Add-on taking place during the beginning of Bioshock 2. The story is a bit different than usual. However it doesn´t really add anything significant to the main plot. New things consist of one new weapon - a laser gun, a gravity plasmid and a handful of new enemies. The level design is solid and the maps are quite big, although [u]the addon is overall very short compared to the main game[/u]. One thing i didn´t like was that due to the shorter lenght there are no power to the people upgrade stations, hence most of the upgrades must be collected though weapons which have been scattered across the base.

I'm generally not a fan of DLC that has you start a new save in a game like this, but Minerva's Den is a very good one. You build up your arsenal at a decent rate, it won't take long to start getting some of the good stuff again. I really enjoyed the story, more than one from the main game. Minerva's Den plays largely like a condensed version of the main game, starts out reasonably challenging before getting a little easier with each thing you acquire or purchase. The new additions are neat, and I'm [b]so[/b] happy it doesn't make you [spoiler]research splicers[/spoiler] again. One thing I [b]hate[/b] about the DLC is how it trolls your muscle memory by having weapons in a completely different order from the main game, and unlike Plasmids, there's no in-game way to reorganize them outside of rebinding the number keys, which will not affect the weapon scroll order. I had the game crashing a lot more during gathering than in the main game, but a pre-emptive quick save before each one made it not that big a deal. Definitely worth playing. Mind the crashing, though.

A worthy expansion to the "BioShock" universe, this DLC is a welcome addition to the original title. "Minerva's Den" is a compact side trip accompanying the larger Rapture journey with sufficient plot development to keep a player's interest throughout and a twist climax that is as unexpected as it is memorable. I missed this story when released years ago, but I'm glad I could still experience it today.
