name a few. - New weapons and armor with new legendary class weapons and armor as well. - Dlc is intertwined with the main game "basically it starts early and progresses as you go through the main game and ends after you beat the main game so it's still end game dlc". - New high level Colosseum added to the game called the Solosseum Slog. - Two new ways to play the combat in the game called Martial Methods, one being able to use spells like in the original Ni no Kuni game, and the other focusing on using the Higgledies in a unique summoner type of class. - Level cap raised over 135+ "level 135 is the level of the final story boss of this dlc" Con's: - No voice acting whatsoever which is odd considering it's a story dlc, regardless all dialogue must be read. - Many reused assets, while there are new assets the majority of the dlc reuses assets, dungeon's, forests's, monsters etc from the main game. - Leveling up past 100+ is overly grindy, "even with double in game exp boosts it still took quite a while to reach level 135". - No new outfits to be had here at least none that i was able to find. - Still no new game+ -.-, didn't add this to the overall score just saying lol. Overall the dlc is a fun and exciting experience with new story, answered questions about the main game and new game mechanics giving the game some much needed replay value, and if your a fan of the game and want more then this is the dlc for you, it's definitely worth the 15 dollars.

The bad news is they took the same lazy shortcuts as all the DLC thus far. There's no new voice acting, a few new enemy models, one new dungeon tileset, and the entirety of the content is spent slogging through the exact same dungeons you've been slogging through the whole game. I say "slog" because there's a new grind that literally calls itself a "slog". It's as if they're rubbing it in your face how the post-launch content for this beautiful core game has been nothing but recycled missions and textures. You actually have to do 6(!) fetch quests to even being the DLC proper. The good news is there's a much more pronounced emphasis on story and the lore of the game in general, so if you're into that, you'll find something to like here. You go down various "memory lanes" that flesh out half a dozen characters a little bit, and it's far more satisfying than the previous DLC in that regard. (It also takes the time to fill a few plot holes here and there in the process.) Verdict: this is the best NNK2 DLC yet, but that's not saying much.
