Best 2d sonic In my opinion. A very complete and full package at a cheap price. Cant really fault it. 8/10

Honestly, the best sonic game I've ever played. Been playing sonic since I was 3 years old. I love this game series and this is by far the best most stylized Sonic game. Its oozing personality and it feel like a love letter to this franchise. Good work guys

Game is super cool so far! Almost done with Sonic and Tails story. Only complaint is the special stages. They are waaaaaay to varied in terms of difficulty. I mean, stage 1 and 2 are fine. Then 3 is super hard. 4 is alright. Then 5 is like a whole new difficulty level for the game. Then 6 and 7 are easy. I prefer the older style where the stages get more difficult as you progress. Having it all over the place slows down the experience for me (I like having super sonic in my runs). Plus, since you can't reuse a big ring without resetting your save, it becomes a very tedious process if you haven't practiced much. Apart from that though, this game is awesome! Mirage Saloon is my favorite stage so far! Hope the rest is just as good!

This is game is absolutely incredible, so lets start with the few cons I have.
I think this game being a Forces tie in bogs down the story quite a lot. It leads to the story feeling insanely lackluster, and it not only breaks continuity in some areas (Oil Ocean is on Angel Island now?), but it just kind of sucks. The Phantom Ruby is such a plot device, it literally does whatever the story needs in to, in this game and Forces.
And while this game is insanely polished, and I do mean INSANELY, it's not very inventive. Both with it's levels and gameplay. There weren't a lot of times where I thought "woah I can't believe they did that" from a game play perspective. I mean, sometimes I did. Knuckles first act of Mirage Saloon is incredibly cool. Even in S3K we never got a full act ENTIRELY designed around him, so that was cool. And the dropdash is an incredibly edition, but aside from those 2 things nothing really stands out to me.
Also, while we're on the topic, why is the super peelout not just apart of Sonic's base arsenal? I understand the Insta-Shield, as that conflicts with the drop dash, but the super peelout is one of Sonic's best moves. It's a perfect alternative to the spindash, being much faster but lacking the same amount of protection. There are pros and cons to both, adding an extra layer to the gameplay, which would've been even more interesting with the dropdash. But instead it's only available in no save mode. Very unfortunate.
Nit picks aside, this game is awesome. So incredibly fun to play, there is not a single low point the whole time. If you've liked any Classic Sonic game in the past, it is a must play! I'd have to say my favorite remixed stage is Chemical Plant, already a great stage, made even better with the inventive usage of the bouncy liquids, and alternate passageways with pipes. Been playing this game for many many years and I still feel like I'm finding brand new stuff in that level! But my favorite new one is probably Titanic Monarch. I know that's a strange pick, but the two posses are top notch, the gimmicks are a ton of fun while still being challenging, and the aesthetics are SOOOO good.
The characters control so beautiful. Mighty's stomp, Sonic's dropdash, & Knuckles. It's amazing. The inclusion of Puyo Puyo is lovely, as well as Blue Spheres. Encore mode, while being a bit underwhelming at the time, is a lovely way to shake things up, and gives Mighty/Ray some exclusive content. Plus, the modding community for this game is great. Any issues I've mentioned can no doubt be fixed just by sifting through game Banana for a little bit. And there's still so much I haven't covered, the level design, the special stages, the spritework, the references, the MUSIC. TEE LOPES I LOVE YOU PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE KEEPING WRITING MUSIC FOR SONIC GAMES!!!!!!! It'd take too long to talk about every single aspect of this game that I love, so instead of me writing it, why don't you go see it for yourself?
In conclusion, this game is good as fuck, play it. Justice for my man Dunkey tho, get his sound effect back in this game!

Sonic Mania is a darn good game; a classic after all these years, even. A videogame that was conceived as a celebration to Sonic's early years from the Sega Genesis somehow still carries on it's hyper, colorful, dazzling and jamming aura presented in 2017 to this day. Unfortunately Mania suffers from shortcomings inherent to the roots it lovingly attempted to revitalize: I condemn the restoration of the bad tendencies from the classic Sonic games, such as having a boss at the end of every single Act, the not-rare sections where the player blitzes through portions of the level in heavily automated sequences that don't require any input and exist merely for the sake of spectacle giving the player a fake sense of speed, the lack of multiple buttons in the face of obtaining an elemental shield (the Drop Dash/Insta-Shield is too awesome! It pains that it goes away until you take damage), etc. On top of that, Mania does little to improve the formula left by Sonic 3 & Knuckles, much to it's further detriment. Sadly enough, the mere existence of this game may even be a cruel testimony of how Sonic itself can't seem to move on from it's radiant past.
But regardless, I'd have to be extra high to say Mania isn't good and a 10/10. The flawless recreation of the physics, the brand new remixes and art for the older zones, the aforementioned lively atmosphere full of personality, the dense and diverse level design, the terrific use of multiple playable characters, the passion behind every reference... it negaves any criticism I have, all it takes to push that aside is another replay of this awesome installment that, personally, is so much better than it's predecessors.

I appreciate what Mania has done for the series, but the game itself isn't really that good on its own merit.
It leans far too heavily into revamping older levels instead of creating new ones (and the new ones are hands down the best part of the game), and if you only count the new zones, it's Sonic 4 Episode 3 in terms of length (four zones).
The level/zone transitions are also mostly lazy or nonsensical.
From Green Hill Zone to Chemical Plant Zone they couldn't figure anything out so "Phantom Ruby did it." It's actually worse with Lava Reef Zone and Metallic Madness Zone's transitions though, they just look up and a few seconds later they're magically in the next zone.
From Oil Ocean Zone to Lava Reef Zone, the submarine just barrels through lava without getting destroyed which is pretty ridiculous are we supposed to assume that it's lava-proof because of Hill Top Zone? That wasn't in the game, and Lava Reef Zone 1's boss isn't lava-proof). And from Hydrocity Zone to Mirage Saloon Zone there wasn't even an attempt, you just walk off screen and suddenly are flying a plane.
Special Stages suck, I got better at them over time but they're definitely my least favorite in the series.
I'm also not a fan of the return of Blue Spheres. I went through every stage twice (both achievements failed to trigger the first time) and I'm definitely a better player for it, but it took me over two hours to complete it.

Easily one of the best Sonic games to come out in the 2010's & as far as I'm concerned the ONLY anniversary game to come out in 2017. Mania is one of the 7 mainline Sonic games that I would consider the best in the franchise & its an amazing game to introduce newcomers to as well.
This game is really fun & massive love letter to Sonic fans who grew up playing Sonic 1, CD, 2, & 3K. This game has:
Amazing music thanks to the talent of Tee Lopes.
Fantastic & mostly accurate 2D Sonic gameplay thanks to Christian Whitehead & Simon Thomley.
Very cool artistic direction with the environments & sprite work.
Innovative level design & tons of playable characters who stay true to Sonic's main formula
The only nitpick are that they needed more original levels but the rest of the game is still like a 10/10 in my book.

Its good but i dont care much for it and i have still not beaten it after buying sonic colors, generations and frontiers. But this is a good game if u liek 2d sonic which im not a big fan of. Even my dumb friends that didn't really like sonic that much bought this game and became fans of it so i owe this game that.
