// Rogues Like Us
Positive reviews. Not a Procedural (randomly generated) game.
: Talk to the NPC standing outside the dye shop to enable it. Player 2 will have all of the abilities that Player 1 has, including being able to equip armor and customize it with dyes.
Cool controls; e.g. Aim w/ LT and fire with RT
[RB] Map
[A] Sword
[B] Slam
[X] Dash
[Y] Recall (Hold to mark the map with a quick travel porta > then click Y to travel between point you were at, and point you marked)
[RS] Move camera
[LT] Hold for AIM
[RT] Shoot
Works with Xbox One Core and 8BitDo Pro 2 controllers.

This game is pretty great.
I played this game at GDEX this year and decided to buy it and give it a go.
It has a lot of content for an early access game. Lots of enemies, bosses, collectable armor and weapons and levels.
If you are a fan of rogue-likes you should definitely check this out.

A decent game with consistent menu and helpful tutorial. Online co-op would have been nice.

Great indie game i just randomly picked up on steam today.
Highly recommend a controller but im using mouse and keyboard just fine. I love the fact that the dungeons are random everytime. Always makes for good replay value. Sound effects and special effects are nice and no crashes so far.
Good job oddByte!!

The combat is a classic easy to learn, tough to master type. The story easy to follow, and the game rewards players that clear areas flawlessly. It's well worth the price. The difficulty isn't too hard, especially if you are playing with a controller instead of mouse and keyboard. I would highly recommend this game.

All in all a neat game. Although there is no builtin co-op the steam remote play together feature works very well (very good internet connection required).
I honestly didn't expect too much from this game as it was released 2018 and has 19 reviews as of now. The first run through the game we immediately finished all the available levels, but luckily you unlock more levels and the existing ones even get harder as you continue to play. It has a slight rogue-lite feeling as you have to unlock weapons and armor with bonuses, but I would say it's still mostly skill-based.
If you want to play this game with a friend I would say it's definitely worth it if you can do couch-coop or have a good internet connection for steam remote play.

Very specific and entertaining action roguelike.
It gets more difficult with each level. The last levels are hard, so this game requires of you to sharpen your skills. After each level there is a boss that you must study and master.
What is unique about this game is that it features mini-progression type of gameplay.
You have 3 campains, of 4, 5 and 6 levels each. After you finish all 3 campains you open the portal to the last boss.
It is very important to state: when you are in a campain run, you can't save the game, if you quit you are automatically teleported back to town and then you have to start from the first level of a campain. So you have to complete the campain in 1 sitting. If you die there is a penalty.
The thing that makes this game specific is that all the loot (money, weapon, armor) and stat increase that you gather in a campain isn't permanent, but it is active only in that specific campain run! When you return to town and then start a new campain run, you start from scratch!!
The only thing that stays after a campain run is ultra cores that you are rewarded for beating bosses. With ultra cores you can buy weapon chests, armor chests, dye chests or enchantment chests. When you open a chest, it doesn't give you an item, it just gives you the probability of finding that specific item from that moment onwards.
Finding items, money and stat upgrade is randomly generated, and so is the structure of levels.
So with each campain run you just build the probability of finding better weapons, armor and enchantment in the ultimate campain run that will be used to find and kill the final boss.
It isn't easy to explain the mechanics of this game, as I said, it is very unique, but you get the picture.
There are many interesting bosses, but not many enemy types.
It is hard to reach the final boss, I did it, but not many players were able. Just go to youtube, there isn't a single last boss guide. So it is very rewarding to beat this game.
The graphics and sound aren't very good.
I can recommend Rogues Like Us only to roguelike fans and people who want a challenge.

This one lost my interest very rapidly.
When you start out it seems decent enough. The graphics are simple but work, the pacing feels nice, and the difficulty is about where you would want it to be.
But there is just -ZERO- meat on the bones of this game. The framework is all it has. You dont get anything transformative like new powers or abilities, you dont get items with interesting effects, and from what I've seen literally every weapon and armor piece is just alterations on stats. This could change if you make it further in the game, but everything I've seen indicates this as being the case. The only items with effects are trinkets, and they are minor effects.
There is also a very bad bug that exists (for me at least) that if you alt+tab the frame rate cuts in half and starts to severely stutter. The only way I was able to resolve it is close the game and re-open. This bug made the game close to unplayable simply from alt+tabbing.
There is no reason to ever play this game, it has nothing to offer in a world where good rogue-likes are a dime-a-dozen.

Fairly short but decent game. Enjoyment was about a 6/10.
No major glitches or bugs in my playthrough. Gameplay was consistent - no jank other than health/armor pickups being picky about how much you touch them before they are absorbed. Controls are simple but give a decent mix of combat strategy based on what weapons you find and what enemies you encounter. Combat in engaging enough to encourage playing past your first time beating the final boss.
Took roughly 7 hours to beat the final boss for the first time and 12 hours to 100% all unlockables. Once you've beat the game once you've probably experienced all there is to it. 100%-ing was just something I did to extend my money's worth and is usually something I have no interest in. Perhaps a tad short if only beating the final boss but once you get all collectibles it feels like the perfect length.

Definitley one of the better Indie games I've played. Should say ahead of time I'm not a Kickstarter backer just found this game browsing through Steam.
There are a lot of things I enjoy about this game, i'll get into that below.
What I like:
-Progression. While it's still in an early state the progession system isn't bad. Each dungeon level you get treasure, which you can in turn open back at the Hub. The items you get from them range from gems to empower your weapons, armour, dye, and weapons. You definitley see yourself powering up overtime atleast early in the game.
-The Art style. Love the graphics and how the game looks and feels.
-Soundtrack. Honestly love the music.
-The bosses. Each boss has several mechanics to watch out for. Feels like Zelda boss fights, and it's fun to see yourself figure out the mechanics of a boss after fighting it a few times.
-Loot/Customization. Love the customization in this game. There are a ton of Dyes to collect, multiple armour sets, and quite a few weapons.
-Gem. There's acutally a reason to clear every room in each dungeon. You gain "souls" which you use to purchase upgrades for your weapon every run.
What I dislike:
-After a while when the progression slows down it feels a bit grindy and repetitive. I don't personally have an issue with this but it is an issue nontheless.
-I honestly dislike the Charger enemy type. Super annoying and tedious to fight, but I guess what is a game if there arent any challenges.
-Keyboard/Mouse support isn't fantastic. Would definitley like to see you be able to rebind the keys.
What I would like to see:
-Armour giving stats. This could add for build variation not just through the weapon. Pretty sure it said in the Kickstarter sets would give bonuses when the full set is equipped but i have yet to notice that even with a full set.
-Able to switch keybindings for keyboard/mouse.
Honestly the game has a good solid core expirence that just needs to be extended upon. Obviously the game needs additional content down the road, but I have confidence the Devs will deliver and make this a fantastic little game.
