Faerie Solitaire Dire Reviews
The dark tide of the lost rises, and with it comes a chasm through the skies. The cosmic voice that eats up light. Leaving all but frail, wretched beings bereft of spirit who wander the lands in search of the spark, the ember of life. Beware the grey, indomitable fog.

Faerie Solitaire Dire is quite similar to Faerie Solitaire Remastered. The biggest difference is that FSD present more of a challenge. To me, that's a significant improvement and it makes the game more fun to play. It also has a different story than FSR. I highly recommend giving it a try since it is one of the best solitaire games on Steam right now.

A conditional 2022 Early Access thumbs up for Faerie Solitaire Dire.
The good
It's currently a perfectly playable solitaire game with attractive cards and music.
If you're a fan of the previous games by the developers, you will probably like it.
There are a few twists that set this apart from your typical Steam solitaire game.
The meh
There are a lot of systems that are only half-implemented at the moment. I have never been a big fan of the collectathon or shallow pet systems in these games, so it didn't really bother me.
The bad
The developers seem like nice folks, but they're implementing changes at a snails pace.
The current story that connects the levels just isn't compelling. You can skip it automatically, and I'd recommend it. Apparently it will be replaced by something in the future.
The full price of $20ish is not worth it for a 10 hour campaign.
The verdict
In it's current state, it's recommendable on a sale for fans of the franchise. Otherwise I'd wait for an official release.

I am still a bit baffled by the game, and it still seems to be having adjustments made to it, which is good, but I do keep coming back and playing it every few days, even though it's only for a hand or two. It's a bit dark and gloomy, but strangely compelling.
As of Sept. 2 2023, I have been through the game 9 times. I'm pretty sure I like it.

I have played all of Subsoap's games and really do enjoy Faerie Solitaire Dire but it is lacking at the moment a lot of stuff. So it really is very "early access". Go into the game knowing this, no pets or artwork yet in the game. However the dev's are working on it and it is still enjoyable yet limited.
I feel at this point we are more testing the game then fully experiencing it. Maybe putting the game out was a bit to early access for some (maybe a beta would have been better)? I find it still a positive experience but giving you a heads up before buying it at this point if your looking for a fully immersive game.
I look forward to the many features to come and plan to stick with the game as a solitaire game it is fun. It is more of a neutral experience at the moment I guess than anything.
** I will update my review as the game development progresses of course and provide screen-caps once I take some!

It's been out for 10 months (at the time of this review), and it's still an unfinished game. Only buy this game if you *really* love adventure solitaire games, and definitely don't buy this game at full price.

Not worth the price. No updates in over a year and half. You can't even finish the achievements because 3 of them are tied to content that was never added. If you want mindless solitaire there are much cheaper options.

First off, it works great on Steam Deck. You can use the touch screen or the right track pad and right trigger button.
I like the original Faerie Solitaire so much I bought It went first came out, when it was remastered, and also for Android devices. I bought Faerie Solitaire Dire in early access. As you can see it went in early access in September of 2020. It is now March of 2023, and it is still in early access.
There has been very little development and no real communication from the developer.
I enjoy playing Faerie Solitaire Dire as it's more challenging than the original game. In fact, I rarely beat a hand on the first try.
The game itself is very playable. The cards work, it's got sound effects, it's got music (borrowed from one of their other games), it's got artifacts you can buy to help you, it's got the pets you can evolve. Some artwork is a little placeholdery. The story is not present.
I bought this on sale a while back; I would suggest you do the same unless there is evidence of ongoing development.
They're promising big updates in 2023.
When those start dropping, I will revise my review. It's just been a while since there was a substantial update.
Edit: It's Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025 and the last update was still in October of 2022. Don't buy this game.

I had this on my wishlist for a very long time as I love the other games in the series. I wish I had read the reviews again before buying as there have been no updates in over a year. It's still not finished and kinda looks like a game that had only just entered Early Access. I am requesting refund for this reason and will buy again IF it is eventually completed. (Got burned a few times with EA games in the past).
Don't buy until the game gets it's full release unless you don't mind playing a bare bones solitaire. Buy one of his other games in the series instead. ;)

This review is being posted on release day, subject to change as Early Access progresses.
So far, there just isn't much there. Gameplay is simple, and does not gain in complexity (only in minor frustrations) as the game progresses. Took about 2 hours to complete all of the currently available content on the standard difficulty.
The game is just missing a lot right now. The "Pets", "Materials", "Pure Gold", freeing the faeries, none of it actually has an in-game function yet.
The higher/lower solitaire game functions as expected, but with not much more than you would expect from a smaller mobile game.
