I loved the Beachhead 2000 and 2002 in childhood. But I've never played DESERT WAR before.
Now I played it. This is just a slightly modified version of Beachhead 2002. It changes the textures and color of BH2002 models. Nothing more. No new weapons, enemies, or AI actions.
I only can accept it as an expansion pack of BH2002, not a normal game.

Go to this folder:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Beachhead Desert War
Find this program inside the folder:
BH Desert War.exe
Right click and go to properties menu.
Select Windows XP Service Pack 3 as a mode at compatibility tab.
Done.
It works at final Windows 10 Home version. No problems.
Well, you may buy this old game for nostalgia purpose. Nothing more nothing less. (low resolution, old graphics etc.)

Same deal as 2002 unfortunately. I can't get this to run under Windows 10, even with compatability settings for XP or 95, but i did get it to work in a Windows XP VM. It's really hard to play being such low res, but its kind of playable. I can recommend if you run VMs or have a classic games VM like i do.

Absolutely horrendous. I remember playing the Beachhead games when they first came out ages ago and loving them. But they are not apparently optimized at all for modern operating systems or platforms. Bought them all on steam hoping I could relive some of those days... well my bad. Here's what happens when I try to play:
Game starts, no menu, no nothing.
Ok then.
Play the game a bit, get bored, want to quit.
Oh wait, no menu I can't.
Press escape, nothing, restarts game. Interesting.
Alt tab out, see the game has initiated about seven instances of programs in my task bar.
I only clicked once initially and it automatically crashed the first time, I waited, nothing in control alt delete.
So I clicked again and that's how the game actually started initially.
Did not click more than once.
Well, tried to close the game via alt control delete, see multiple instances of programs running just in support of the actual game program "3d viewer" and other things.
Try to close the main one, it causes an error, closes, then automatically comes back and restarts the first level.
Try to close that again, repeat, try to close all the other programs runng in support of it, same thing.
I wrestled with this damn thing for over 5 minutes trying to close them fast enough for it not to come back before finally I got them all and Steam still said it was running, did control alt delete again and it was running in processes still.
Stopped that.
I almost had to force-restart my computer just to close the damn game.
TL;DR
Don't buy this game, it's so poorly configured for modern operating systems it's not even funny. No menu, bad resource usage, absolutely atrocious experience to try and just exit the game.

I would love to recommend this but as it is not the game is absolutely broken. It took me forever to close it using Task Manager because the damn game REFUSED to close and I just couldn't get to Task Manager unless the planets aligned at the right moment in which case I was able to do so.
Now it could be my system as this happened with the other Beach Head titles. But I am not so sure that is the case at all. Which is a damn shame because I really wanted to play these games as I remember playing a demo of one of them in the past and really enjoying it.
Oh yeah and when the game actually does play the mouse lags rather terribly. Same case with the other titles. C'mon, one of them I could understand maybe having some issues. But all of them? Not acceptable.

This game is from the same engine as 2002 but plays somewhat differently and seems to start off more exitedly. It gives you a whole new set of levels and an amusing palet swap to saddam husseins iraq regime. Overall It plays similar to 2002, if you had to choose between the two I would say give desert war a try, there is some more varied levels and even some new features not found in 2002. It adds night vision kind of keeping in theme with the whole desert storm aspect of the game.

I bought it for my dad.
I don't know why, but do all parents of the 90s generation love this game so much?
I still remember when my father asked me to play this game for him on TV
My father is 64 years old now, and I play this game for him and he loves it very much
(As a joke) This is a true simulation of my grandfather when he was a young man in World War I

DO NOT BUY!!! HERE IS WHY!!! as of April 2020 the entire beachhead series of games is broken and will not run correctly on modern hardware. the publisher/developers should jump on this quickly and fix it. if not i believe steam should suspend sales of this title and the other beachhead titles until the problem has been resolved. if the problem does not get resolved those who have been shafted by the 2 hour play time rule or 2 week rule in the return policy should get their refund. STEAM you sold me a broken game again. i'm not happy that this keeps happening.
