001 Game Creator - 3D FPS / Survival Horror Kit DLC

Finally! The long awaited FPS DLC I’ve been excitedly expecting (and after only a few delays, not too bad) I should start by saying, I've been a 001 Game Creator (Engine) enthusiast for over a decade and I’ve often considered it to be possibly the most underrated game making software of all time. There truly is so much you can do with it and it is one of the most user-friendly/drag-and-drop creators I’ve ever used. However, I’ve always wanted something as user-friendly and easy-to-use as 001 in a more three-dimensional environment… Enter the 3D FPS / Survival Horror Kit and my prayers have been answered! And so far I’m impressed with what 001GC is able to do with its new capabilities. I was pleasantly surprised at how smooth it runs and while the gun mechanics are a little clunky they are sufficient and responsive enough to not detract from the gameplay. I had a lot of fun with movement; I love that you can run while crouching (it felt like I had a cheat code on! LOL) and the barrel punching mechanic is an A+++ experience (in fact I think a Barrel Punching Simulator is definitely in order) Oddly enough what I really enjoyed most was the drawer opening and closing function. It works really well and for me, it’s strangely reminiscent of the original Shenmue (when in first person view) in fact I would say the graphics/gameplay is altogether reminiscent of a Dreamcast game in general… which isn’t a bad thing, mind you. In fact, I kinda find it charming and wonderful (and obviously nostalgic) which is exactly what I want and expect from 001 Game Creator, if I’m looking to create some AAA FPS kill frenzy I would use Unity (or smash my head against a wall using UDK) but that’s what I love about this quirky & endearing game maker. All-in-all this is a great addition to 001 and I couldn’t be happier that these nice DLCs are coming out and seeing dedicated developers creating content that is breathing new life into “the little game engine that could”. There’s tons of potential with this one and I can’t wait to see what’s next!
