Had this in my wishlist for a while, not sure... But should not have waited. Excellent game, very immersive & the locomotion becomes very intuitive. I cannot do free motion (eg Doom) without motion sickness, but this is fine. (Just don't try a 90 degree turn while 'galloping'!). Very polished product.

One of those classic arcade western games from the 80s with a twist you get to be in the game.Praise Jesus!

What a great game. It looks nice, it's responsive, the VO is very good (not too repetitive) and the maps are very clever. Lots of nooks and crannies. I feel like the aiming is a bit off at times especially shooting from a distance, but it could also be that other games are too forgiving. Not sure, but with unlimited ammo you can just keep shootin' and eventually you'll nail someone! I hope that this game gets a lot of attention and maybe even multilayer at some point.

Oh man, what an entertaining and beautiful looking game this is! Before I even begin my review, lets check out my first gameplay in VR and Mixed Reality on HTC Vive: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gePyj6GT6no Well, where to start? First of all, Hopalong: The Badlands is beautiful. Very beautiful! It really has that well-made and good looking graphics, cool environment and that funny wild-west stylish atmosphere. For a indie-title VR game, this is really impressive I have to say. The graphical surroundings reminds me a lot about Arizona Sunshine, well maybe almost at least and also a little bit more "cartoonish", but still very polished and detailed. I was truly surprised and impressed the first moment I entered the game. Sound effects and voice-overs are great (reminds me of Arizona Sunshine again), and especially the western-style guitar music in the background that adds a lot to the feeling. Gameplay then! Well, this is a funny cartoon/comedy-styled first person shooter with free locomotion, several weapons (both shooting and melee), several big maps to explore and various cowboy-opponents to kill. The gameplay itself is of course simple and maybe not unique for a VR shooter, but the one-of-a-kind locomotion itself adds so much to the game! You simply ride a stick-horse totally freely around the levels, by navigating with your left Vive controller, while you shoot and use weapons with the right controller (or vice versa or course). And thats where the fun part begins in Hopalong: The Badlands. The ability to run around on a stick-horse is on its own simply a brilliant idea and it adds so much "more" in Virtual Reality - you wont believe me before you try it. I couldn't stop laughing in the beginning, it was just so fun to ride/galloping on that stick horse, and at the same time does this game a little bit more challenging as well, as its much more difficult to aim and kill the enemies while galloping, even if aiming is accurate and weapon handling is good! Also, you gain health by letting your "horse" drink water, for example. Just brilliant idea - these developers has been thinking "outside of the box" and I love that, especially because most VR games are too similar to eachother! The game runs great on my GTX 980 Ti, and only time I got frame loss (dropped frames) was while I was recording the gameplay at the same time, so thats not because of the game, but more because of my capture software taking too much resources. All in all, a truly entertaining, beautiful and kind of unique Western-shooter, and I can recommend it to everyone. I really hope the devs will work hard on this title to bring us more content, and especially Multiplayer support further on - that would we awesome! I will eventually continue or update this review when I have spent more gameplay hours in the game, and especially when more content gets added in future updates! Cheers SweViver

This game is so good!! Perfect graphics, interface and mechanics. I wish all VR games were made like this. It's funny too and fun to play. The only remark I have is that it's pretty easy, but I've only played the first level so difficulty might increase. A little bit more story-driven would be nice too (I love stories). Anyway, if this is only Early Access, then I'm very excited about the final game!

You will laugh within the first 30 seconds of launching the game, and then be amazed at how simple and effective, the control method is, but don't let that simple style fool you, because this is a really cool and tricky western themed shooter. You'll need to 'waggle' in all directions, so that you can take cover and get a bead on the baddies. The sound is top notch also, with good ol' classic western sounding bullet whiz, and the sound of hooves... just don't look down :) Dynamite can be abit loud though, compared to the other sound levels. The music, which amazingly loops forever, and still sounds incredibly good, no matter how long you play, has a unique electro-westerny vibe. Gameplay wise, keep moving, and try to master the art of shooting while galloping, but also remember to take cover. If you're seemlingly 'stuck' with nowhere else to go, try looking for Ramp-like rocks, to gallop over. Some rocks are intentionally impassable though. This is definitely one to show your VR off, to people, especially if you want them to laugh within the first 30 seconds.

Lately I've found that some of my biggest problems, or what makes or breaks a VR Title for me, is sometimes the locomotion method is quite that good. I can say in full confidence that this is some of the best locomotion in any VR game I have played to date. Its so goofy and funny yet it works flawlessly. The actual gameplay is simple but very much enjoyable. You just HOPALONG on your trusty steed in one hand, and use your other to shoot bandits, and its done very well. I can fully recommend this title, especially since its easy to play, family fun, and great for parties

Easily one of the best VR games I've played. The movement system, the shooting, the humor... it's all great! Really well done. Can't wait to see the progression on this one.

Very clever locomotion system that works well, great cartoon style graphics. Seriously needs some difficulty settings or tweaks however as it's just too easy.
