This game is quite beautiful, and feels like a great start; it really doesn't feel like a full game. I felt as though just when the game was getting good, it ended. I was left a bit saddened, and rather confused. Over all, I would rate it an 8/10 great graphics, nice soundscape. Please expand this game!

Holy Moly, I feel ripped off. I don't even know how to start, I thought it would be a game with some magical or ancient journey due to the trailer, but nono. Nephise Begins doesn't have a hint of an acenstral journey or something like that (I'm trying to guess what the game was about tbh). Nephise Begins is a short game (30-60 minutes) in which you have to collect some skulls (4) and mushrooms and voila. It sounds simple, because it is. The main problem I found was the sensitivity of the camera, my head was knocked out, I ended up dizzy even when I decreased the sensitivity. Oh! and NO -Listen well- don't play after having eaten something (especially something with dairy, in my case it was yoghurt🥛) because I started to get dizzy and ended up wanting to throw up. Definitely not good for digestion, I warn you my friend. Just for that, my belly and I give them -1 point. I don't recommend the game, you better go and spend your money on something else (even if it's on discount) but if you are looking for some easy achievements or badges, go ahead, it'll suit you. But it won't be worth your time Note: I saw that the game has a series, about 3 games or something like that, well if you liked the others you might like this one (Even when the plot doesn't bring you something new). Oh! I almost forgot, the game doesn'tt have to save you'll have to finish it in one play.

This game is even worse than the original in almost all aspects. Even though the setting is completely different, the graphics are quite bad this time, with a very unnatural lighting and frequently glitched textures. The story is almost inexistent and really basic and horrible, the narrating voice is still very unpleasant and walking in this game is unbelievably slow. Also the music is worse than in the original and extremely repetitive, apart from the ending where it gets slightly better, although the entire ending sequence is probably the most appalling and embarassing I have ever seen in a videogame. Only good for the achievements...

A waste of time for me. relaxing maybe, in very meditative way... but sitting in a room staring at a wall can be relaxing too, antd i can have that for free. I really injoy walking simulators if they are done properly. but this one doesn't have a proper story, which is usually the interesting part. Instead it has what a lot of walking simulators are missing: primitive gaming elements. the problem is that they are boring and just stop you from progressing without reason or explanation. Walk through a level that has barely any landmarks and find random stuff because a voice tells you to. then step on 5 platforms. but to be fair: it looks good most of the time, apart from a few glitches. It feels like the job application of a level designer: "look, i can handle UE4, even managed to get a few gaming elements and a gui in there!" thats fine, but nothing I would pay any money for again.

Another very short casual walking simulator that is a prequel to the game called “Nephise”, featuring colorful autumn valley, collecting skulls for a puzzle to solve, mushrooms picking, and yet another funny parody at a bossfight. This game is almost a copy of the first Nephise, except it feels richer in content and overall is looking better. Good entertainment for an hour or two, and at a favorable price.
A little bit of exploration with some fantasy. Pace is rather slow but also it doesn't take much time to complete. Gameplay wise might feel somewhat unfinished. Overall not bad option for round of walking sim with some unusual story.
Nephise Begins is the prequel to Nephise, and a small, encapsulated vision of Nephise's journey to become an Orb Hunter. As far as Tonguc Bodur's catalog goes, this one was probably my least favorite, and yet it still carries a lot of appeal as its own entity.
Story
As mentioned above, this is the prequel to the game Nephise, and in Nephise Begins, we get to see how she becomes an Orb Hunter. While the significance of such is still left a mystery, it is a satisfying explanation as to how she found her way to the events of Nephise and why she has issues with excess (or addiction, if you will). She starts out as a mushroom hunter, but as she starts to find the skulls of the dead, she is drawn into an adventure to find the origins of said doom. 7 out of 10
Gameplay
As with Nephise, Nephise Begins is set in a small and encapsulated, circular area that she will explore to find mushrooms and animal skulls, which are also the impetus for her finding the path to becoming an Orb Hunter. This is exactly the same style of gameplay as Nephise and similar to other of Tonguc's entries. As such, you can expect a seamless experience with no bugs or glitching. There is one primary puzzle much as with its predecessor, and this is easily solved, yet clever in its design and application. All in all, solid effort here. 9.5 out of 10
Graphics
The graphics in Nephise Begins is where I really see an actual decline from previous entries. Running with the same specs on each game, Nephise Begins was far less distinct and crisp as previous entries. The colors were a bit more blurred, and everything had a less vibrant feel about them (outside of the skulls and mushrooms which really popped in contrast to everything else). I don't know if this was a conscious decision so as to emphasize the mushrooms and skulls, but it just wasn't as effective in my estimation as it could have been. Some of the other stuff, like the guardian fox and the harpy were quite nice looking, and the temple was really cool. So, it is still a visually pleasing game. Just not at the level I expected it to be. 8 out of 10
Audio
The audio tracks in Nephise Begins aren't too different than in Nephise itself. The old lady narrator was the same and the orchestration was at least similar. Everything was as such both effective and pleasing. 9 out of 10
Verdict
It might seem I'm a bit down on Nephise Begins but I'm really not. It's still a definite cool experience. I just wasn't AS pleased with it as with past efforts by Tonguc. This game still rates highly though. 8.4 out of 10. Must play experience for walking simulator fans. 'Nephise Begins' is a very relaxing walking simulator that you can finish playing in about one hour. Your goal is to collect items, scattered in a forest and solve two little puzzles. Some might say that's insufficient for a game, but please consider that the game is very cheap. Although I am not a big fan of walking simulators I enjoy the Nephise games very much. Pros: - nice graphics - good music - great atmosphere - mystical - good narrator - somehow makes you feel really good - a giant fox - very relaxing - easy achievements - cheap Cons: - short - you can only collect one of the three steam collector cards in one hour

Another day, another asset flip. That seems to be my life lately. Today's installment is another Tonguc Bodur gem, Nephise Begins. This prequel to the complete non-entity that is Nephise is basically the same game with a few slight improvements. You play as a young but fragile girl named Nephise who can jump off of sheer cliffs stories high and needs exactly ten mushrooms. While mushroom hunting, she finds some skulls and uses them to persuade a fox to let her enter a cave, where she learns that she'd rather be an orb collector. Things you do in this game include: walking into a house, pick up mushrooms, pick up animal skulls for no stated reason, turn vases around, kill a harpy through your leprous touch, walk through a cave, wake up a fox, and collect one orb. That's it. So that's not much to do in a game. The pros of this game are that you move at a relatively normal speed (which you don't in the first game), you don't have to do any puzzles that lie to you (which, again, the dev had trouble with last time), there are a couple of fun-ish missable achievements, and the stock music was better this time. The cons are that everything in this game is stock except the narration, which merely leaves no impression at all on you. I was meditating on these games a bit, and it occurred to me that one of my main complaints with the series is that the storytelling (and "progression") is all delivered via narration. A piece of advice for Mr. Bodur: show, don't tell. Particularly in video games, one of the most interesting ways to deliver information is organically, through in-game experiences. On the other hand, these games suck all the fun out of the point of being a game by telling you exactly what to do in words and not giving you really any information that YOU can glean from the audio and visuals. One of the reasons this sucks so much is that this tell-don't-show method ruins even the slightest amount of immersion you might otherwise have had, since Nephise the character, dwelling in a world with no narrator, would have no reason to solve the game's two puzzles or do anything besides collect mushrooms and go home. A side note: despite what the Store page says, there's no fog in this game. It doesn't really matter, but it is a lie. One of the most damning criticisms a game can get is the ratio of playtime to achievements unlocked. Take me, for instance. I have no need to play this game ever again, and I got 100% of the achievements in about 40 minutes. And that was with a lot of dicking around, like futilely trying to find a lose state or climb the ladder in the game. If that doesn't tell you that this game isn't worth your money, I don't know what will. Yes, the Unreal engine is pretty. The stock assets used here are pretty. The lighting effects are pretty. The stock music is soothing. But there's nothing of value here. Play a game where someone made original textures or music in the Unreal engine. Play a game where someone implemented controls outside of the most basic FPE settings. Play a game where something happens, or you do something that sounds like it might matter. Do people even make games like that anymore? What have we done?

[th]MY RATING:[/th] [th] ✔ ✔ ✔ ✘ ✘ ✘ ✘ ✘ ✘ ✘ [/th] [th]3 / 10[/th]

I'm sorry but no, not either. If you have already played Nephise, you will quickly get to know your way around because, except for a few changes, the games are similar in terms of both structure and location. With the big difference that this is even worse than Nephise. In this game, Location is a forest again, but with more sun and fog and no snow like in Nephise. There are a few more rocky hills here. Lots more rocky hills to climb. Basically, the atmosphere conveyed in the forest is well implemented and, as in every Tonguç Bodur game, there are always “eye-catchers” that convey a great atmosphere, but I think that that is simply not enough. Even if the games are really cheap and distract you for a few minutes with a walk in the woods, that's just not enough. Not to say it was nice... The area isn't really that big, but since it's set in a mountainous forest area, there are lots of paths leading up. For this reason you can hop again instead of running faster. The fact of hopping and the mountain paths turned the game from a walking simulator to a hopping simulator within a very short time. In the end, I more or less just hopped through the entire game. Well, admittedly, the constant jumping is certainly a “bad habit” that comes from other games, but still... In the game there are optional mushrooms to collect that are necessary for an achievement. There are also 4 skulls added for “story progression”. In principle, these collecting tasks also ensure that you will see almost everything in the area. You have to place the collected skulls on 2 tall amphoras and when you turn them the right way up, a secret path opens again, which is guarded by a fox until then, which then gets up and goes away... However, this is not a real challenge. Well, it's not like the fox is running. Although he makes strange movements in the air, he sets off more like a reindeer and floats away. I don't know if this is some kind of bug and if it was just me, or if it's supposed to be something mystical. I definitely found it more than just strange and I also think the animal is just way too big in relation to everything else. But well, maybe the “mystical” comes into play. No idea. Even though there are a few places in the game that are definitely worth seeing and worth a screenshot, if you look closer and in some places you will notice that there are a lot of graphical errors, muddy textures and a lot of reloading. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3118433917 I think it's a bit of a shame somewhere because the surroundings simply make up the whole thing here. But unfortunately it is often the case with Tonguç Bodur games that the quality fluctuates greatly. Same here. The “story” is told again by a narrator. As always, very taciturn and basically only speaks up when you have to do or see something. I'm keeping quiet about the ending because it's just as terrible as the ending of Nephise, but it tops the whole thing. The creature that appears is truly ugly and grotesque. But not because of the creature itself, but because it's just poorly made and doesn't look good. The end is like standing in front of the ice cream parlor window all day and when you're finally let in, all you get is a walnut. Disappointing. I wouldn't necessarily call the game a complete failure because the price (especially on sale) is quite reasonable. If you take into account the fact that the game and the achievements are included in the statistics and there are trading cards, then you can definitely take a look at the game. Visually, the game is quite attractive, but if you want a good story, puzzle challenges or more discovery, you can really save yourself the trouble of playing.
