This game is A LOT creepier then I gave it credit for. A very scary environment, enemies that pop out of nowhere, and a feeling of mounting dread. After three minutes I wanted to stop playing.

The horror part is that another Game Guru masterpiece like this exists on the Steam store.

I love bad horror games, and this is bad, and a horror game, for sure. Honestly, I kind of enjoyed it. Recommended only for those who specifically like bad horror games.

Welcome to, yet, another cash-grab indie horror game.
The Spirit Underneath, not only starts the game with the company's logo with errors in it, starts with the game title not even complete on the main menu. The menu's background is also just a screenshot of the game because you can see the hud!
The game was made in Game-Guru and only uses stock assets like normal. There are broken textures, or untextured things, throughout the game. The game seems as if it should have been free on Gamejolt or Itch.io, but was released here instead because they knew they could.
This game shouldn't cost money. It really shouldn't. I don't know why or how this does, but it does. I was able to get out of the map and there are bunny enemies for no reason once for a few seconds. Why? What's the purpose?
I really wish devs would understand that they can show off their work for free first then release their product after people see what they can do.
Here is a full playthrough of both endings on my channel:

This truly is the game ever.
But honestly, out of every horrible game guru game I've ever played, this is probably the best one, as sad as it sounds. This game even has two endings and ambient music playing in the background, so a lot more effort was put into this game than in any other game guru junk. Is it worth it? Absolutely f$cking not, I got this game when it was down to like 0,47$. I just love horrible horror games and I can't bring myself to hate it. There is a weird graphical glitch, where the entire game will be black, and the only way to fix that is to turn the grafics to the lowest option, and I have no idea why this happens. The overuse of sound effects make this game funnier than it should be.
All in all I will remember this game fondly because of the many times I jumped outside the map, the weird graphic glitch, the bugs bunnies, the two endings and the fact, that the title screen has no music at all.
This should be nominated for game of the year

*WARNING: This game has been reviewed by GameGuru standards. Normal player discretion is advised.*
The Spirit Underneath is perhaps the best game made with GameGuru but this is not saying much since the game is nothing but a poor's man (or should I say homeless!) version of Dear Esther and Amnesia: A Machine of Pigs...
POSITIVES
+ Cheap, uninspired but yet creepy sound effects (assets)
+ Some sense of narrative (although underdevelopped)
+ Two endings (although unrewarding)
NEGATIVES
- GameGuru !!!
- ASSET FLIPS !!!
- Horrendous visuals
- Constant and long loading time
- Constrained and linear levels
- Poorly written story
- Very short (around 20 minutes)
Why waste your time and money on this game when there are better games on the market...

I check out if this game is worth your time and money. Um... Well in short. No. It feels just like a cash grab game. No offense to the creator if he/she poured their heart into it. It feels like somebody very inexperienced learned a few things on how to make a game and put out their first attempt. This should be on Gamejolt for free, not on Steam for money. My video below is me doing a review and showing you exactly what you're getting out of it.

Game Guru is the one engine I have a sick fascination with. Most developers use this engine to crap out absolutely atrocious games to sell them on any storefront they can and this game is no exception.
Story:
In The Spirit Underneath you play as an unnamed man who awakens in a mysterious graveyard , with no idea who he is and how he got there, as you try to piece together the story and escape hell.
If you played My Bones, the story is almost an identical rip off, like I mean even the plot twist is the same. It's absolutely terrible and when you read the first note you already can easily guess how the story plays out. Even the ending of the game has an identical choose how you want to proceed with the story. Literally no effort put into the game.
Graphics:
Like most Game Guru games the game is filled to the brim with a bunch of asset flipped locations and items. You remember My Bones, the game I mentioned at the start of the review. Well these two games look identical, the first location is literally a fiery red graveyard that looks abysmal.
There is a few moments where character models appear and they seem completely out of place and it honestly makes me laugh. There's on part in the game where you encounter killer bunnies that look like Robbie from Silent Hill 3.
Audio:
The audio like most of the textures is all stock. The music is constantly looping and absolute pain to listen to, The stock effects like a scary noise happening when you get too close to a certain object sounds like it was pulled straight out of a 3 AM video.
Gameplay:
The Spirit Underneath is basically a walking simulator where you hunt keys and unlock doors until you finish the game. It's really boring and not to mention at first you think there is going to be threats going after you because you have a HUD that displays your health and lives and you simply can't die in the game.
Just like My Bones this game is also insanely short. A single run will take you less than 10 minutes and there is another ending in the game for you to check out, but even then these endings are joke endings that make literally no sense.
Verdict:
The Spirit Underneath is absolutely atrocious. It's not scary, really boring and not to mention absolutely horrendous. When I played My Bones I thought that was the bottom of the barrel, but The Spirit Underneath managed to dug past the trash and crawl even further down the same barrel. It's an atrocious game that is not worth a single cent from you.
Final Rating:
1/10
Pros:
N/A
Cons:
- Asset flip
- Stock music makes you laugh rather than scaring you
- Pretty much a direct rip off of My Bones
- Really short

I had high hopes for this but unfortunately, this game is even less fun than MY BONES.
I tell you why in short fashion:
- same boring music the entire time.
- random sound effects off bad quality ( wich dont even make any sense ), some of them are even cut-off
- Terrible level design
- GAME IS WAY TO DARK! A game is not scary when it's only dark!
- some scipts are not working ( light on/off ) ??? what was that supposed to do??
- Story is boring and nothing new to horror games.
- Minimal effort shown - No Music in Main menu, no custom sound effects, no custom loading screens. NOT EVEN CREDITS. What did it take to make this game? 3 Hours??
- You are able to walk outside the areas into the no man's land. Never heard of invisible walls?
TRY to make something unique at least.
Sorry, but this is just not good. I really wanted to like it, but I can't. Hopefully the developer learns of this.
It can only get better from now on.
Cheers
