Super fun experience all around. Feels very "strategy-lite;" simple in the right ways but engaging at the same time. The art design is sweet and the gameplay loop is surpsingly very replayable as well due to well-done procedural generation. Would definitely recommend.

It's a fun game that makes you think a bit and try different strategys to defeat the different enemies you encounter. I would totally recommend this to every one who likes strategy and/or tower defense games. :)

tl;dr: Excellent game. Interesting and challenging. Buy it.
The good: Interesting gameplay. Easy to get, harder to master.
The bad: I would have loved for the game to allow changing the team leaders laodouts as they were joining your band, rather than being "imposed" by the game. I kind of get that this is to add some "complexity" into the mix, but it would have been interesting to, at least, add an option to allow selecting their loadouts as they joined. This would have opened the doors for interesting runs, like "all archers" or "all lancers".

could have been a mobile game but sure its fun, unjustified 15 bucks game, but for 2 bucks now worth it

Very enjoyable game, and has it's charm. With a bit of tinkering, you can even create your own "sandbox" kind of game. The art is absolutely incredible for it's genre and it's a very smooth game and beginner friendly. 11/10

In a world of games that have hyper realistic graphics and want you to micro management all the elements of game mechanics, bad north goes its own way. Don't be fooled by the the minimalistic look of this Indi game as it offers a fun real time strategy with enough variation of skills, enemies and islands to keep you engaged and having fun for a fair while. I really enjoyed that the game is not that linear in so many ways, between what items and upgrades you can get and collect along the way and which different islands you choose to play you can have a totally different experience the next play through. Yes if you keep picking the same items/islands and charters for islands then the replay will be the same but you can choose to challenge yourself and play with less characters, or different types of characters and that’s the beauty of it all. It is up to you how you end up playing this game, it never tries to force you to do what it wants, so you have a fair amount of freedom in how you play each time. Even when you get to replay an island I tried sending different commanders and different tactics and the result was a different experience thanks to different challenges in dealing with those enemies thanks to the skills my team had on the island.
I do see some of the complaints levied at the game but to be honest for me those never diminished my enjoyment throughout. Yes there are a small amount of troop types to pick from and there are also not a huge amount of different enemy types. But that is the beauty of this game, by simplifying things down there is no need to have a plethora of different types available as the ones they have cover all the challenges needed. I also liked that the enemies could be very tactical at times, so you were always having to keep an eye on everything going on, as just because you were winning one fight doesn't mean it is over. It is a really easy game to pick up and play and you will be happy playing it for 10-20 minutes or 1-2 hours in a sitting and it provides enough of a learning curve and difficulty as it goes on to challenge you.
I was a little confused at first with the controls but quickly picked them up. They are fairly simple but work really well, even though I spent a lot of time using the right mouse button which I was not really expecting. Another bonus of the game is that all you need to use is the mouse. That said I do find at times I would think I was selecting one squad to move or do something but I had a different squad selected, but that's more of a user issue not the game.
Some may try to pass this of as a casual game thanks to it's looks or how they have simplified elements of the gameplay down, but that would be a disservice to the devs. There is plenty going on in this game and so much to enjoy. They have created something here that is different from what you normally see and I don't just mean the art style of it all. Once you get over that initial learning curve and settle in the challenges just keep on coming thanks to the varied landscapes and enemies there is much to enjoy in this great little Indi title.
