Did you finish the game and find yourself longing to be creeped out away from your computer? Then, boy howdy, this is the ticket to happiness! There are way more tracks in this OST than I realized were in the game, but it makes sense: The overall feel and ambiance of the game were hugely dependent on the music. Do yourself a favor, and support the developers, by grabbing the OST!

The Detention soundtrack is very atmospheric and well crafted for a great horror game. The soundtrack is unique in how the musicians involved (Weifan Chang, Micky Yang, etc) effectively combined elements of rock, lo-fi, and traditional Asian instrumentals into very artful music tracks. More so, this DLC supports the developers as well as the musicians involved in this game, something I recommend doing for many-- especially games that I hold much love for.
Considering the abundance and variety in track lengths and overall quality of the instrumental and mixing, $6.99 is a very decent price for all of these components. I hope any future work by those involved in RedCandleGames holds similar strengths as their choices in music, design, and story-telling found in Detention.

A very spooky soundtrack for a very spooky game. And thirty-four tracks' worth, at that! Granted, most of them fairly short...
Still great value at seven bucks or less, especially if you're old enough to remember the good ol' days when people actually paid for music! There's even a bit of instrumental art-rockin' at the end to help sweeten the deal.
Verdict: 9/10.

The Detention soundtrack is great dark ambient music that mixes traditional and electronic elements, as described. Included with the 34 tracks is the album artwork (CD cover) and pdf booklet (which you can already view in full in the product description). Each track is pretty unique.
“Unanswered Prayer” was my favourite for a typical dark dreamy creepy atmosphere with traditional instruments. “From One Dream To Another” stood out as a beautiful short track of solo pentatonic piano. Some tracks are very tense and scary, particularly “Haunted by the Past” and “Wangchuan River”. “Confrontation” is basically an annoying stuttering automatic saw. I found “Patriot” (from Schubert) somewhat disappointing since the orchestral synths sound really fake. Too bad the four 8-track pieces were not included, such as the pentatonic piano melody you had to play (the other three were not really “music” I guess).
The final three tracks are excellent and sound a little more hopeful. “Left Alone – Ending Theme 2” grows from solo piano to a driving violin with flowing piano accompaniment (similar to music from “The Village” 2004 film). The bonus track “Sounding of the Gunshot” is the epic guitar and drumset music from the trailer (the one that starts with live action of a student at a desk). Overall this is a really creative soundtrack with a diversity of instruments/ electro techniques (and some voice)… well mastered. It fits the gameplay perfectly but also stands alone as mostly background ambient music and for memories from the game. Kudos to WeiFan Chang and others involved in producing the soundtrack.

The BGM plays a big role in this game, and they are fantastic! Great OST, a good way to support the developers and to keep the creepy songs to yourself.
