So my initial review was for how it didn't run at all well and crashed repeatedly with a Windows 7 operating system on Dell laptop Intel core I5 machine. It does run very well with a Windows 10 operating system on an Acer Aspire Intel Core I3 machine which I'm sure has a different graphics card as the game has never crashed yet ... so play away and have fun !

Unfortunately I tried this game once where I found I liked the game mechanics and graphics - however after a steam update - it would no longer work and so not useful to me

Unplayable. In macOS the framerate is like 1 every few seconds. I've contacted the devs repeatedly over the past year and they just won't try to fix it. Wish I had got a refund instead of trusting the devs were going to work on it.

Covers some of the battles of the American Revolution. Gameplay is as most HexWars games. Decent array of scenarios. If you are comfortable with HexWars style, recommended.

This is a creditable computer version of the board game, Hold The Line. It is fun to play when I don't have human opponent to play the board game. It takes the 'book keeping' out of the game and is very easy to play. The only drawback is that the AI does not appear to be too creative. It plays each game fairly much the same and requires me to play at the hardest level to make it as competitive as possible. One request; I would like all the scenarios of the board game included in the computer version, and include the French and Indian War Expansion. Overall if you like the board game, I believe you would like this game.

Meh. You get very limited action point resource, so most of your line is just standing doing nothing while 2-3 units take limited actions. Makes game slow, and boring. Not much to recommend.

I have bought this game because I am interested in history and this historical period of the formation of the USA is really significant. Above all, I love animation of units in Hold the Line. Look at the soldiers how slowly and perfect accurately manipulate with their muskets. Nice! What is not good - tha landscape is very simple as ever, sounds should be louder and especially the absence of a smoke (that one after shooting is not enough long visible), fog, steam, raised dust, soft clouds. I recommend to HexWar Games to make these "functionless" things in all games because it is very good for more immersive experience. Somebody has complained about a number of the move per round. But it greatly matches to the organization of military units during a battle in 18th century.

This is a very nice implementation of the board game. However, while most of the original board game rules are followed, there are some changes that affect the tactics in a negative way and as a result are detrimental to the gameplay. Some variations I could refer to is the omission of the terain -1 modifier when infantry units are found within the longer distance range from the enemy or the hits taken when infantry & artilery are stacked etc, as other players have pointed out as well. Moreover, the original board game comes with a set of optional rules that really enhance the gameplay. Part of these optional rules have been also implemented in this digital edition of the game but I would love to have all of the optional rules available. Their entire application in the game could be left upon the user/player. A further step would be the improvement of the AI, which is currently just average. All in all, if a future edition took care of these issues in the order of importance I referred to here, from the disappointing variations in the rules to the desirable additions and expansions, we would talk about a highly recommended game. P.S. The extended tutorial included is very helpful, especially for the player who has not played the original board game before.
