Good tower defense. Has grasshoppers - nightmare stuff... Looks simple, but easily one of the better TDs available. Each tower also has an ability if you invest in them enough. 8/10!

Its an interesting game, a new concept of tower defense, no violence in the game, unless you're a fanatic insect lover. When I learn that this game was made by a blizzard developer, it had to be great. Best of all it gives an option to backtrack the game from the early wave of insects. Thumbs up.

Strong, simple Tower Defense game. The mechanics are robust enough for interesting gameplay and the style works. The twist of having a build phase during the day and a defense phase during the night is great and I think more games should use it. You get a number of actions to build things and then, during the defense, you can use that number of actions to empower your towers for a short time (this power is limited by number of birds, so you can only have six towers buffed at a time, but the birds return a short cooldown after they are used). A longer campaign with a layer of research improvements, like more egg birds or cheaper toast walls or things like that would easily propel this game into even greater heights. As it is, though, it is well worth the time and effort to 100%. It's tricky enough to be satisfying, but the game gives you powers of convenience like the ability to rewind to previous waves and undo your build choices to adjust for a wave further down the list that you can't get past. Trial and error is a a necessary evil, and this game minimizes its impact. Rather than inflate your playtime by forcing a complete restart of the level, you can simply take one step back to account for the problem. More, if necessary, but it wasn't for me except on the last wave of the last level which had an interesting mechanic. New stuff gets thrown at you throughout the game. There are the simple TD creatures, big slow bulky guys, super fast runners that come in groups, etc. There are some interesting, less common mobs, too; like crabs with apples for shells that gain speed as they take damage, grasshoppers than can leap over your defenses if they're too narrow, or worms that can only be hit when they emerge every so often down the path. The choice to restrict upgrades is one I don't like. The worms drop spice, one or two depending on difficulty, and that's what you use to upgrade towers (up to two times). The upgrades themselves are sometimes lackluster, as well, though the Cheese Knife's additional burn and empowered hit damage are both good. Others were sometimes useful, but situational, like the Watermelon Slingshot's buff to range and attack speed (both first stage) and boost to the empowered projectile (second stage). The Strawberry was in a strange position where it felt a lot stronger at level two, but not much stronger at level one, and here comes a problem--the build mechanic restricts you from upgrading twice in one build phase or building a new tower and upgrading it. This is slightly annoying. I found that sometimes there would be slight bugs, like an inability to select one tower because another one was too close. This often happened with the Rolling Pin, which attaches to the side of a tower, not the top; if it was at a strange angle or another tower was close, then it would sometimes become impossible to empower or upgrade. There were also times where things felt like some luck was in play, but I never found that I needed to be lucky. I could always outplay the luck, which is a good thing for a Tower Defense. All in all, this was a sleeper hit for me. I really enjoyed this game. It was a fun five hours of achievement hunting for a few bucks. There are some extra levels after you complete the game as well, but I haven't gotten to them yet. I enjoyed my time, but I think I've had my fill. I respect the developers for sticking to the game length they did, as it provided the perfect pacing. If you like TD, give it a shot.

Playtime: 94 minutes/9 levels [b]The Good[/b] - Cute theme. - There's nothing really wrong with it. [b]The Bad[/b] - It's kinda basic. - No difficulty levels. - You have to micromanage temporary boosts. [b]Conclusion[/b] Defend The Cake is not a bad game but not something i would recommend. I just stopped playing after 1,5 hour, it simply lacks schwung. [b]5/10[/b]

The game is is cute and fun. Beautiful art. Nice humor, and I like the music. Classic tower defense where you try to manage resources along with the path. I've played a lot of tower defense games and so far, at least, it's kept me engaged.

I have played a lot of tower defense games, and so far this is one of my favorites. The art style is endearing and incredibly cute, I enjoy the challenge of the strategic elements, and score attack mode is hilarious. Also: grasshoppers with jetpacks and snails with rockets! Definitely check out this game.

This is not a game you would expect to be so well designed but it's got some serious chops to its design. Don't let the slightly cheap graphics deter you, (extremely endearing and personable graphics that they are though), this is refined and tasty little tower defense game with some elegant refining of the classic game play elements. The build/attack cycle, the way upgrades work, the way "spells" work; these all have simpler but far better ways of working than classic tower defense. I especially like how you don't have choose between spending money on a "spell" or building a tower, which is a choice that never really worked that well. As well giving you all the time and infomation to make you decisions when building means in the attack phase you can be enitrely focused on when to active the "spells" and it makes a lot of difference when you use or don't use them. So to be clear this a tower defense where you will be entirely engaged the whole time, either because it's the build phase and you have as much time as you like to plan things out, or its the night time "attack phase" where you are trying to frantically best use your spells. (I keep saying spells, but it's temp tower upgrades that function very similiar to the classic spells in tower defense, except these are a lot more ingenius in how they work) There's some smart as features like full money on a building cancel , and immediately showing you the path of attack that mean you never feel cheated when things go wrong. This is some of the best tower defense I've played

My favorite aspect is the unique mechanic of limited actions. In between rounds, you only have four (later six) eggbirds to build, upgrade, or gain extra resources. While you can undo immediate actions, you cannot sell or move towers later. During a round, your only action is to temporarily power up towers, then wait a few seconds for the recharge. This might sound limited, but especially in later levels, it keeps you busy with quickly deciding when and on which tower to use your power best. The maps are very open, giving you many different options to figure out the best set up by replaying a level. The art style is not for me, personally, but also doesn't turn me off. Overall, the game is all about strategy and planning ahead, which can make it frustrating at first, but more enjoyable on replays. As a fan of strategy and tower defense games, I love it.

I have played tons of TDs. This one took 13 hours. There are some bonus maps left but I cant motivate myself to touch those after the 100% achievements. It's a solid TD. The balance is good which is probably the most important aspect for any TD. It's challenging but never steps into the "is this level even possible?"-realm. I like the undo-wave mechanic which makes it possible to fix your mistakes without having to start it all over. So it's more difficult to gimp yourself completely, and not as rage inducing when you leak a few mobs on the last wave. It's probably not something you want in every TD, but it works well here. Graphics are underwhelming, but the theme and design is consistent and works well. (Rolling pins? No one would ever be able to tell from those graphics!) It's not a super innovating game or anything, but it was fun and challenging all the way through. And what more can one ask for?

This game is anything BUT a piece of ‘cake’! Totally unbalanced and waaayyy too hard! Absolutely no different than most TD games that you will ‘bake’ for just a few hours of gameplay, until you realize you’re not having fun and move-on to much ‘batter’ games! Extremely scarce resources and very limited building space options just add an extra ‘layer’ of boringness and make this game a real ‘muffin’! And the ‘icing’ on top is those terribly annoying sounds the little creatures make non-stop during the game (!) You can find a much better ‘treat’ elsewhere. This one will only leave you with a sour 'taste'!
