It's an open space game with plenty of things to figure out and do.

X3 is one of the best space games ever made. Farnham's Legacy is the 4th version of X3 and is easy as good as 2 and 3 leaning toward more sandbox play than stories. is one main mission but it's short. cool, but short. what FL provides is new and interesting dynamic relations with covert spy play that keeps things interesting while you try to dominate the universe. it also streamlines factory logistics and helps you manage your empire more easily. feels different than the others, with a slightly different map to keep things interesting. worth the money and on sale a steal.

At first I was very excited when Farnham's Legend got released, but after being stuck for 6 hours, in a severely restricted starting universe, grinding insanely boring and repetitive tasks to make enough money to advance the plot I give up. I just can't imagine what went through the developer's mind when creating these starting conditions. You're locked in a few sectors with minimal activity / economy, and the only thing you can do to advance the plotline in the hopes of escaping this miserable patch of sectors is to slowly grind for credits, bit by bit. Most buletin board missions are hilariously broken (e.g. get to some station in another sector that would take 8 minutes in a fully upgraded TP in less than 2 minutes). I don't think the people who created this even tried playing it. I played extensively and loved every one of the X3 games, but this is an abject failure and bitter dissapointment.

63 hours in and it has just been taken by the nose from place to stupid childish story line place. No open world like TC3. locked in to a few sectors without much to do. Need to solve puzzles to leave to larger universe, I assume. My hopes that TC3 was expanded in Farnham's Legend have been dashed most vile. But when you finally clear the closed space the game gets way better.

Well, it's a free community-made DLC: story is good but not amazing, new features are interesting but not so well implemented IMHO and in some story missions, you'll find some annoying bugs though. Play it.

I've loved pretty much all the X Series of games (With a couple of notable exceptions) Farnham's Legend makes for a fun story with some really interesting little quirks of it's own. Reminds me of X3 Reunion but with fun additions. Like most X games it can take a while to get up to speed (Haul those energy cells :P:P) but is fairly satisfying when you get to the stage where you can start buying your own ships and work on putting up some factories.

Instead of fixing core issues like: - OP M7Ms achieving which plus some torpedo factories is now basically an end-point of the game and a "god mode" eradication of stuff (that, also an issue, artifically respawns) that leads to imminent loss of player's interest. Also, NPC M7Ms and M8s are also too OP, if you dont enjoy imbalanced rocket spam yourself, these things cannot be countered. - Removing TC/AP bonus package trader/station management support (forcing you to use NPC pilot instead which i dont want because i prefer Xenon ropleplay keeping things as automated as possible) - Broken economics (docks 99% of time have 0 of everything, also production chains are too simple and outdated for today - why not to add quantum tubes for shield production for example as it is said in their description, and why warheads are not used in missile production lol?) - Non-capturable sectors, universe is static - Basically non-existent early game (what was arguably the best part of X-T, X2 and X3R where you feel self small and theres a big space around to explore and achieve stuff, which is now replaced with an immersion-ruining feeling where everything is about player service and free valuable gifts - Broken missions - rewards too easy farming, too artificial and stupid mission objectives spawn - Poor Xenon infrastructure and stupid respawns - Lack of development progress in Artificial Life aspect - Balancing of the ships (creating appealing perseus-copypaste kogarasu maru instead of balancing existing ships to try to make all of them equally interesting) .. devs decided to push dumb X4 trends of free stuff giving you HQ (some ugly boron thing while also removing cool TC/AP HQs from the game) just for launching a game, weird obsession with NPC people way of managing commercial stuff forcing you to use their station manager NPC instead of AI commands, and deliver new stupidities like so-called "discoverers guild" that can for example spawn a whole freaking asteroid out of nowhere for you, or immediately transfer reward wares like if they have 25km transporter and have unrestricted access to your ship, or new sector discovery/capture system that could in theory be great if done right but in fact is completely pre-scripted and feels artificial af, or cargo stealer device that is straight legitimate cheating by save-load abuse. Only good thing is new reputation system, though it needs some tweaking. At the start game actually delivers good atmosphere, but when you start hitting common stuff you understand that things only get worse. I am absolutely convinced that X3 Reunion is best game of the series and after it devs took a wrong way in the most of the game aspects, arcadifying the game more and more instead of developing immersion. X3FL could make X3 great again and close all the gestalts, but for me appeared to be a big disappointment.

I've discovered X3 series in 2020 via X4. After few false starts of "i don't get this UI at all", I'm now over 500+ hours combined with TC, AP, and FL, and well appreciate the unique well polished gem that is X3. FL is the game that feels "complete" - game systems work great with each other. AP has, for me, dead ends where you can be friends with everyone, can build some stations but player is definitely not a faction on a level as AI is, and minor factions and corporations aren't as fleshed out. What's great about FL? - exploration and think aspects are enhanced (details in list items below) - while some explorable sectors are randomized, game makes sure that nothing unique will be missed, and some discoverables respawn - tons and tons of QoL changes - dynamic reputation is delightfully asymetric and lore friendly. Based on who you're friends with changes the landscape of which sectors are easy to travel and trade in. - diplomacy aspect is what makes dynamic reputation a fun game mechanic and not frustration, since nothing is out of reach permanently - no need for looking up maps or ship comparison on-line - game collects data as you play, and map and ship search and comparison in-game is fantastic. Combined with diplomacy, this adds emergent goals of trying to find who sells or has the blueprint for ship you're coveting, and then figuring out how to get it. I'm immensely enjoying populating universe map without looking at online version beforehand. - you can be self sufficient faction: stations, upgrades, software, ships - it's all buildable! - million more things
