I'm going to be simple on this one. I bought the game when i was still in school. It was recomended in gaming magazine. I tried it and I was pleased with mechanics since game sorta explains how game goes it just expects you to discover things on your own. Like no handholding at all. You really need to understand how budgeting your army and positioning is king. I got almost to the end at that time realized I wasted too much resources and couldnt finish it. So after all these years finally finished it on normal difficulty. I must say it was satisfying I might try hard difficulty. Pros: > It looks decent. Has it 2000s simple 3d look. Saturated colours that allows good distinction between forces. >Runs good on modern hardware. Although it needed a reload when I alt tabbed. > Decent story. Ok dont expect like modern masterpiece. It takes a lot storyvise from LOTR. It allows to see the war from 3 sides. > Has some interesting unit choices. It differs from similar turn based strategy games. > Because of how fast (number of turns) you finish the mission you always question maybe I should sacrifice a unit so I can finish mision faster but maybe I need expierience units more than gold. > Before every mision you get like a drone shot on how game expects you to on your army. Cons: > It has some weird resolutions on options menu and after some tries it finally looked decent and not streched on my Old LG Lcd screen. > It has RNG that might not be everyones cup of tee. So you see that you deal 3 damage to opponent he deals 2 to you. theres posibility that you only deal 2 damage to you he deals 3 to you. And after 3 turns you understand that was the thing why you should reload save. > Tutorial is bare bones it covers like 30% of what you need to know. For some it might end the game right there when you dont understand in mission what just happened on the field. > AI for enemy units are decent. But sometimes it feels too scripted since some units are just siting not doing anything but since line of sight works for other units then they should also act, but I understand that if it did that then player wouldnt have any chance to win. > Animations in cutscenes are still but remember it is turn based game in 2009 > Final cutscene ends little abruptly. But since theres is a sequel I guess it isnt a big issue. Score: 8.5/ 10 for me.° Minor Spoiler alert from here and also some advice. Scouts are one of the best units. Dont get fooled on low stats. Segment movement is very useful but you dont need it on every unit. You need to conserve your money and troops. I let so many of unneeded troops go so to get some extra money that in later missions when I started missions I realized that theres no way I can win with no expierienced troops - I needed to redo most of the campaign. Good damage dealing units have impetuous and sometimes you will wish that they didnt have it. You can forget to give artifacts to units and start mission and issue them on before positioning. After that its for $ and usable artifacts doesnt work a second time if previous unit died and you gave it to other unit. Some of the best artifacts are found on sidequests maybe you dont needed that silver or gold misson trophy. Hint for withstanding last boss his attacks very good at heavy ground troops at max level. Since he specializes for dealing good damage to heroes and has resistance to cavalry. + air support.
