Amazing art. But EXTREMELY bland. 5/10. I don't think the $10 is worth it. Dont spend over $5 on this. and $5 is pushing it. Luckily I got this during a sale. I dont hate the game and I don't think it is as bad as some people in the reviews are making it out to be. I love the body mods aspect of the game. This game is best played with a controller. I think the people complaining about the combat are using keyboard to play but IDK. One negative reviewer said that they had to restart the game 3 times to get it to play. I had to restart it once. So there is truth to this. The one thing ive noticed that makes the game feel very bland, is the EXTREMELY bland, and very bad, song that just repeats over and over again. The music in this game is not that great. I think the game would actually feel way better if the music was actually good to listen to. But it sounds like higher def gameboy music.

It had premise to be a good horror-biopunk-rougelike game made in Binding Isaac -style but no updates, atrocious bugs, crashes, corrupted saves just turn this probably good project into abandonware. No updates also for a while. So avoid. Or just wait for miracle.

I actually enjoyed the game alot, it's rather hard to keep up at first but eventually by playing real safe and slowly upgrading your character allows me to fight until 3rd world... which is all cool... until I stucked fighting this doggo boss that's took forever to kill because it heals way too fast and too much (the bloody bag chasing animation got way too fast after 2-3 rounds of hitting and running and you just can't outrun them and the boss will nonstop heals and I had been fighting this boss for a good 20 mins and my fingers hurt :'( ) I can't leave the world, I can't die, I can't defeat the boss and I am going nutssss UPDATE (14/6): I finally beat itttttt. Took me awhile to learn that you can't outrun the bloodbags so you have to lure them far from the boss so when he tries to heal the bloodbags will take longer time to collect the blood back to the boss to heal. :'D

A top down Binding of Isaac kind of game with a neat idea, where you reassemble yourself out of the parts of the gross monsters that you kill giving you new abilities and powers. Unfortunately the game is janky and grindy, the levels are randomly generated but really messy, and overall it has the feel of an old flash game.

Its just not fun to play. When I heard its a rogue-like where you could gather parts from monsters to use their ability I was intrigued, but turns out its shallow and boring.
Pros:
+ nice graphics and artstyle
Cons:
- the only rogue-like part is that it generates a random level, but you have a persistent character, which only further enhances the grind for better stuff just to progress - the number of equipable monster parts you can gather is way too small - monster parts decay - the thrown in story is lackluster and unnecessary - texts are full of errors and quite often you wont even get what it is trying to say - its not really playable with a controller and is flat out lying about the full controller support, since there are text pop ups you can only close with a mouse or the escape button - combat feels always the same, there is no real strategy, its mindless Id rather play some other rogue-like instead of this game, it feels clunky and unpolished. Combat which is a huge aspect is boring as can be.

Bought it and refunded it after a few runs. Concept is great, but still need a lot of work. (you only get to change feets, head and body, I think you should be able to change way way more, like both legs, both arms, eyes, and more) The game is too heavily based on roguelite element (imo) (if you find an ATM you get to keep all your money for any other run, so you basicly run dead runs to stacks money to buy hundreds of buffs and complete a run easily) (you also have to upgrade body parts, using body parts, but the body parts, and it's a terrible mess) Inventory is garbage, you've got a 10/15 slots inventory, not even an equip tab to have a simple overview of your equipments and bonus (you click on the parts to equip them in the inventory and that it) TLDR : Game is sold as a roguelike, but it's a roguelite, and need way much more work to be enjoyable for the moment, come back in 1 year

I saw this game on sale and purchased it because the artwork looked great. Unfortunately, that is all it has going for it. The the game play feels exactly like an early 2000's flash game without any of the nostalgia. Character dialog and in game information feels like it was stuffed into google translate from Chinese to English and it doesn't make sense in the context. The game still needs a lot of work.

"He who fights monsters must remember not to become one" That quote can summerize Fresh Body, a unique concept not in the genre that it is itself, but how it executes it Fresh Body is a rouge lite game thats very similar to Nuclear Throne, precisely the post apocalyptic feel, needing to find portals to the next room, and being a mutant. But not in a convention sense, it's map structure and special rooms are very similar to Isaac Where the game differentiates however is that it takes a Kirby element to a more creative, albiet slightly more morbid, approach As you kill mutants and other ghouls or monsters, aside from dropping items, they will also literally at times drop body parts, these are unlocked once you picked them up (they are then added to a monster encyclopedia) and each body part of different monsters literally alters how you not only look, but how you play (body parts can be switched with ease) You get a bag (which serves as a body part focused inventory, an actual inventory for other non body part items is seperate) and a combination of parts can affect every aspect of you, from special abilities such as a rotating severed monster head that can regenrate health when touching foes, to shooting eyeball bullets from your stomach, to causing mini explosions where you are facing as a mini bomb attack, to more simple things like jumping in particular manners (hoppinh, leaping etc) or just a speed boost with movement, these body actions recharge over time The idea of quite literally becoming the monster you fight is an interesting concept, espcially because a reason to replay old worlds/bosses is to get their different body parts You also have a hub world that implements half of the rouge lite elements. That half focuses on you using materials and money you find during runs, some of the upgrades include the following A converyor belt that allows you to start runs with some freebie usable items, the more upgrades, the better quality A body part inventory expansion-self explanatory A repair bench (as you use body parts, they eventually "rot' after so much use, and you can throw them away to get a secondary currency, which will be mentioned later in the review) A freezer, to preserve body parts until you need them or want to use them These are just some of the examples of the games hub upgrades The other half of rouge lite elements comes in the form of secondary currency, that currency being serums, which are then used to buy permanent character upgrades, they are bought from a cop you can find during runs, and as you upgrade yourself, as expected things get more expensive but have better benefits, these can range from simple max health expansions to increasing percentages of critical hits or elemental attributes being added to some attacks (as some examples) You can also use money and serums for other things like put them in an atm (at the hub or during runs) because if you die, you lose everything you had on you except body parts you were holding and "wearing" but if you keep things in the atm, you can save up serum or coins for another run and buy something expensive, as long as you dont die, or save up money and serum for a hub upgrade Other things include trading serums to unlock body parts (which are located in demon rooms, similar to Isaac) paying money to gamble at a wheel of items style game, with benefits and drawbacks, or go to the shop room to buy items, you can even pay a woman to kiss you and heal you, or sometimes she can hurt you, and a nurse can be paid to throw potions your way (or sometimes a carrot, potions are better than food, but those girls are examples of gambling) Despite the game being weird in the concept of doing things like talking to a cop to upgrade your character, girls to heal or hurt you, and that the developer's may not know english that well (mistranlations) and maybe a weird/confusing vibe you might get from the game at first, don't let those fool you or discourage you With great controls, an innovative concept, and solid gameplay and a somewhat confusing, but still understandable and interesting story, Fresh Body was a risk I took, but a great one, and I hope the game gets more attention

Update: 1/11/2019 It's gotten a lot better and a lot worse since I wrote the previous review. Essentially, the graphics and the Ui changed. DLC launched, the music changed a bit , but now you can't play it offline, period. I don't trust any single player game that requires an online connection. Plain as that. Old Review , 2016-------------- I'll keep this simple. Pros : Reminds me of older body snatching games. We haven't had a decent body part stealing game in almost a decade and that's a shame. 1. Nice graphical direction. 2. Gory. 3. Simple to play. Cons: Everything else. 1. No instructions or real directions. It's tiring to see this. I wish this stupid fad would end. Figuring out the rules of the game is an excellent way to pad play time, not the patience of players. 2. Horrendous Engrish. I'm used to Engrish, but this is a new level. Coupled with the lack of directions, the directions you are given are shoddy at best and useless at their worst. The characters you interact with are shallow, which may not be the intention but when you interact with the "Pay me to go with you character" you wouldn't know you -have- to pay that character until after you talk to them. There's no option to say YES or NO, it's just boom, you paid them already. 3. Feels like those crappy Xbox 360 Live games that you waited for to go on sale for a dollar to purchase. Lair of the Overlord , Revenge of the Dungeon, etc. It's the same darn thing all over again. 4. The sound effects and little music are grating after the first level. 5. The only way to return to base is to either die or complete a zone, but when there's a banking system in place to mitigate your losses.. The problem becomes that the bank machine never spawns. 6. I wouldn't call it challenging, this is one of those Square Peg- Round Hole games. If you keep grinding the hole, eventually you'll get through. Fine if you have the patience for it, other than that. No, the first boss comes out of left field and only after ramming your square peg into it a few dozen times will you actually grind through it. 7. Poorly explained mechanics. Okay. There's your health. There's your stress. There's your XP. There's your Energy. At no point does it actually explain what Stress is for. 8. Buttons interrupt menus. Accidently pressing the directional on the controller while banking interrupts the transaction. I really wanted to like this game, but at this point in time I can't recommend it.

Picture if you will a game you stumble across randomly with only $1 off it's $10 asking price and deciding to take a plunge. Loving it's overt he top horror theme that reminds gives you splatterhouse vibes and liking the idea of a roguelike where your equipments are the body parts of your enemies. Now imagine that mechanic doing exactly what it says on the tin, with each bits having a pool of stats it can be, variations of the same parts from the tougher/miniboss version of the enemies, beiong able to get the parts of bosses granting you their abilities, being able to upgrade them by mixing parts of the same type together AND being able to upgrade them further by crafting accesory body parts such as wings and hooves to graft onto them. All wrapped up in an over the top horror theme that's not only gratuitous to the point of hilarity but also geniunely disturbing at points. THIS is a game that's going places, REALLY REALLY good places as they add new monsters and the ability to get parts from existing varients. It's fun to mess around with different parts and if you're a whore for numbers part combing and acessories are going to keep you going for a while....As long as you can get over the Engrish....With a proper translation though this game will be great. Also for anyone complaining the game doesn't tell you things, pay attention to the characters speech as well as tool tips.
