Space Scumbags is a very basic 2D vertical scrolling retro pixel arcade shoot 'em up with a very bland sci-fi space fighter theme. This looks to have been copied from a basic Unity shoot 'em up template/tutorial and reskinned. Gameplay is extremely limited and shallow even for the ancient and obsolete shoot 'em up genre, with very few kinds of upgrades, attacks and so on. There's no progression or point to the game, really, and this is surpassed by free shoot 'em ups, where this is a paid product (thus a bit of a cash grab).
From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.
A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result.
There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. There's no way for gamers to try improve the low quality graphics.
The game only displays in a very narrow pillarboxed aspect ratio. It's possible they developed this using an old CRT they found in a dumpster, or this game has been specifically designed for people gaming on PC's from 1995... either way, this isn't really acceptable in the modern era of PC gaming.
These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
Space Scumbags is relatively cheap at $1 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend.

I'm seeing a lot of negative reviews for this game, and I don't get it. If you liked the old DOS games Galactix or Kiloblaster or you will love this top down 2D space shooter. And you can't beat the price.

Very functional game!
For it's price point, it's fine by me (got it with coupon or sale, can't remember).
It's not easy to progress through the levels.
However, with the help of C.E. lol, I locked the "specials" qty and spam like free.
Clearing the waves like snapping Infinity Gauntlet.
Mapped Shoot and Laser to SPACEBAR and Missile to ALT.
Clear the waves fast enough before they fire any projectiles,
Then you don't need to avoid much and keep your health bar up.
Don't hate me for gaining advantage in SINGLE PLAYER games.
Unlocked all achievements.
Didn't find any bugs.
There are total of 100 levels each in Arcade and Random Mode.
The achievements only require you to clear 80 in each mode.
The boss at 100 is quite surprising.
If you want to grind it out without C.E. be my guest.
Warning; "There's no CONTINUE option". No SAVE, no LOAD.
i.e. Die at level 80 and you'll have to work through the levels to unlock your achievement 100%
