A memorable space RTS. For its time it was beautiful (especially when ships explode in 2 halfs), and with simple yet tactical gameplay. You battle across multiple maps connected by wormholes. But there's little reason to play it today unless you're nostalgic about this particular game. Fortunately, the space RTS games evolved since then. Sins of a Solar Empire is one of the games I would recommend instead. It also aged like fine milk, not so easy to make it work on modern systems.

A great little classic. It's an old 16 bit game, so it won't run perfect everywhere and the graphics are nothing to write home about, but it has a lot of charm, still plays well, looks okay, and I'd honestly call it rather fun. The campaign is good and some of its more distinct mechanics, like the supply line system, are novel even today. For some reason it won't record my playtime though. I think steam believes the game is only running whilst the start-up window is there. For the price, I'd definitely recommend it. It's very solid for its time and has aged pretty well all things considered.

I have very fond memories of playing this game in the late evenings back in early 2000's, it was one of the first games to get me fascinated with spaceships and RTS genre. In terms of gameplay, it is nothing special (by today's standards). You build a base, collect resources, construct spaceships and send them to shoot enemy spaceships. There are 3 factions, each with different strengths and weaknesses as well as a 16-mission campaign and skirmish mode. While graphics and UI design does show its age, the sound design and soundtrack are still amazing. I don't think I'll ever get out of my head the sound of battleship cannons or Terran theme. Worth noting that running this game on modern hardware will most likely require you to download some patches and modifying game files. There is a decent guide in the Community Hub section for the game. And if you're playing in 4k, be prepared for 1/3 of your screen being taken by pixelated HUD. I wish someone would make a remake/remaster of this game.

Finally, my favourite childhood game is on Steam! This one is definitely a rare and well polished gem. I have [strike]wasted[/strike] spent countless hours playing this game and it is definitely worth checking out. It has some interesting concepts that rarely appear in other games, like playing across multiple maps, managing supply lines, special hero-like admirals, that make fleet management much easier. The campaign storyline is somewhat linear, but very enjoyable and a great way to get into the game's lore, which I find is one of the most fun aspects of the game. For a game that is over 15 years old it has certainly aged well and, while perhaps not quite up to today's standards with regards to graphical fidelity it definitely had imensely well polished graphics for when it was released (2001). All that's left to say is that I can definitely recommend this. Buy it, try it and tell other people about it!
