Chippy & Noppo Reviews

Chippy is good in low places and Noppo is good at jumping. It is an action puzzle where two guys work together to make a toy with a theme! What kind of toys are those two really good friends going to make, and what kind of future are they going to make?

simple silly co-op fun it gets a bit thinky at times and i really wish the undo system was baked into a menu instead of finding a switch half-way across a stage

This game is janky in almost all of its aspects. The platforming just feels off, and that combined with the limited camera positions, it can be annoying. Speaking of which, the camera only has a fixed number of positions, and there were many times where that made it difficult to figure out how certain blocks should be positioned in the model you're tasked with building. With regards to the carrying and positioning of the blocks and pieces, they're unfortunately fiddly. There's a button for picking up (which is the same for dropping) the piece, a button for raising the piece up, and another button for lowering the piece down from the lifted position. It feels unecessarily complicated. Also, if you pick up a piece that's of a certain size or bigger, then that character will move incredibly slowly unless the other character also starts carrying the piece. Also, if you're carrying a piece that's heavy, you can't jump very high until the other character starts helping. With all that said, many of the puzzles will require you to assemble something on a high place OR construct a very tall thing, and considering the awkward carrying controls, it can lead to frustration. Also, expect to have to reposition your character since its pretty common to find your character itself obstructing where the piece needs to be positioned. When it comes to placing your piece, that also has its own headaches. Its very easy to accidently place your piece in the wrong spot, and once a piece is placed, you can't unstick them (unless your playing a level that has a cutter in the right position, but only a few levels have cutters in them). Meaning, you have to hit the undo switch. I really wish that the undo command was just a button though because having to hit a switch just breaks the flow. Regarding the models you're supposed to assemble, all you're given is a picture of the completed model from one angle and a wireframe of the fully assembled model. The problem though is that you're supposed to place certain colored blocks in certain positions, and since the wireframe is just a wireframe, the only colored reference you have is the fully assembled model from one angle. This has led to annoyance with my friend and I trying to figure out where certain pieces need to be placed. And everytime we got less than a 3 star review is because the reference picture and wireframe weren't sufficiently helpful The translation also needs some work. There are several instances where sentences are worded strangely and other instances of where words are just positioned awkwardly. The last major complaint I have is I'm almost positive that the 3rd to last puzzle in the outer space section is broken because my friend and I spent like 90 minutes trying to build that astronaut, but we couldn't figure out how to build it the way we're supposed to. If someone could post video evidence of that puzzle being solved, I'll retract this complaint. Did my friend and I have some fun playing this game? Sure. Was this game probably made by a small team? It sure seems like it was. But overall, there were too many gripes that keep me from wanting to give this a thumbs up.

Difficulty curve all over the place, mechanics repeatedly re-introduced, a couple of absolutely gigantic builds that take gargantuan amounts of time to finish compared to the default the main play mechanics are that one character is one block tall and cant jump as high, so they can squeeze into smaller spaces, and the taller one is both taller and jumps higher but in the stages the platforming is often really simple and tedious/ time consuming, it usually involves one player standing stock still on a switch to let the other walk through some door to collect 1-4 parts that are needed in the main assembly area so the height/jump difference really just revolves into incredible frustration when you both try to grab an object and move it in tandem, the up/down and movement is forced to be synchronized except for constant buggy behavior where you will just get stuck until both players release, or the shorter player releases and regrabs with an up command and you will be moving parts in tandem, very quickly the game evolves from 1-3 block assemblys spraypainted across the room to constant reassembly of smaller 4-7 block assemblies and your movement speed when moving >3 blocks solo is so painstakingly boring genuinely wish the tall one had a much taller jump, and or a hover (for the numerous tall statue builds) and the short one had some kind of traction ability that let them move heavy objects reliably / at their max speed no matter the size of the object, there is a really fun concept in this game that was absolutely not executed on and i think the key would have been more power/uniqueness to the characters, or maybe letting the players boost their stats/give themselves some kind of ability by picking the different outfits and when i say the difficulty curve is all over the place i mean within a world and within the worlds in linear order the first four levels of the last world are literal snooze fests, or really the first set of six on any world, and then the second row will randomly have a 20+ minute build snoozefest to rack your brain
