I played CTP1 years ago, and for many, many hours. It was great; it was essentially Civilization (it was even in the name!) with a bunch of mechanics being tweaked. Unfortunately, that game is not on Steam. I'm guessing due to licensing issues.
This game is pretty much a demake or an "un-expansion" of the original CTP. A bunch of features are scrapped...late game is much more like the OG Civ games than they are CTP1 (no 3000 AD late game). You can't actually control what tiles your cities 'work' in the management screen; only tell the AI to concentrate on a certain resource (food, production, etc.). The graphics are pretty much the exact same, but some of the units have changed appearances.
I don't really get why this game was even made. It did nothing to improve on CTP1 but did several things to make it an inferior product.
