Solar Settlers is a resource management game with mechanics distilled to its simplest form.
Your job is to settle colonists in a set number of turns, while managing resources for moving and keeping them alive. One of the main gimmicks is to maneuver colonists so you efficiently activate planet effects which differ based on the number of colonists present. Not much else to it, unfortunately. Once you played your first game, you would have seen everything and the challenge is to do it even more efficiently on higher difficulty levels.
The card aspect only comes from drawing planet cards which can be used to upgrade planets, but there is no deckbuilding or card play so it's card aspect is quite minimal.
Essentially it's a resource management efficiency puzzle game, that's also easy to pick up, but it struggles a lot with variety. There are new cards/races to unlock, but they don't meaningfully change how you play the game.
To make it worse, unlocking new races is a grind (for some reason) and repetitiveness sets way before even unlocking the first one.
Still, it's a nice game to play between games as it's easy to jump in and out of.
The positive
+ Easy to learn & quick to play
+ Solid, albeit, simple mechanics
The neutral
* Frustratingly slow race unlocks.
The negative
- Low variety leading to repetitiveness quickly.

Resource management efficiency puzzle game with a minimal card aspect. Gets repetitive quickly, but fun to play for a while while the novelty lasts. Recommended if you are not looking for a long game and deep strategy.
