I got this on sale and I had a bit of fun. Although I had fun I cannot recommend this to other people. This game has many flaws that you'll have to put aside to enjoy. Damage is not shown. There is no way to tell which of your attacks does more damage. Story and grammar are messy. The quality of writing is very reminiscent of Wattpad. Dungeons are long and boring. Enemies are fairly spongy. With some polish the game could have been decent. If you have nothing to do and the game is on sale, you could get some enjoyment out of it. If not, do not bother.

i played this years ago and just decided to speak my mind about this now, my memory is a bit foggy, but i remember quitting somewhere right after the first hour, deciding that i have better things to do because: 1.) absolute confusion about the story and the surrounding very random characters after leaving the first or second area 2.) getting bored as hell just walking the map that has no reason to be so darn large 3.) seeing certain enemy battle sprites and realizing the dev probably kinda dont care what enemies they throw in what area yeah this was really a cheap buy so don't mind too much, but i also wanted to point out that like less than 1% of people who own this game here actually got any of the achievements lol i might play it again if i literally have nothing else better to do, and hopefully i won't quit faster than when i played the first time bit of a shame, cause i saw some sneak peeks somewhere i don't remember where from, but there seems to be just at least a few potentially interesting bits of humor and story buried somewhere in this massive waste of time should you play it? maybe until you get bored and decide you have better things to do. you could totally just buy it and play a little bit for the free cards if you're into that

Honestly this was quite a fun little rpgmaker game to go through with a nice small cast of characters and simple mechanics to deal with. It even has a few little puzzles like how to get access to certain buildings but I don't want to spoil it for those of you finding this game now and wanting to take it up, which, I do encourage you to do.

Conflicting art styles. Terrible music that does not loop. Awful writing (including many spelling mistakes). Abhorrent level design. Level/equipment scaling is random at best. The most fun I had playing this game was looking for walls I could walk through. There is literally nothing good about this game. Wouldn't recommend playing even if it was free.

I don't want to be too harsh with the developer, but this game needs some serious work for it to be recommended. I only paid $0.50 for this, so *shrugs* no loss on my part I guess. But if the developer wants to keep making RPGmaker games, please consider the following. I haven't beat it yet...I will finish it to get the last achievements and because I don't like leaving games unfinished, but in the 4 hours or so I've played, here are my thoughts. Map design> this needs considerable work. Most of the levels are giant, with random chests strewn all over, little direction, and random encounters that are annoying (See combat below). Artwork is expected rpg maker material, but implemented poorly. This is by far a major issue for me. I ended up wandering a level for almost an hour, getting bombarded with random encounters, blocked by tiles that should be passable but aren't always, all in hopes of collecting the random "pieces of whatever* item for quest. I probably missed some. I don't know. I'm not going to look for them any longer. Balance/combat> utterly broken. No strategy to battle design, and little concern for leveling. Spells/HP are all over the place, no particular strategy necessary for random encounters, and enemy design is just different color schemes. Audio>very repetitive, annoying, unmemorable Story> Is there a story? Thrown into a mish-mash of fairy tales, generic prince save pretty girl, and random mythology thrown in, I have no clue what is really going on. I played for 4 hours last night (albeit a little drunk) and barely recall the character names. No development, no story arch that pulls you in, and dialogue that is often misspelled and sounds like the conversational ability of a 16yr old. (Again, developer, no offense. Maybe that is what you are, in which case, good on you for making a game and putting it out there, that's more than I've done. But next time, at least spell check). Overall, look, it was $.50, and usually that means I can recommend for such a low price for a few hours of fun. But really, this is just a grind, and I'm only going to finish to get those last achievements. So no, pass this one up unless you want some mindless rpg grind while you sip on some scotch at 2am.

This is an edited review. Initially I couldn't play the game because of an error but the developer made it right and got me a copy that worked. I would recommend this game on that alone. However, this is a pretty good little rpgmaker game. The story is pretty short and simple. There were some laugh out loud moments but, in general, the dialog isn't too complex. There wasn't a lack of items to find in the world so I rarely needed to buy items for healing. The only problem I had was with the battles. They seemed to be either too easy or too hard depending on where you were in the game. I never seemed to have enough money to fully upgrade weapons and armor and the locations where they could be purchased were few and far between. Even with these flaws I would still recommend the game if you want to pass a little time with a game that has an okay story and a bit of grinding.

This is an amusing game to be played for a lark and to waste time. There is little serious about the game, the premise is amusing (the rulers of a kingdom in a world of magic find out there is a girl with none, so track her down to find what hers is). Very few things make sense. Combat is fun enough, and the paths seem linear. Just realize the game does not take itself seriously and you'll be fine.

After playing Finding Hope I was glad to see there was another game made by the same developer, so I played them one after the other. Beyond Magic has a lot of similarities to Finding Hope. Similar items and a lot of enemies have been carried over (I have a liking for games where you beat the crap out of cute things). There are a few of the same characters but the main protagonists and story have major differences. Game play is also pretty much the same, with the "If you follow the path you'll never get lost" and battles having the same mechanics. None of this is a bad thing because it all worked well in Finding Hope and I think it has been even more refined in this game. A small, but one of my favorite, differences is that your party follows you around while you travel the over world. The story is funnier than Finding Hope but has a lot of similarities. It even takes a strike at it's story making fun of it towards the end. Damien's hair curse on Ace is hilarious! My main complaint story wise is the use of unoriginal fairy tale characters for people your interact with throughout the game. Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty, and Snow White. Yes, it works with the game fine but I'd like to see some original characters to make this nice world feel more fresh. I enjoy the art style. It is definitely a step up from Finding Hope and looks more refined. It reminds me of classic anime mixed with old school animated kid's movies. The music is awesome. Aboslutely love it. I do have few complaints. Just like in Finding Hope, the white text is hard to read when placed over art work and the characters during battle. There are also a couple spelling and grammar errors but they do not get in the way of the story at all. As for game play issues, I've been blocked by small things that shouldn't be in my way and not being able to pass the tops of palm trees but being able to walk through the middle of them. I have also almost gotten stuck under the platforms on the way to Rumpelstiltskin. This isn't really a problem but Rain is always cycling her walking animation even while standing still. I greatly enjoyed this game and cant wait for Beyond Magic 2. Keep it up!

Beyond Magic, a game where you look for a girl's magic powers in a world where she is the only one not to have them, is one of the best RPGMaker game released this year so far. Amazing scenarios and soundtracks, progressive storyline with a great plot and a perfectly dose of humor. Really entertaining and awesome game, and for a really fair price too! The only thing missing for me was a run button. But as everything is not really far from walking distance this didn't make much of a difference. Ah, and the audio is really really loud, so you have to use your windows mixer to lower it. Great game devs! Keep up the good work!

This game contains huge maps and each one has a given path you mostly can't leave. You always move around for a few minutes and there is nothing special to see or experience on your way. Since there is no run button you spend most of the time walking. Walking and fighting mobs on your long, long journey down the roads. But you can find plenty of chests with one out of many items you'll probably never use. While wandering around there are randomised fights with only one enemy. The random factor isn't too annoying here but after walking an endless count of minutes on one map you just go "uggggh" because it feels like it's never gonna end. Mana potions are your best friend since fights might take an eternity without special skills (especially boss fights, those mobs have way too much hp). It looks important to defeat every enemy you encounter - there is a point where you can't afford any equipment or heal stuff because it's just too expensive (but still needed). I started to skip fights and suddenly all those enemies made way too much damage and lasted too long... I couldn't even afford anything new to equip. Alltogether it seems like a not balanced game with a forced story, which just seems to show unrealistic behavior at many points. Not to mention the bad mapping and some of the usual glitches (wall walking and disappearing people).
