Just to nitpick on the bad things (while I work through this game):

The build-modal that pops up when you run too close stuff is annoying, but the real problem is that you can't close it by pressing escape, which will open the "quit level"-modal on top of the the build-modal. If nothing else get's fixed in this game, I personally need that escape button to close the open modal without opening a new one. Seriously.
Visibility issues. This is a pet peeve of mine. I hate running in the dark without being able to see my character. Finding the mouse cursor in the animated snow is also rubbish. Is not being able to see shit a game mechanic?
qbasic-movement. "if (key==right) x++;" Pong controllers are smoother than this. But this turned out to be less of a problem than thought it would be. Just saying the first impression irked me.
I was dubious at the first level, in love with the game by level 5 but now at level 12 I think I'm back to undecided. Thumbs up for now. Let's hope it gets better. edit: some hours later it still holds up. It has flaws but it's interesting enough. The playstyle is similar to deathtrap (all the actions is focused around your hero). I think I like it.

Couldn't find anything wrong to write a hateful review about it, so it's ok I guess.

Ok yeah haven't played that long but its not hard to make up my mind on how good this game is. the controls down right suck . your hero keeps running in the direction you last clicked no way to make them sit still unless you want to attack which uses energy to do. the movement system needs a complete rework. the game is only as playable as the controls allow so a good UI is one of the most important things. now don't get me wrong i have played games that the UI was crap but the game was still awesome. however that is not this game. its worth maybe $5 if you really have to have it but all in all its Flash game quality on over all looks and play so i see no reason to pay 10 like i did.

This tower defense game has some really awesome features to it that makes the game incrediably playable! Great lvling up system, great selection of classes, and some nice item drops. I find the game suprisingly difficult, trying to race around to grab coin to lvl up your towers while avoiding death. Most tower defense games I've played you just kinda stood there and waited around like an idiot this one is much more ACTION PACKED!!!! Great job guys!

Grate artwork style... But to be honest I always forget that this is even in my library, so yeah that's a problem. Believe me I do want to appreciate this game.

It took me a few minutes to get used to the controls but once I did I found it very addicting! Super fun, cute artwork, challenging but not impossible. If you're a fan of tower defence, you will love this game!

If it wasn't already obvious from the store page, this game is a tower defense / action RPG hybrid. You have the choice of using 1 of 3 heroes - a warrior (tank), bowman (ranged damage), or a wizard (ranged AoE damage). You can start with any of the 3 at the beginning of a map, and can swap in another if you happen to die before you finish it. You're also given stars for completing maps, which can be used unlock and upgrade different types of towers to place. Clearing maps also gives experience, so you can level up any of your 3 heroes. I played this game when it very first hit Steam, and it had a few issues. Controls were wonky, I lost my save data.. I gave it a chance, but it didn't work out. I lost the willpower. However, I recently came back to give it another shot, and learned that the developers had improved the control scheme to allow WASD controls. This dramatically improved the gameplay. Interestingly, I also found my old save data on my computer; apparently the save folder changed during one of the earlier updates. As I write this, I've just finished the game on hard mode, and overall the whole experience left me with a positive vibe. It's not without flaws, though. Below, I'll share some of what I liked and didn't like. PROS ------ 1) The stat progression feels rewarding. In this game, as you reach higher levels, you start to gain more stats (attack, defense, and health) per level. This makes it so each level is exciting to gain - I wish more games recognized this and followed the example. 2) It plays well in general. Bashing into enemies as the warrior, my favorite class, often feels like a pinball machine of pain (THEIR pain), as I bounce from mob to mob. You can do this as the other classes as well, but they don't have as much defense and health. 3) The 3 separate difficulty modes are somewhat tiered, such that you're not expected to beat hard mode from the start. This allows you to go back and replay levels for more experience. Granted, you don't have to beat level 30 on easy to start level 1 on medium. Each difficulty setting is a good nudge up in both challenge and reward, though. 4) My kids find the talkative fairy creepy, but I think she adds a nice touch to the game. She never did tell me something about the last boss, though! 5) If there's a level cap, it's high. I finished the game at level 40, and still have an experience bar filling up. I like it when a game allows me to decide when I'll stop leveling up, not the other way around. 6) Stable - zero crashes. CONS ------ 1) The stamina system isn't fun. This is one of the reasons I picked warrior as my primary. He just bashes into things, and stamina loss doesn't seem to impact him much. The bowman and wizard, however, are massively dependent on stamina. Once you run out, you can no longer perform a ranged attack, and have to either use a heart or go to a healing tent to replenish. This felt tedious, and I wasn't a fan. The wizard can only perform 9 casts before having to refill. Gaining more stamina on each level up would have been an easy fix for this. 2) Items with magical suffixes need tooltips. I never really know what they do until I play with them. If one replenishes stamina, that would be a fix for the wizard, but I didn't toy around enough to find out. "Of the gods" gives health regen though, so that was a sweet deal for the warrior. 3) Class balance doesn't seem right. The wizard in particular feels very underpowered, mostly due to the stamina system, and not being able to continuously cast. The overall damage from her spells feels low as well, or maybe it's the fire rate that suffers more? 4) Very limited settings. It's apparent that this game wasn't originally developed for the PC. All in all, this game delivers what it promises - it's a satisfying tower defense / action rpg. There are annoyances, but I don't believe they're numerous enough to warrant not buying the game. 5 bucks is a steal; I paid that much for my coffee this morning. I would recommend this title to other fans of the genre. Thanks for fun experience, devs. I hope to see more of your stuff in the future, or possibly more updates to this game. Nightmare mode, anyone??

Took me a while to start linking it but as soon as I understood the mechanics of bumping into the enemies as being critical I really started feeling the game. Great game....as soon as you understand that you do need to bump into enemies!

Onion Force is a 2D Tower Defence game in which you take possession of one of three heroes, a warrior/tank, a wizard/AoE and an archer/DPS, and you have to defend your king from a multitude of enemies. Being able to destroy and get money from objects that litter the map is a cool idea. Each character has two bars, a health bar and a stamina bar, stamina is used when they attack and health is used when they run into enemies. The warrior doesn't have an attack move, so they shouldn't have a stamina bar (Running into enemies isn't an attack). The three main characters can have items equipped to them, although every item I've gotten so far only increases attack. Every five levels there's a mini boss, there's a levelling system, eight towers and powerups, the game has hours of content. A few things I don't like about the game is that the only way to heal your stamina and health is to use a medical tent, if there is one I haven't reached that area. The knight unit doesn't even use stamina so I feel like he should heal without the use of a tent. Tents also use valuable tower spaces so being forced to waste a space for something that the characters should be able to do automatically is just silly. On the bigger levels, having to run over and stand on top of the tower area is place a tower is time consuming, I feel like moving your mouse there and doing it that way is much more efficient. When you're in the tower menu, the game remains unpaused yet you can't move or even attack. The game is an enjoyable TD, while there are a few issues the enjoyment I had while playing makes them much more tolerable. Worth getting if it's on sale.

I was going through my list of games and remembered I played Onion Force right when it came out. Checked the store page just to see if there were any updates or news. I can't believe this game has so few reviews. THIS IS A SUPER FUN TOWER DEFENSE GAME AND YOU SHOULD SUPPORT THE DEVELOPERS FOR THEIR CREATIVE FUN TWIST ON THE TD GENRE. I hope they make a sequel. THAT IS ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW.
