Redacted: This expansion features a gameplay mechanic that is worthy to revolutionize the entire RTS genre. Easily the best expansion GSC has ever released for entire Cossacks franchise. No it isn't. I bought this expansion, and played a random game in the hopes of seeing this feature in the campaigns as well. Apparently, the features do not reflect into campaigns, AT ALL. If you are a SP player like me, you are screwed. You paid money for this thing, and you didn't even get half the value for it, because let's face it, we play campaigns more than half the time. Don't you see how absurdly OUTRAGEOUS this is? GSC had the brilliant idea (/s) of developing this DLC and then not even enabling them for your campaigns if you bought it. I don't know which one to call this to be honest, either developer laziness, craziness or some stuff like that. But with one word I can define this: it's mind boggling STUPIDITY. I'm not reverting this to a positive vote unless you play it fair against the SP players, GSC.

There's a campaign and assorted goodies, but I'll just focus on the new nation, who's making their first ever appearance in the Cossacks franchise:
~~Scotland~~
Like Ukraine, Scotland has an entirely unique playstyle unlike any other nation. Scotland can't advance to the 18th century, though they get the same extra-expensive balloon to reveal the map in the 17th century as Ukraine. Their cavalry is mediocre and their artillery and navy are standard, but their infantry is where they shine. Scottish infantry is divided into two branches: Covenanters (the name for followers of the de-facto government of Scotland during the English Civil War) and Highlanders. Covenanters train at the standard barracks you know from every other faction, and they come in pikemen and musketeer form. The Covenanter musketeer is pretty standard, but the pikeman trades the armor on most other European pikemen for a faster attack rate, making them worse at tanking enemy fire but better in melee. Not having armor does hurt, especially in the late game when you can expect to face lots of strong musket-armed troops, but they're still a good unit, and their hats are great, so they get a pass in my book. Besides, you don't get any 18th century units, so get used to them being the fashionable backbone of your armies. Highlanders are trained at a special Castle building, and they're by far Scotland's best units. They come in swordsmen and archer variants. Swordsmen are beefy, fast-moving infantry that will chop through just about anything. Fully upgraded these guys allow Scotland to keep up with other nations' 18th century Musketeers. Even Spanish and Swiss pikemen are no match for these kilt-totting lads! Archers are long-range infantry with a strong attack that can also hurt buildings. Both of these units are more expensive and slower to train than Covenanters, but the fact that they train from a separate building means that you can pump out both Highlanders and Covenanters without a problem. Scotland is best played as an aggressive faction that starts attacking early on, but they can still hold their own if the game goes late. The bulk of your armies will initially be made up of Covenanters, but as the game goes on you'll add more and more Highlanders to bolster your Covenanter forces. You'll never field as fast or powerful a rush as Turkey or Algeria (especially Algeria), but you scale into the late game better than they do (especially, again, Algeria). Just beware of getting into prolonged shootouts; Scotland isn't helpless at range, but it isn't their forte, and you'll never outshoot an 18th century musket army. Instead, you should be running at your enemy with sword or pike in hand in a good old-fashioned Highland charge! Get into melee fast so you can minimize the time your poorly armored troops are taking fire. Your Highlanders are good enough to be competitive with most nations' 18th century Musketeers (yes, the unit that dominates the late game), so don't be afraid to take engagements with them. And whatever happens, make sure you're using both Covenanters and Highlanders together; Highlanders don't train quickly enough to replace Covenanters as the bulk of your armies. Remember that many times in their history the Scots' internal divisions left them weak and divided when a crisis overtook them. Don't fall into the same trap. Overall, Scotland is a very fun nation to play as, and they offer an experience unlike any other nation. They've swiftly become one of my favorite nations in the game. If future nations added have this much thought and care put into them, then the future of Cossacks 3 is bright indeed. The nation is quite uniqe to the rest of the nation. Its a early game nation like prussia and algerie, but with more firepower. The buildings looks greate and the units have good and detailed models. This nation also houses a new military building which is the castle. Here you can produce units like the highlander wich is a longswordsman with a kilt, and a archer. I have not played allot with these units, but at the moment i feel like they are better as cannon fodder so that the muskets can get some free shots. All in all i reccomend this if you either want to support the developers or want a new and exiting nation.

Hello! I dont know about the Deluxe edition stuff, people complain about, but as a new-comer, I would say that this expansion and everything that you have done from cossacks 1 till now is in the right direction! Here are some suggestions, which will make the game really competative and increase its player database rapidly! *** Every nation should have 4-5 unique units at least (like Poland, Russia, France etc.), because some (Like England,Venice, etc) have only one or two. Just tweek the stats around and make new skins, would be great! And ships! More warships please! Not only the upgrades of frigates and Victoria from Cossacks 1, but some really unique ones for certain nations. Naval battles are amazing! *** The option to disable the Market is great (because it removes the cheating ways to rush 18th century baracks, etc ). *** Maybe add some sort of Generals (famous for each nation) , like 1 or 2 tops per country in some future expansion, which will add even more diversity to the current game, with bonus auras, (more melee/ranged damage, armor, regen, etc, small ammounts!) That, or just choose some general when you evolve to 18 century (from 3 choices) and then had some 3 more paths to develop him or whatevs. would be nice! If you follow these three simple steps, game will be glorious! Anyway, nice work! Advertise this stuff hard, because it is really good and would be great if it lasts for years and not months. Now is the time, fellas. P.S. I personally disliked the assistant and I think it should be not turned on by default, because it may be confusing, as many people today asked me what is going on with their units and all, and I had to explain them several times. Make it activatable, but not default. Thank you. The Khan.

This is third released DLC for Cossacks 3 and from my understanding it was not originally planned or something, so this is why it is not included in Deluxe edition. But anyway, it adds a new Scottish campaign and since the DLC campaigns of Cossacks 3 lack balance issues which present in original campaigns of the game, this DLC is a must, of course. Scotland also has very unique gameplay, which must be noted.

The Scottish expansion: I think the normal price of 7,99 Euros is pretty steep for what it offers, but getting it this summer sale was a great choice. The campaign itself is pretty fun, I thoroughly enjoyed playing through the jacobite uprising and it's great to crush the english and french with hundreds of highlanders. As to the country in games: It's enjoyable. I think the castle building as an extra building to produce fast, cheap but yet oddly powerful units makes them very unique in playstyle. I would mostly compare them to turkey with their lancer cavalry, a mix of pikemen, archers, musketeers. Their multicannon is a nice gimmick but nothing too extraordinary. All in all a refreshing country to play, especially since they're completely new even if you've played the older cossacks games from European War to Back to War.

No more peasant micromanaging!!! Thank you!!!! The addition of the AI assist is an absolute game changer for my friends and I. Allows for a much different game experience that is focused on building your army and troop movements.

THIS IS AWESOME! I bought digital delux, so yeah I didnt get this one for free. (though $8.00 aint much to pay for something like this.) HOWEVER... Scotland is a welcome addition to the game, alot of the little tweaks and new features are worth the cost, but MOST IMPORTANTLY, the introduction of the advisor system, although something new and which I expected to fall flat, is actually way better than I could have ever have imagined. The fact that I have to worry just *that* much less about my economy makes the classic RTS expeirience feel alive and fun again for me. Much less micro-management with the villagers and economy overall leads to a much less stressful time. Something that definatly needs to be further worked on and added in other games of this genre honestly. Of course, it all needs more patching and tweaking, but Ill hand it to the devs, Im enjoying the content.

Reason to buy - to have something different from previous game stereotype - powerful melee infantry that moves fast, multibarrel cannon that shoots volley of 5 projectiles at long range.. The Scots play slightly differently.. would like to see more DLC nations with modified playstyle.
