The story is nice. As far as graphics go, well, there’s a total of 8 still scenes in the entire game, and of course, the text. That’s it. It's a very short narrative, but you must play 3 times to get all the endings (which are pretty much the same, tbh). It takes about 10 minutes for each playthrough, depending on how fast you read or how quickly you click through the dialog in the 2nd and 3rd playthroughs, as most of the dialog is repeated for each play. So, if you’re going for all 3 endings, it will take about 30 minutes or less. Being a free game, I can't complain too much, but I went ahead and purchased the .99 DLC to see what it might add. Also, come to find out, there's one last achievement with the DLC that you would miss if you only played the free game. In other words, you have to buy the DLC to get 100%. As I had come this far and finished three playthroughs, I thought, "What the heck, I might as well go for the 100% achievement score, otherwise, not getting all the achievements would affect my 'Perfect Games' and ‘Average Game Completion’ ratings."
Well, the DLC didn't add much. Just a paragraph or two of new "Intro" text... and that one extra achievement you need for 100%. Fortunately, it didn’t cost too much. The game also boasts 7 Trading Cards. Well, that’s not true. I’ll explain.
One of my complaints about the game is that the store page shows it comes with trading cards. Um, no, it doesn't. Maybe it used to? I'm not sure, but if that's the case, the trading cards are no longer included. In that case, the page should be updated. I realize that 30 minutes of gameplay often isn't enough to trigger trading card drops, as I've played enough short games that do come with trading cards to know that you either have to replay the game or leave the game running before all the cards drop. This wasn't the case, however, as I left the game open and running for 2.5 hours, and not a single card dropped. I confirmed that there were no cards to be dropped by checking my ‘Badges’ page which showed “No card drops remaining” for the game Sunset’s Ashes. This was the first and only time I played the game, and I didn’t receive a single card. One would expect at least 4 card drops for a game that has 7 trading cards. The game is free, and I’m not even bitter about paying .99 cents for the DLC (which really didn’t add much to the game), however, I hate being lied to, and I feel that’s what they’re doing by showing that the game comes with 7 trading cards.
So, I would only recommend playing this game for “free” if you’re not looking for 100% achievements, because as I said, it’s a nice short story, but if you want the 100% score, just know you’ll have to buy the DLC. And, don’t expect trading cards, otherwise, you’ll be disappointed.
