Known as the harbingers of death, the Khaaneph are a mysterious, nomadic people dwelling in the deep Southern Desert. Through intercepted transmissions, we know they are greatly feared by our most tenacious enemy, the Gaalsien. Our own reconnaissance confirms their mastery of the battlefield.

Definitely A worth it addition, Khaaneph is alot of fun to play, they are much more of a glass cannon than other factions but make up for it by looking cool.

Homeworld Deserts Of Kharak just keeps getting better, the Soban and Khaaneph DLC's add so much more to the game!
Even if you're not into the multiplayer side of things, the two DLC's add a ton more hours to the game for Skirmish mode!
BBI Devs seem to be doing everything right at the moment, they've responded to 99% of feedback, Deserts Of Kharak is shaping up to be probably one of the best Homeworld games yet!

Please don't go into this with the wrong expectations. This is good DLC, but for THOSE THAT UNDERSTAND THE MECHANICS OF THE BASE FACTIONS IN MULTIPLAYER. It is NOT reskin, there are new mechanics and tactics for this faction and for the other Soban DLC.
If you're really not sure, it goes down significantly during sales.

This DLC is kind of bad, since the Kaaneph units are all objectively unbalanced, they look really cool, but they either fall into the categories of near useless or ridiculously overpowered, and it simply hasn't been balanced around the other factions, for example the carrier's targeted missile ability, which can do far more damage than any other targeted weapon with no cost other than a cooldown.

This DLC is fun to use, but it requires a bit of time to get the hang of. It's not for everyone and I cannot recommend it at this price. Kharak is a $50 game with only two factions and is offering two $7 DLCs. If there is a mega sale and you're a big fan of the game, it's worth a buy though.

Russian translation is awful! Previous DLC was amazingly translated but this one is processed with auto-translator without any quality control.
The fleet itself is awesome.

So what do you do with this? Only play skirmish games? I thought I would be able to insert this into the main game for something different.

This adds the 4th faction to the game, you don't need to buy it to play against people who have it. If you find it pricey wait for it to go on sale, or if you want to support the developers get it now.

Combat report of Kith Somtaaw LCV Anushirawan regarding the Khaanephi engagament:
At first we believed them to be Gaalsien, their sandskimmer designs told as such, the first firefight didn't lead to any meaningful result.
Sudden realisation came after some unmanned drone tried to slam itself into our harvester units, they were saved by one of our AAVs. It was followed by short railgun skirmishes, situation remained nominal.
As the engagement progressed it felt a lot like the common skirmishes we had against the Gaalsien. The illsuion was broken by sudden missile barrages, SCs were in the AO. Small detachements saw no success as the Kaaneph SCs were fully suited for CQC. Engagement situation had escalatde too much, heavy air cover held it enemy assaults back, some ACs and BCs were deployed on our side as main defensive force.
Railgun long range engagements had started, no interception units could be sent due to superheavy ordenance being launched by Kaaneph LCV.
The final moments of the engagement were inconclusive, Kaaneph combat force disengaged after were were joined by a Kiith Soban LCV.
Final evaluation: Kaaneph forces visibly rely on Gaalsien tech to fight, but their own domestic retrofits are somewhat terrifying.
