After playing Infernal Radiation from the same developer i was curious to see what would come next from Asmodev, and im quite happy with what did. Ultimate summer was not what i expected it to be. After playing the game for a couple of hours i got the same feeling i did when i first played orcs must die. For an early access im impressed somewhat. The weapons all seem quite balanced and have a nice feeling to them. The traps and towers are very funny and the art style is something new and exciting. One of my favourite things is the flavour text for the towers and traps, not gonna lie i did giggle to myself on several occasions. The storyline is also rather special, for some reason i just love the concept of having to protect a washing machine from the armies of heaven and hell etc. One thing i noticed was that some special effects are a bit to over the top. The exploding traps, whenever they were triggered, they really took a toll on my fps. I would also prefer if there was some more explanation as to how to get access to other pages than the inventory.

I did enjoy the game, but I'd enjoy it more, if I wouldn't be bombarded with tons of content every level. First hour of the game was mostly reading stuff and basically being introduced to lots of mechanics, from which some seemed not so necessary to enjoy the game, or even made the game worse is some ways. Playing on the very same map for 8 levels made me quit to be honest - it was way too boring at some point. I think introducing player to new traps/weapons and turrets should be done gradually, with new surroundings and more interesting enemies. Giving thumbs up, since it's early access and I did enjoy it in some weird way, but it certainly needs some serious improvements when it comes to mechanics. Pros: - Games works smoothly and is playable at this stage - Story might me interesting for some (if you like type of humor presented in the game) - Huge variety of towers/traps/weapons - Nice first area of the game - Price for the game Cons: - It is hard to manage towers and traps. I think possibility to add top/down perspective from which you can build everything might be a great solution for that (similar mechanic was introduced in rock of ages and it worked brilliantly!). - Lack of different areas. - Enemies are not really interesting. Also, to level 8 - I haven't found single enemy which gave me some adrenaline rush for killing it. Extra loot from bosses which may reward me with some cosmetics etc. might give more sense to it. Can't wait for some updates for the game - I'll certainly check it out if things mentioned above will be improved :D

It's what you'd expect from Asmodev...a weird and wacky story, solid game-play and soundtrack, memorable characters and a sense of humor that ties it all together! This one has more of a dungeon-crawler feel than the other games, so keep that in mind, but it is totally worth the price of admission.

Want to start this by saying that Ultimate Summer is pretty well polished and except for the massive load time at the start, the games runs really well. The sad part is, there's no real fun factor. Enemies just run in a line and never attack you and the gunplay is just hold down shoot with no reloads. I like the ricochet feature and would love to see a bunch of unique abilities added instead of just increased damage. The base game is solid but there is zero X Factor which would make you want to play it for longer than 5 minutes. I hope there is a bunch of things added during development because the developers have put in so much more effort than most other Steam "developers". If you're someone who's a fan of games where you're basically a one man army fighting off hundreds of enemies and strategizing on what traps are best to use, where to use them, how long should you mine for rocks and wood to get items, etc. Along with trial and error. This is a game that does it pretty well for the price. For $3 you can't go wrong with this game. It has a neat art style in it's cutscenes and in game slight cel shading. Enemies have some neat designs. The game can get addictive and fun. It's fun to just axe and shoot enemies with the guns provided. If you like Tower Defense games, I say pick it up for the price. The only major issue at the moment is some unbalanced difficulty and power ups however this is only in Early Access and considering the full launch is until May, I imagine this game would get much better over time.
