Avoid! Super Puzzle Sisters is quite the puzzling game. The presentation is good, the music is servicable and the controls are responsive however for a puzzle game it just isn't good enough. For one thing the game has 5 buttons...FOR WHAT PURPOSE?! Let me explain, this game is seemingly a reimagining of the old SNK puzzle games, Magical Drop series. I imagine it was at the very least inspired by them because it copies the basic puzzle forumla but manages to ruin it. Typically you line blocks up and when you get 3 or more in a row you get a 'line' and score points. If you break a line that forms another line you make a combo and that scores even more points. This game takes the combo scoring aspect and attempts to base the whole game around it. This isn't a terrible idea in itself but where this game falls apart is that you have to manually break the blocks by punching them, with button B. But only the first stack, if it makes a combo then it automatically breaks the rest, which is confusing in its inconsistancy. There is also a bug or feature where by you can break blocks on opposite ends of the grid by punching them but as long as you do it fast enough then that also counts as a combo. You want to perform combos so you can build your super meter faster, which comes in offensive and defensive flavor so if you are in a pinch you can defend yourself or you can attack your opponent if they are in trouble and make it worse. Except some of the characters have attacks that are pointless (hiding the AI screen isn't going to have any effect) or broken like the little caveman that makes rocks that cannot be moved. When talking about the games systems it sounds like a very deep and engaging game but the usage of 5 buttons wears thin on your patience as a beginner and even when you are an intermediate player, this game has no online. So good luck finding someone local to play against and then explaining all the convoluted systems too! Even then, assume you do tick all of the above boxes by some miracle, the game itself offers little challenge if you pick the caveman and feels like rng dice rolls if you pick any other character. Also why is the block speed so high? This isn't an issue when you get used to it but remember tetris? remember how it starts slowly before getting faster and faster? This is to ease you into the game. My first few runs were a nightmare trying to figure it all out and then after I did I had to convince other people to play this game and they got bulldozed by the fast movement speed. Yes I checked the options, no there is no way to slow it down! My final thoughts are this, adjust the speed so the game starts slow then speeds up and reduce the number of buttons required! Make special powers activate as soon as you charge the meter (there is literally no benefit to holding onto the super meter!) and perform both defensive and offensive actions simultaniously. Make blocks break automatically (remove punching) and finally add online. IF this game ever gets a sequel and addresses the above issues then I am sure it will do better than this game did. I like puzzle games but Bedjewelled really set the standard and I apprechiate this game didn't try to be a copy of that one but it was too clunkly.
- REVIEW BASED ON INITIAL EXPERIENCE. SUBJECT TO CHANGE -
I only played 8 minutes of this game and I say I'm impressed with it's atmosphere and gameplay. The art style is amazing and cutesy, and I definitely love the arcade-like feeling! My only complaint for this is only on controls only. I do not have a gamepad so I use my keyboard, but only the default controls can be used (WASD - MOVE, J-THROW, K-GRAB, L-PUNCH) and they cannot be customized, for now I believe. Anyways despite having no gamepad to use, I tried the game out with an XBOX 360 arcade stick... What an experience! It feels just like playing in the arcades, but at your home. In the basement. On a mid-grade laptop. Alone. But it's still great! Simplicity at it's best, I definitely recommend this for the action-puzzlers and casuals alike who want to have fun. Cheers!

I havent played long but it seemed to do well at what it does. nice graphic, music, has a similar feel to puzzle league and puzzle fighters to me. My main problem was a lack of story mode or a similar single player campaign mode.

There's a menu bug with Super Puzzle Sisters that slows every effect down wayyyyy too much. Fade-ins, moving objects, shrinking and growing objects,... none of those menu objects work properly and makes it very confusing to navigate. On my PC, at least. Trying to play a game mode makes the first 2 seconds of every session unplayable. I'd say the music's great... but that's just royality free from somewhere else. Not their own. I like the visual style with the voice acting too. That's something eyecatching. ...But. The menu bugs are so bad, I think the game in this state shouldn't get supported and I had to refund it. Fix those menu bugs (which probably won't happen, since the bug existed for 2 years) and I'd say this game has a potential to be something really good. A hidden gem, perhaps. Right now though? No.

I love me some local co-op games. I caught wind of this via a friends Twitter and was sold on the idea pretty quickly. It's a fast paced cutesy puzzle game with quick matches, 6 characters with different powers, and quite a few different play modes. I'm always looking for fun local games and this fits the bill.. And unlike something like Mother Russia Bleeds (which is awesome), I could actually play this with my parents if they visit.

Great unique Puzzle Game, the local multiplayer and controller support works well. Could really benefit from having custom options for the arcade and multiplayer like puyopuyo/tetris, such as controlling game speed and other modifiers (faster then I would like). Also it would be nice if there was support for a button that jumped to the far left or right like tumblestone (also a great puzzle game).

Fun idea and could be alot better. It takes a little while to get used to punching things. A game like this could be great fun to play with friends and family of all ages, however the game starts a little too hard which pretty much pushed out all friends and family from playing with me. I would guess that the peices don't enter the filed in waves but instead a consistant pace. If they do come in waves then they are so shallow that it's not notacable.

A fun little Japanese-style Arcade Puzzle game with super charming, vibrant art and delightful tunes. Not a lot for a solo player to dive into though; just a timed mode (2 or 3 minutes or something; come to think of it, I haven't been paying attention :P ), an Endless Mode, and a Wide Mode that reformats the playfield into something that fits in widescreen, which seems like an impossible thing to keep up with. But it all plays well, which is great news. Especially if you've got some friends around to dive into multiplayer with. Its that puzzle design where there are colored blocks on the playfield, and you remove some, then plop them back down on other like-colored blocks to clear them (though you have to activate the clear manually - called "Punching" here). All the while, blocks slowy creep towards the top of the playfield threatening to crush you when they reach you if you can't clear them fast enough. If you have ever played Capybara's "Critter Crunch", or Teyon's "Ball Fighter", its pretty similar except flipped around (grabbing/shooting blocks from the TOP of the playfield instead of shooting them up from the BOTTOM). Its a good design, and one most arcade puzzle fans should definitely check out if they haven't. Super Puzzle Sisters executes it well and also does the right thing by adding its own twist here in the form of special moves, which change depending on your adorable SD anime girl avatar. The only real problem I have are the color choices for the blocks. Most are fine - yellow, green, blue, red, purple and violet. Out of those, most stand out from each other. HOWEVER,the red and the violet look way too similar imho, and there's already a purple (which DOESN'T look like the red). That makes the violet a redundant color choice, and I don't like how much it resembles red. Even the designs are too close - a 4-sided polygon (a diamond) on the red and a 5-sided Pentagon on the violet? C'mon now. It throws your brain off a bit while you're scrambling around grabbing blocks. There's no punishment for trying to pick up a different colored block when you're already holding some, it just won't let you pick it up. Your brain will take a quick beat to adjust and you'll move on. Still, its a little annoyance that seems like it could be easily fixed with a quick asset swap. Merely changing it out for a different color/design - what about a white block? With 5 DOTS on it (like dice)? None of the other pieces have dots on them. That would stand out a whole lot more. If the violet block color is an issue for me, I imagine people who are color-blind will hate it. But mostly, the lack of content is what gets me. Puyo Puyo games have cute, simple little story modes. Puzzle Quest and Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes have psuedo-RPG modes; I'd love to see something like that here. Granted, this is like $7 - little for the solo player is no deal breaker; I just want more to do :) Its great for a quick little pickup game though, which is EXACTLY why you'd want an Arcade Puzzler like this in your Steam Library. And there's lots more fun to be had if you plan on playing multiplayer stuff. Overall, its really well done. Not flawless, but definitely very enjoyable, and perfect for quick pick-up-and-play sessions. Besides Magical Drop V and Raining Blobs, and Doctor Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine in the Sega Genesis Classics Collection (which is Puyo Puyo in Japan - you can pick up the mod to play that version in the Classics Collection Steam Workshop if you're not a fan of Robotnik's aesthetic, remember), there's just not enough of these types of games on Steam. If you enjoy games like this, or think you might enjoy arcadey puzzlers, feel free to pick it up :)

It's a very different puzzle game, but it doesn't take long to get used to things, and from there it sets out to do everything it aims for. Highly addictive and charming, it's really quite the throwback to 90s puzzle games many of us grew up with, while being an equally chaotic-yet-controlled game in multiplayer. Wide mode Co-Op in particular is loads of fun! Keep in mind that 1 hour of play allows for a lot more games than you may think. Like I said, addictive, and great for "Just a quick round" plays :)

Good arcade puzzle game, but it's nothing like the Panel de Pon and Pokemon Puzzle League. May almost look like the Puzzle League games, but mainly nothing like those.
