This is more of if you miss FFTactics and like games to kick you in the teeth constantly. Your always at a disadvantage. your capture is neat but it takes your turn. if your not careful the mob you take will be dead the same turn you take it. For it's price it's FFtactics lite.

This game is extremely difficult compared to Disgaea, which is much more forgiving. I played this on the android app store before it was removed. I was lucky to find it here. I wanted to pick it up again because I didn't get far. Get this if you're down for intense challenges and prepared to grind.

Here's my review after fully completing this game. This is going to go into more detail than just the plot summary, if you want that go read the description in the Store Page. The story and plot is whatever, you're playing this for the gameplay. More specifically, the strategy part. This game is difficult. But that's not until Challenge Levels 3 and up; the Easy level maps can be cleared comfortably if you apply some basic strategy and actually think before you YOLO all your slimes into the enemy. Normal could take a few tries, but nothing to rip your hair out about. If you still get stuck in a particular map, try clearing another one and expanding your slime collection. The higher Challenge levels though? You WILL learn how AI target priority works. Planning your positioning based on which units move first. Which way your Divide Slime/Goddess's Hands split. And you'll restart over and over again until you find a good combination to clear the map with. Don't want to deal with that? Stick to Easy mode. The 'grind' that is mentioned is either replaying a map for slimes, or to level your slimes up. Considering your slimes' combat abilities are worthless, the leveling is pretty much only until a slime can survive one hit, which doesn't take that long. Slimes also get a one-time boost to their abilities (or movement) at a certain level, but I never had to grind for it as I was completing as many challenges as I could while progressing the story. Grinding for a slime drop could take longer if you want a slime NOW and have bad RNG, but the game gives you certain slimes at 100% chance if you don't own it already in certain maps. Speaking of maps, they're all are varied and well designed. Every map has their own unique challenges. Enemies are placed strategically to give you a hard time. You'll feel like a genius when you think of some way to cheese the map and it works. Some slimes are definitely more used than others, but if you try to use the same strategy you'll be met with a rude awakening. Lastly, there definitely could've been some Quality-of-Life improvements. The 'skip' button doesn't skip animations, only text. You can't re-order your slimes when you start a map, so you have to do it when you first select which slimes to take with you. That being said, restarting is still relatively quick, and you can pause and restart the level during the enemy turn as well. If all that doesn't put you off too much, give this game a go. It's not a game for everyone, but I haven't found anything else quite like it. And what it does, it does great.

Very fun, a few flaws like awkward poorly translated dialogue, but the gameplay saves it.

Own this on three different devices. This is a game that will kick your ass over and over and you will thank it. I love it so much, just gotta be patient and learn from where you go wrong. The pure dopamine of realizing the right strategy for wiping out the pathetic humans with your body snatching slimes is always fantastic.

very disappointed, the game is not balanced to give a fair difficulty to the player. Even easy mode will kick your ass. Enemies are too much powerful and, for reasons, some of them will be difficult to "claim". Also you have very weak slimes, leveling them up is not very helpful, and you get new species randomly. Also in some levels you have a limited number of slimes vs hordes of enemies. And.... seriously, why, for all the reasons in the world, the tutorial explains you how to use a very important slime with the stickyness ability, but when the tutorial ends you don't have that slime anymore and you can't find that anywhere? Why? I think the problems are spawning by some game design choices and balance, but nothing that couldn't be revamped if only the dev cared about fixing the glaring problems the game has. I mean, come on! I played Tactics games for decades now, and after 14 hours I'm still at chapter 2 (as far as I know the game has at least 8 chapters). I loved Vandal hearts, I bought this game because I noticed the same kind of 3D rotating map with 2d sprites. Too bad this game doesn't do nothing to be accessible and engaging. Also, the pixel art for the field sprites are very ugly if compared to the battle ones, a graphics overhaul could help much too. Being a pixel artist and a former game developer, I'd love to give my help for free to improve graphics on this one. It's a shame, bought this as reference to make a new tactics rpg like Vandal Hearts, but here I learned only how to not do things

The first thing you should know about Ambition of the Slimes if you are considering picking it up is that although it is a strategy RPG, the emphasis is much more on the "strategy" than the "RPG". Grinding will only help you so much; far more important is choosing the right slimes and making the right moves. If this sounds too stressful, then you may want to seek out another game (however, please note that there is an Easy difficulty which I didn't touch-- I stuck with Normal, plus replayed some levels on Hard and did a few Challenges-- so YMMV). On the other hand, if a strategy-heavy RPG sounds appealing, then you may like Ambition of the Slimes. The core mechanic is guiding your physically weak slimes over to enemy humans and taking them over. The comical animation for this possession never gets old, and a lot of the fun comes in figuring out the best ways to get the strongest human units on your side. Each type of slime has a special attribute or ability, ranging from teleportation to high defense. Some abilities, like Melt, temporarily weaken its target and makes them easier to possess. As mentioned before, figuring out the right strategy for each stage is extremely important, and although I had to restart many maps multiple times and try out different approaches, I never felt that the game was unfair. The game's story, set in a fantasy world where slimes have suddenly gained this new possession ability and are now on a rampage, is fairly light and entertaining for what it is. The graphics and music have the same sort of fun retro aesthetic featured in other games published by Flyhigh Works, and the controls and UI are well designed and easy to understand, for the most part. My nitpicks are few. The battle art for the humans tends to be samey-- most of them are some variation on either "Skinny Guy" or "Fanservice Gal". Also, there could've been a little more variety in the music, the localization is sometimes clunky, and the ending could've been better. Still, in the end, none of these put much of a damper on my overall enjoyment of this game. Fans of strategy games and/or quirky Japanese indie stuff should find a lot to like here.

I like the concept, but the level design is hot garbage. Once you get a couple chapters in they set you up such that each stage is effectively a puzzle where you're supposed to find the gimmick that the designer used to beat the stage. It's not fun like that.

This is a great RPG game that has a intriguing "capture" mechanic that allows for a large variation of the traditional turn based RPG genre. I will update more as I continue to play, but felt like the game needed some positive reviews for its fun content.
