I think that there are very few franchises that have woven themselves so much into heart like Yomawari. Truly, the games are not as groundbraking, rich or horrifying as others. But because Yomawari always has this soothing atmosphere, bizarre charme and disturbing implications, it is still a masterpiece. The lonely towns, filled only with the protagonist´s footsteps, the nightly sounds of nature and the echoes of bygone spirits have this melancholic air around them. It is almost nostalgic in nature, similar to that of Cry of Fear. It´s almost relaxing to walk around in them, despite the imminent danger. The stories are mostly comprised of quiet, minimalist dialogue that heavily relies on visual and metaphysical aid and leaves some room for interpretation. Yet they never feel preachy of pretensious. They have a purpose. The monsters of the series are fascinating. Most often, they are mixture of uncanny, compared to the rest of the adorable artstyle, kind of endearing and a well-developed vision of classic Japanese myths and legends. As such, the players, specifically those acquainted with these myths, are intrigued and horrified by the beings all the same. I don`t know if this essay throughly explains my fascination for the games, but I hope that you enjoyed regarding it, dear reader. Perhaps it even peaked your interest. Either way, I will adore this franchise to the high heavens.
