The Hidden Ones expansion doesn't add anything new to the main game, neither screenplay-wise nor gameplay-wise. It feels like a small ripoff of the base game. The story about oppressive Romans has already been told even better in the main game (mostly through the side quests). The story of the origins of the Brotherhood is bleak; it lacks quality in writing, direction, and quest design (another chain of villains to kill). The new map is beautiful as always, but too small and has no unique features to differentiate from the base map. The base game had enough grind to get bored already, so this expansion only bitters the experience from Assassin's Creed Origins as a whole. The Hidden Ones is a fairly small dlc in the scheme of things, I clocked in just over 8 hours on my playthrough of it, this being the Main quests, side quests and full map exploration. Shortness aside though, I really enjoy this dlc for two reasons. Firstly, it further continues to explore the early years of the Hidden Ones. At the end of Origins the Hidden Ones are formed, but aside from a little house in Memphis which only really serves to point you to the challenging boss content in the world, it's pretty useless. You don't even get a proper outfit :( This DLC changes that by speeding time forward 4 years, The Hidden Ones are properly established in a few areas of Egypt, and you venture to the Sinai to help one of your fledgling bureaus. You get to see the Hidden Ones learn how to conduct themselves, what tenants and creeds they will follow, and see them stumble as they determine how the organisation and the world should interact with each other. And because I'm a sucker for the two of them, it does further that Bayak and Aya relationship a little bit more, which I do enjoy. Secondly why I like this dlc, you get a proper assassins bureau in the game! Now sure, it's not as glamorous as the ones in the earlier titles of the game, but I love to see it. Overall, this DLC is worth the full price imo, but Origins goes on sale fairly often, so I'd say wait and buy it as part of the bundle when there's some nice pennies to be saved. Nothing is true, everything is permitted.
