While I had many amazing experiences in classic SNES RPGs, this one was unfortunately missed in my childhood.
With such high praise and often stated to be a golden classic, I picked this one up hoping to be swept away and brought back to my childhood amazement.
This port did not deliver.
It has not aged well, quality of life improvements were not made, and the only part I found myself enjoying in the first 5 hours of committed gameplay was a wonderful soundtrack. The 'puzzles', secrets, characters, and artwork all fell flat. As stated above I did not have the nostalgia to continue playing. Unless they do a proper remake, I think I will continue to miss what this game was all about.

Played for 5 hours, the game is now corrupted and will not allow me to move the character. Not worth all the trouble the game gives you.

Man what a journey, I had to of fun finishing this masterpiece, even after all this year. The depth of this game is amazing! Will surely recommend you guys to get it! Check out Caleb Simpson guide & walkthrough on YouTube. Couldn't have finished all the content of this game without his video.

OK so 7 hours of gameplay what qualifies me to review this game? Well 7 hrs on steam but I still own a Working Hard Copy and an SNES. I have played this game since a few weeks after it's OG release. (Yeah I'm old lol) It is a turn based top view game with a good story. Now I do lament that Some of the Updates for the Steam Version have cut some content and in jokes from the old game but the steam Version is still Solid from what I have seen. Though playing it on a Mouse n keyboard or a NON SNES controller (PS2 style controller.... BOO HISS!!!) Has been ANNOYING AS BLEEP! I really need to find an SNES controller that works with steam. Ya just Miss something with off brand controllers or mouse and keyboard controls when playing an early 90's console based game.

Chrono Trigger is easily one of the greatest JRPGs ever. Playing older JRPGs, I often enjoy the story but am not particularly fond of the gameplay. This isn't the case for Chrono Trigger, story and gameplay are top notch. Combat is fun and holds up perfectly, zero grinding required and you get plenty of money and items, you'll rarely get lost. Story and characters are fun and charming, the game is beautiful, art from Toriyama is gorgeous, and all this is backed by a killer soundtrack from Yasunori Mitsuda (and Uematsu).
If you're looking for a JRPG with a fun time-travel plot with memorable characters, this is it. And man, just look at the people attached to this game.

Chrono Trigger rules, but this port crashes a lot. There seems to be a chance of it happening every time you move from one area to another. Also they changed some monster names and dialog which is kind of annoying but the main thing is the crashes. Just get a SNES emulator and play it there.

Works good on Steam deck.
This game is from an era when JRPGs weren't the boring copycat games they are today. This game is actually fun and it's hard to stop once you start. It's not overly difficult, it's not too long, and you'll never be bored. It's time to play it if you haven't yet.

Broken, crashes on launch. I was able to play this a few years ago on the same machine I'm on now. What gives? Tried the fixes available online, none of em work.
Classic game, but don't buy it here unless you like your digital purchase getting bricked by an "improvement update"

After having this game on my radar, it was finally time to pull the trigger on this much beloved retro classic. I had not expected this game to be as good as it was and it’s very easy to understand why it is so loved within the gaming community. This is most likely the oldest game I have enjoyed this much, it really was so ahead of its time in so many ways. The story starts very strong and within about 15-20 minutes I was invested in saving the princess and bringing her home, little did I know that was just the beginning of this whirlwind, time-traveling, action-packed adventure. I had no idea how detailed and layered this game was. It has blown my mind to learn that there are 13 unique endings and I loved the ending I had (BEYOND TIME ENDING) which was achieved as a natural playthrough. All of the characters are memorable and so lovable in their own ways. My only complaint was that I could not use them all at the same time! I did find that I got lost a lot towards the end, all too often would I miss an NPC’s slight hint on the next location and would be relentlessly scrolling through guides, especially on the last side missions before taking on the big bad. Thankfully with Google at my side it was not an issue but how people worked out this stuff back in the day I WILL NEVER KNOW.
The biggest enjoyment from this game was the combat. I can honestly say that Chrono Trigger has the best example of turn-based combat in any game I’ve played. This fast-paced, synergy moveset with wonderful little combat animations just gave me life and made it so much fun from beginning to end. It was difficult to keep up with at times but overall it proved a good challenge without making me sweat too much. I really liked how each boss was almost a problem to solve, it wasn’t just a case of hit big thing, make big thing fall, it was how you approached each boss that was important. Hitting those triple synergy moves with that much damage was never tiring and felt that each character brought their own strengths to the group which meant it never got boring.
The game is so full of charm and whimsy with a phenomenal soundtrack and wonderful anime cutscenes. I can honestly say I enjoyed every minute of this game and look forward to returning for some more playthroughs in the future. If you are a fan of a good story and turn based combat, do not sleep on this game like I have for so long. Whilst it hasn’t squeezed its way into my top ten it is most definitely one of the best games I have ever played. I highly recommend this one.
