Some of the games on the platform are sort of fun, but this platform has a lot of issues at the moment and I cannot recommend it

I will inevitably change my review to a positive one in the future. I believe in Facepunch Studios, have logged countless hours in their other titles, and trust their ability to make improvements going forward.
As it stands now, I can't recommend this platform; it's not a finished product. If the game were in Early Access, I would recommend it, but I don't think advertising it as a full release is accurate.
Full disclosure to anyone reading this: I am running Linux, so some of the issues I point out could be related to my use of a less common platform.
1. I should be able to run the platform through Proton and, with some tweaking, have a somewhat seamless experience. Right now, I can run it through Proton, but there are a lot of noticeable bugs. In the sandbox mode, I crashed the game no fewer than three times, and I've broken components just by resizing thrusters and using the basic welding tool.
2. There are a number of games that I just can't play—or, more frustratingly, can only play intermittently. Dark Descent is one example that will CTD without warning.
3. The s&box editor is completely unusable on Linux, which is disappointing. Usually, with enough elbow grease and a dream, I can get most things running on Linux, but this seems to be an exception. I can get the editor up and running, but there are a lot of visual problems with the windows.
For the reasons above, I cannot recommend the game as advertised because I honestly feel it wasn't ready for release. I say this with all the love in the world. I believe in Facepunch, and I believe in the vision the team has for s&box. I can't wait to see it through to fruition, and I'm looking forward to more updates.

i don't really believe s&box as a platform looking at the current situation, but i still believe it has a promising future as a game engine. at the very least it's an open source unity with free hot reload feature.
i hope i didn't invest my 10 bucks, learn c#, and contribute to the github repo for nothing.

This game is definitely no Garry's Mod, but I feel like what it has going on is really good and reminds me of the LittleBigPlanet days. I'm hopeful to see what the devs got cooking up for future updates!

Played for less than 10 minutes, and all I can really say is that S&box is not a "spiritual successor" to gmod.
More like a half-assed attempt at making gmod, but with a priority on slopware.
None of the games are interesting, player customization costs money, locking nearly all cosmetics behind a paywall.
All of the things that made Gmod great are absent in S&Box.
There is no traditional workshop page anymore, and the player models either make you look like a sausage, or overly realistic.
And the optimization... Couldn't have made a more unoptimized game if they even tried.
And the general gameplay is iffy at best. As of writing, most of the games are complete slop, copying games from either roblox or fortnite, with only a few games/gamemodes I could recognize from Gmod.
Game is mostly unpolished and unfinished, and with stuff locked behind a paywall after paying 20 dollars, I do not think it is appropriate to reccomend this to anyone.
0/10, A Complete Disappointment

While great in concept, the game backfired spectacularly.
It's all slop as far as the eye can see. Maybe the situation will get better over time but for now as a player it's dead in the water.
As a dev, it's an amazing opportunity to make something great with these new tools, though.

Garry Gmod doesn't have a marketplace, there is no reason for S&Box to have marketplace with skins ranging from hundreds to thousands of dollars. When you can literally get free cosmetics and models from the Garry's Mod workshop. This isn't Roblox or Rust.

The most popular game is a grass cutting simulator that is identical to a roblox game, and the next runner up behind that has like 8 players.

Dear Garry,
I've spent more than 1,000 hours of my life playing Garry's Mod in single-player. It was a wonderful game, there was something genuinely fun about messing around with its content, exploring Workshop mods, NPC battles, maps, building my own scenarios... That game was my sanctuary.
Then, back in the day, I heard about your new project: S&box. I got excited immediately, a spiritual successor to GMod built on Source 2? I was curious and eager, so I waited patiently.
Now that S&box has finally released, my excitement returned, especially since I'd grown tired of GMod and hadn't touched it in over a year. When I landed on the Steam page and noticed the reviews, I chose to ignore them, which, in hindsight, was a mistake, and paid $20 anyway.
Upon loading the game, I was greeted by a naked sausage man. The menu felt like something out of Roblox, and clothing items were locked behind some kind of system. I still pushed past all of it, because enthusiasm can make you overlook a lot, and I refused to believe something connected to GMod's legacy could disappoint me.
I loaded into gm_construct and quickly realized there was no real single-player option, so I simply set the player limit to 1 and carried on. Once in, I looked around, and then the frame rate dropped. I checked the menu and found very few content, which I was willing to forgive given how early the game is. Then I went looking for weapons, NPCs, props... and that's when it hit me: There simply isn't much to do in single-player, its bad.
This is not a GMod's spiritual successor, I won't accept that label for it, because it doesn't hold up. I genuinely hope you can turn this around, because right now the experience has been deeply disappointing. I cannot recommend this game to anyone looking to recapture what made Garry's Mod special.
