Parkitect: The RCT2 Sequel We Actually Deserved

Rating: 9/10
If RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 was your childhood, Parkitect is the grownup version that still knows how to have fun and finally gives your janitors a break room. It captures the charm and pixel perfect satisfaction of RCT2 with smarter systems, better UI, and just enough modern depth (like logistics and staff management) to make you feel like you’re actually running a functioning business without losing the magic of building a coaster called “Neck Snapper” and watching guests line up for it. From isometric paths to obsessively themed food courts, it’s nostalgia done right. No gimmicks, no bloat just pure, sandbox joy with a side of puke cleanup.

If, when RCT moved to 3d, you missed the liliputian, toy-like aesthetic, this is the update and upgrade you wanted. I hope the studio picks another languishing IP to refresh just as well as they did with this one.

Camera controls are very limiting making everything super awkward, accidentally left the game on and cant refund it now. Theme Park Tycoon on Roblox is free and just as good, play that instead.

Really great theme park simulator style game. Turning on research adds an extra bit of difficulty to the sandbox games. The campaign is fun and a decent length, Multiplayer works pretty well until your park gets really massive. But at that point, the game is mostly over anyway.

Takes the idea of classic Roller Coaster Tycoon and takes it up a notch. Can't stop building parks and coasters - it's one of the best isometric coaster games out there. And the multiplayer is so much fun!

Parkitect is basically the RollerCoaster Tycoon 4 we actually deserved as kids — though I still can’t tell if it’s 2D, 3D, or some weird hybrid, but it looks damn good. The base game comes packed with tons of rides and scenery, plus the workshop lets you slap in anything from giant roller coasters shaped like wine bottles (because why the hell not?) to whatever bizarre crap you can dream up. The management side is surprisingly addictive and ruthless—you can lay off employees on the spot like Trump firing people on TV, expose your guests to harmless “gamma rays” to read their thoughts (pretty useful for knowing who’s about to complain), and basically run your park like a tiny amusement empire dictator. Fun times.

Having played this for far, far too long at this point, I think I can say that this is a game I would recommend! If you grew up playing the Roller Coaster Tycoon games, this will instantly be familiar and easy to pick up. It really is a spiritual successor to the game, more so than Planet Coaster, because of it's simplicity and aesthetics. Having the workshop available for this game also guarantees you will be able to find countless mods and quality of life improvements for the game.
