I played Layers of Fear: Inheritance, and it felt like returning to the haunted corridors of memory — but this time, through the eyes of the artist’s daughter. The expansion shifts the perspective, and that small change hits hard. Now I wasn’t just witnessing madness — I was born into it. The game brought me back to the decaying mansion, but it was different. Not just because years had passed, but because I saw everything through the lens of childhood trauma. Rooms I’d seen before were now tinged with the fear and confusion of a child trying to make sense of a broken family. The house felt less like a haunted maze and more like a distorted memory — fragments of moments, half-forgotten arguments, flickers of warmth twisted by neglect and obsession. The emotional tone was heavier than in the main game. There’s less surreal horror and more psychological weight. The daughter’s voice guided me through drawings, flashbacks, and inner monologues, and I felt torn between sympathy and resentment. She’s trying to reconcile with a father who destroyed himself and everything around him, and I was right there with her — wondering whether to forgive, condemn, or walk away. Like the original, Inheritance doesn’t hold your hand. You explore, you interpret, and your choices shape the outcome. I reached an ending that left me quiet for a while. Not because it was scary — but because it felt personal. Layers of Fear: Inheritance isn’t just DLC. It’s a painful, intimate epilogue that adds depth to the original game’s tragedy. If Layers of Fear is about descent into madness, Inheritance is about surviving its aftermath — and deciding what pieces of yourself are still worth saving.
