Hard as hell. Options menu is a little hard to understand. Great music, adorable character! Some more backstory/tutorial would be nice.

Legit feels like it could have been ripped from a PlayChoice-10. Solid and satisfying retro arcade game that feels right at home on cab setups. Get it!

Space Cat is easily one of my favorite "Hard" games now with Version 2.0. This update adds so much to the original game, on top of the classic modes, there is an updated hub area, hats, basketball, changeable soundtracks (at the time of this review, only a few are out) and most importantly, an adventure mode.
This mode has 8 stages that are very much like classic side scroller bullet hells, except with the mechanics from the base game, allowing for some fun mobility. The jetpack opens up the option of avoiding enemies, and in the later stages, its sometimes better to do just that. There are a few weapon choices, but they work differently from each other, allowing for smarter play once you get the handle of them. Finishing the adventure mode gave me the same feeling that beating Dark Souls for the first time.
The designs of this game, from levels, to enemies, to the music is fantastic. It's the kind of fun you'd get from turning on your NES playing Mega Man 3 or Castlevania as a kid.

So, i recentally came apon this game, this game is a gem, and i think its a bit obscrure, the controls are smooth and the gameplay has me addicted, the plot is simple and reminds me of an NES or SNES game same with the visuals. i don't enough people to play the battle or basket ball gamemodes and if online was somehow incorperated into the multiplayer it could be played a bit more chaotic and more available to the gamers who don't have people to play it with locally but people who can online
the game seems to run at a smooth framerate and no slowdowns, the difficulty i find challenging but fun, the soundtrack is AMAZING and feels like its straight from an old NES or SNES game.
i give this game a solid 8/10, great game but unfortunatally local multiplayer only with no online play to date. hopefully this game gets more popular as i see great qaulity for it. cheap price and easy to play, pick this up if you can.

Space Cat feels nostalgic from the very beginning. It features 8-bit art (with a bit of modern cheating) and music which harkens back to arcade boards like Pac Man and Dig Dug, with the modern flair afforded by progressive technology and design. It feels like a Game Boy game being enhanced on the Super Game Boy; this comes from its customizable SGB-like border, in the presentation of cutscenes, and the simplicity of its colors and shapes. It doesn't chain itself to the limitations of the past, though! It has beautiful but simple parallax effects, comical detail (just wait until you meet Biggie Frost!) and clearly distinguishes between over a dozen enemies through color and function.
Under the hood Space Cat contains simple and intuitive mechanics, which combine into a deceptively challenging experience in Adventure Mode (the hot young star of the game). The titular hero Space Cat can run, double jump, cling to walls and jump from them, attack enemies with his claws, and use a jet pack which recharges fuel when you are on the ground. He can also choose from a few items littered throughout the level: a melee-range hammer to deflect bullets, a gun to shoot enemies at range in four directions, or an umbrella to slow his descent. If you plan to see Space Cat through to the end of his adventure, you'll need to learn to do it all.
Levels scroll automatically, which adds both tension and difficulty to the experience. Instead of being able to rush past enemies, you have to deal with them, at least for a short amount of time. Some enemies are beyond reach, others are hiding in the background and waiting to pounce. Then at the end of each level Space Cat must learn the mechanics of the unique stage boss. None of the levels ever feel unfair, because the way forward is clear and there is milk spaced throughout the stage that space cat can use to recover his health. The bosses can be stressful because if you die, you have to start the whole level over. But I was never frustrated with the game for anything but my inability to complete a level.
On the technical side, this game is far from perfect. On more than one occasion keyboard inputs were dropped, but it thankfully never made anything impossible - the versatility of the character makes it easy to work around this. There are no control customizations, so multiplayer on a single keyboard is tough, and not all controllers are supported so you will need to manually map controls to the given keyboard controls. There is also no netplay, so if you want something like that you'll have to get REALLY creative.
Even with everything I've highlighted, there's so much to this game worth praising:
* A traversable menu, where you move Space Cat around to access its modes and customizations
* Like 100 unlockable hats
* A 2-player basketball game and a playable game in the credits menu
* Arcade mode, with all the same mechanics present, formerly known as Space Cat 1.0
* 4-player local co-op or competitive play in adventure and arcade modes
* Stage Select mode after you beat the adventure for the first time
At the end of the day for the content, price, and the care and dedication put into it, Space Cat is a lovely gem for arcade enthusiasts, indie lovers, and nostalgia hunters alike.

I bought this game today and i played 1.7 hours of it already, very adicting and a wonderful soundtrack.
I saw that this game might be taken down if you do not receive $1,000 but if you do not reach your goal I don't want a refund, I want you to keep it. This is one of the games I have been searching for my whole life and I found it in a random corner in Steam.
If you could add online multi player so I could play with my friends then I would be very happy.

This man has been working on this title for almost 6 years and it only has 16 reviews? that is a crime.
surprisingly LEGIT game, has the charm of NES classics. this game is honestly genius, with great game design, couch multiplayer, and customizations to seal the deal. i really enjoy this game, it is a lot of fun

An incredibly charming arcade platformer. Honestly the Adventure Mode and Boss Rush alone make this an easy sell. The classic arcade mode is a pretty straightforward affair: Smash blocks to get coins and gems for score, but you're also busting up your footing. So it's a constant spinning plate act of breaking blocks and defending your flooring from missiles that speed in from the sides, after a short time a UFO pops up, you give that a smack and more blocks are scattered throughout the board, keep doing this as things get faster and more hectic until you inevitably fall into the pit below. I can only imagine how hectic this gets in multiplayer. It's also pretty customizable, offering a fair selection of mutators to make the game easier or harder by adding extra weapons and powerups, or adding more hazards like snow or bombs. If you're feeling particularly masochistic, you can even remove core mechanics like double jumping or wall clinging.
The Adventure mode is practically a separate game in itself. It's not often you see a sidescroller where every stage is an autoscroller, but there's always plenty of obstacles to dodge and robo dogs to blow up, so you're never really left waiting around for too long. What REALLY surprised me however is you can speed up the scrolling by getting close to the edge, that makes repeat playthroughs much better once you begin to memorize enemy and hazard placement. Every stage ends with a boss battle too, all of which are pretty solid, with the real stand out being the giant walrus boxer (Biggie Freeze).
Sounds and music are on point as well, I'm very fond of the title theme especially. The game's arcade mode reminds me of early NES games with the solid black backgrounds and simplistic but easy to read sprites. Though things get a lot more detailed in the game's adventure mode, with different tilesets and backgrounds.
The game controls pretty damn tightly, which is good because it asks for a lot of prescision and quick reflexes. My only real complaint with the controls is you're locked to the ground while attacking, meaning you can't jump while Space Cat is swiping out with his claws, or using one of his weapons. That's thrown me off more than once and it makes attacking and platforming at the same time a bit of a muddy affair.
The game offers a lot of content and enjoyment for its humble price, Ondydev put a lot of love into this game and I can certainly feel it. I recommend giving it a look for the Adventure Mode alone, but I can see myself spending a lot of time in the Arcade mode as well.

Steam page of this game (trailer, poster, etc.) is presented poorly — thought it was some kind of poo-poo game, but I gave it a chance and tried it — surprisingly it's a great game! Played «Adventure mode», really enjoyed it!
