Hey hey people. Lenny here. Do you want to play a game where you commit war crimes? Shooting down an unarmed civilian, finishing him off and then disobeying orders by attacking your commanding officer? If you answered yes, then you are sick. Or from the balkans. Or me. Welcome to the Revenant Prince, a game that hammers into you the importance of being able to spare or execute your enemies… but doesn’t actually tell you what the consequences of that will be. You are a war criminal on the run, called Troy. In a world that’s a mix of the cutest shit ever and absolute grimdark, you are an edgy chad trying to understand what the fuck is even going on all around you. Why do some people act like they’ve seen you before? Why do some npcs care about the amount of monsters you killed? How do they KNOW how many monsters you killed. Why is everyone making fun of your name? And most importantly – what’s this voice in your head that randomly stops time, says that life is suffering, gives exposition, judges your every major decision and commands you to kill certain people? “Huh I can spare or execute people, there’s some cute stuff and a deep plot – is this an edgy undert-” Shut the fuck up – no. I will make a few undertale jokes here and there, but comparing this game to undertale is unfair. Undertale brings a certain image to mind, which is different to different people. But none of these images fits what The Revenant Prince is all about. Undertale is a cutesy quirky game with weird game mechanics that can get deep and dark if you decide to pursue the darkness. In the revenant prince you don’t have weird rhythm mini-games as fight sequences. You don’t get a choice to talk instead of beating the shit out of your enemies. You just either execute or spare them and have changes in the game world depending on some kind of “morality” variable the game remembers. Closest comparison to undertale would be the behavior of certain shop npcs – in some shops npcs will refuse to make small talk or buy things from you if you kill one too many monsters. Also, the doggo won’t be nice to you – pet a husky doggo found in various towns to check how bad you are. Goodboys know who the badboys are. Enemies can say a few things during battle. Usually beg for their life and tell you how terrible you are. Sucks to be you treant – I’m killing you off anyway. But let’s explain the fighting mechanics a bit since they are a bit unusual. You can have three weapons equipped at any time. They get a light, heavy and special attacks, bound to Q, W and E respectively. You switch weapons with A S D which select first, second or third weapon. You also have options for using an item, equipping a new weapon to one of the slots, sparing your enemy and escaping. You select between the options using up and down arrow keys… Yeah this gets real messy and confusing and I’m not finished. Each QWE attack give a different cooldown to your weapon and you can’t use any attack of that weapon in that time. You can however freely switch to a different weapon and fire another one up. So battles are like a fast-paced dance of a mad warrior who randomly grabs weapons around him to cause carnage. Speaking of carnage, you also have the R button. You don’t get it right away but you’ll know when you do. It’s a pretty OP skill that drains an additional special meter that appears on the upper right corner and replenishes with received damage. You need to press it twice to get the transformation, as if the game is asking you “are you sure you want to do this?” but when asked about the consequence of using it, the game stays silent, mocking the question. First press of the button still stops time and gives a small change to the protagonist’s appearance… his eye gets surrounded by a blue flame like SANS UNDERTALE THE C❤M REAPER! Ekhm. Yes, moving on. There is yet ANOTHER mechanic you need to watch for but usually can be ignored – durability. If you keep spamming light attacks of a weapon without switching, then the weapon won’t get enough time to ‘regenerate’ durability, forcing you to switch. A bit dumb but managable. In general battles are a mess, but a fast paced mess that I love. However, I’d be pissed if I was playing a mercy route – I basically only use the item option to heal but having to constantly switch between item and mercy while my enemies are still attacking(it isn’t turn based) it’d get annoying and confusing fast and I’d probably end up killing a few enemies by total accident. Also there are a few bugs in the battle system and game in general. In battle I got stuck because an enemy stunned my character while I my attack animation was playing and the game didn’t know how to resolve this, stunlocking me. Save often in different slots because of such bugs – they are unavoidable but the game is worth playing despite themselves Now to the dark elements. There is a reason I made a shelf called “Eldritch and Obscure” on my steam library. This shit has almost exclusively positive reviews, but there’s so few of them that steam doesn’t even calculate it as “overwhelmingly positive” or something like that, limiting reach. This is the kind of game that Sseth doesn’t review, Mandalore doesn’t review and the mass “gaming” ‘media’ absolutely wouldn’t touch. This is something Saint would review – he’s the kind of guy who fishes games out of… WAYBACK MACHINE and in a language he doesn’t understand. For fun. But compared to most such games, Revenant Prince is art. It’s Kino pure and simple. But it is a dark kino. The game is all about making moral choices and being forced to do the wrong thing yet keeping your humanity… or ultimately losing it. Starting your game for a second time you might be greeted not with the starting screen but a text box saying “You are only prolonging the inevitable. Give up.” or other such ominous shit. When saving the game, anomalies will show up in your save files – distorted, black and white ghostly versions of the people you killed being showed as your “companions”. Sometimes you might get a random encounter that isn’t a battle, but a random ominous message like “You made your point”. I hopped right onto local files to see what’s inside. Games who do this thing often have gimmicks like making a .txt file with additional creepy shit, changing your wallpaper, having folders upon folders filled with additional cryptic lore… but this game just has one single file – the .exe. Yes, just the .exe. Entire over gigabyte worth of a game on a single fucking .exe as if they mocked you for expecting something in the folder, as if they wanted to troll you and give those datamining autists a challenge. I have no idea where the save files even are, but I’d use hex editors and all my occult knowledge to find even a small bit worth of this rabbit hole. Still, making a game this way is probably not the best idea programming-wise but I’m not knowledgeable enough to say what issues this might be causing. I haven’t finished this game but I am absolutely fascinated by the lore, the dark aspects, the hidden messages, everything. I urge you to buy it – full price. It’s absolutely worth it. 10/10 would descend into madness again.

I don't recommend anyone to buy this unless its on sale for $1. Too many glitches and errors. Been streaming this game for 4 days straight, many crashes and unknown header errors. Got to the restart of the game, "save the world and start over game+" pushed to the end again, got to the child of lights true form, she summoned bubbles and "unknown header" causing the game to crash. I will not be retrying it, you need to put save points in every end area until you can fix the game. Will be refunding the game. Please don not release an unfinished game. Only pros are music and animation of the land and villages, reminded me of Xenogears. The rest was horrible, no itemization, pointless to level up gear until the second play through, some items i got in the first play through where better then items in the second story.

A game made with much love. Pros: Story is a very deep and unique, with multiple endings Your actions shape the story to some extent Battle system is very unique and intense for a JRPG,really love it. New places/stuff to see on NG+ Music is nice Difficulty is medium (depends on how good someone is with the battle system) Graphics are good, especially in battles Many weird and funny stuff to see in the world of the game Cons: 2 crashes on random circumstances. Not a big deal as you can save anytime, anywhere. Although the story is very good and unique, the dialogues could be better. Controller doesnt work during battle. It could use some item organization tool for the incentory and a monster bestiary . Overall,I am still enjoying this game (25 hours in) and i recommend it for any JRPG fan .

First time I'm writing a review for a game, but this one definitely deserves all the publicity it can get The game strangely caught my attention when I was looking through new releases. For eight bucks I figured why not, seems decent enough. Boy was it worth it! The game's story is captivating enough to make you want to play through the whole thing and has a great amount of replayability (I've literally never played the same game twice in my life, be it New Game + or other mechanics alike, when it comes to games that have a story). This one was defnitely a game that made me want more of the story, the lore and the action and it makes you want to play it all in one breath. What I also loved about it was that the game rewards the player for being curious and gives you all these random items, funny conversations and strange places to find when you look around the world. I really missed that in a game and this one definitely delivers on that end. Regarding the battle mechanics. I personally haven't seen something that plays similarly so I can't say if it's original or not but I really liked it. The different equippable weapons that have different skills, the different armors that give cool buffs, a variety of items to use mid-fight are all so cool! It's sort of a mix between turn-based and action battle which for me is awesome, since I don't really like full-on turn based games a lot. The music is actually wonderful and there's a variety of tracks for the different places you visit, so that's pretty cool. The characters in the game aren't as memorable as I would have liked, but the story is concise enough for you to follow everything that happens and make you feel for the characters. Even some side characters actually make you go "Noooooo, whyyy??" From my perspective the game needs a little bit of polishing and it would turn out perfectly. There are some enemy scaling inconsistencies that can be fixed (maybe it's due to the way I played the game?), there are some bugs here and there, there are one or two characters whose story doesn't feel complete (again, maybe it's something I missed during my playthrough?), but all in all it was a great game and I loved every second of it. The creator is very responsive in the discord server for the game and is working hard to fix any issues that get reported. You can also get some hints for your playthrough "wink wink" So in conclusion for those TLDR peeps out there: Captivating story with lots of replayability where your choices matter Fun action with cool weapons Rewarding exploration for those who like to talk to all the NPCs and go right when the sign says "go straight" Very nice music Cool character designs and art overall Huge variety of equipment to use for your MC Bugs that need fixing here and there (definitely save more often) Enemy scaling is not too well implemented for future playthroughs (but it also allows for a faster playthrough when you want the true ending, so maybe it was on purpose?) 1-2 Characters' story not getting enough closure

This game is deep, a hidden gem, a must play if you are into the pixel adventure story genre. Pros: Awesome battle graphics. Intense Story. Undertale Vibes (dont get me wrong, this game is way different, but it has this weirdo factor, dunno how to describe). Interesting battle system. multiple choices. exploring is fun and talking to normal NPCs doesnt feel like a waste of time, like in other games. Cons: Battle System is a bit hard i feel like, main reason because its in real time and not turn based or something, i play on mouse and keyboard but i got used to it soon. at first i had some crashes at certain locations, but i didnt get anymore crashes at all, so i guess that was pretty much fixed fast. Buy the game its worth it.

Positive : -Story is surprisingly nice to discover, you'll wander throughout the world enjoying getting your exploration rewarded -Combat mecanic are nice and innovative especially for an RPG MAKER game -Actions have consequences Negative - A bit too grindy - Achievement currently arent working that would help to follow the storyline and avoid people dropping the game too early -Probably the worst part is the lack of direction you'll spent time looking for some NPC Overall: I'll be honest this game isn't for everyone, and would probably enjoy some hand holding . Hidden zone are everywhere and wont be marked so basically you gonna have to check ALOT of walls. But if you ever played some older RPG's you'll be right at home.
𝕋𝕙𝕖 𝕣𝕖𝕧𝕖𝕟𝕒𝕟𝕥 𝕡𝕣𝕚𝕟𝕔𝕖 𝕙𝕒𝕤 𝕤𝕦𝕣𝕡𝕣𝕚𝕤𝕖𝕕 𝕞𝕖; 𝕚𝕥'𝕤 𝕒 𝕘𝕒𝕞𝕖 𝕪𝕠𝕦 𝕡𝕝𝕒𝕪 𝕨𝕚𝕥𝕙 𝕒 𝕤𝕡𝕖𝕔𝕚𝕗𝕚𝕔 𝕥𝕙𝕠𝕦𝕘𝕙𝕥 𝕡𝕣𝕠𝕔𝕖𝕤𝕤 𝕚𝕟 𝕞𝕚𝕟𝕕.
This game suddenly popped into my "recommended" list of games; it had a minimal amount of reviews, had no community-related posts whatsoever... but the artsytle looked good so I decided to give it a try, worst case scenario I could get a refund and be done with it... Boy, was I in for a treat! This is a Party-Battle RPG similar to Final Fantasy (more Valkyrie Profile than Final Fantasy), except your only character is Troy... some dude who's enrolled in the army and is going for his first ever mission at the start of the game. At first, the game looked quite bland... the typos definitely made it worse immersion-wise, but I kept going thinking maybe it'll get better. A twist happened at the beginning of the game; let's just your first mission in the army turns out to be quite crappy lol... and I got hooked. The animations of foes are so well drawn it's actually a world of its own, that's the only possible way of describing it. Troy also has access to a huge arsenal of weapons appearently and each and every one of them are animated to perfection. During his adventures, Troy will meet a lot of people, some you will come to like, some you will come to hate; but most importantly you'll find yourself playing through the game loop after loop trying to save some of them from their inevitable demise. The game shifts depending on whether you spare your foes or execute them; it seems to affect a hidden moral compass that is directly tied to which ending you'll be getting during your playthroughs (underline PLAYTHROUGHS). After you discover your hidden lineage (and with it, Troy's full potential as a Time-Golem), the game shifts into an action-packed, amazing adventure RPG. There are also many side quests to resolve around the way, many places to visit (some of which are completely optional). The bossfights are almost souls-like; they involve a ton of tactics and you should always remember that slow and steady wins the race. During fights, you can scroll between three types of weapons (there are also subtypes, explained thoroughly during gameplay), and when to use which type is very crucial to actually win the fight. The Sphere Grid also gives you access to a ton of customization. All in all, this game is amazing and it goes for as low as a buck on sales. I'd really get it full price and it would still be worth the purchase. The story is not something you've never seen before, but since it involves a choices-matter directive I'd say it's worth playing through at least once... Twice for the beautifully animated sprites. The only problem with this game is the lack of Steam support for it, as in the Steam Overlay doesn't work and therefore you will not be able to take snapshots. 9/10; really amazed at the fact that this started out as an RPG-maker project.

I'd say it's overall a great game with and interesting story and battle mechanic. However at it's current state there are way too many crashes. The game crashes randomly, sometimes at the end of battles, sometimes during dialogues, sometimes just while exploring. While you can save everywhere, it is annoying that you have to constatly open up the menu and save because the game can crash every ten minutes or that it can crash right at the end of a bossfight because I used an item (Mega Elixir) that crashed it. As I said, if we don't look at the crashes it is a fantastic game, but right now it's too frustrating for me to recommend.
Summary
Graphics: 8/10 Exploration: 8/10 Combat: 9/10 Difficulty: 6/10 Progression / Customization: 8/10 Story: 7/10 Music: 8/10 Bugs and technical issues: 7/10
Graphics: 8/10
Custom Graphics There seems to be a lot of custom graphics, lots of animated sprites. Honestly it doesn’t even feel like an RPG maker game graphically. Immersive and Beautiful maps There are some very immersive and beautiful maps in the game. The maps make the game feel like a world. This is especially true once you get out of the snow area in the beginning. You will really get a feel for this when you reach the city of Rollando which is a massive beautiful city and combined with the music makes it a wonderful area to explore. Wide array of character graphics This game has many different kinds of characters. You have the humans which have some nice graphics. You have some animals (including bunnies which feels straight out of Netflix’s Beastars if you have watched that). You have a wide array of strange animals, spirits, and living objects which almost makes it feel like the Spirited Away movie in a way.
Exploration: 8/10
Semi open world The game starts out in a snowy area and is fairly linear as it starts the story and teaches you the game mechanics. Once you leave the snowy area the game opens up a lot. It isn’t a full open world as you will run into barriers due to the story such as not being able to take the train because it isn’t running. However you will be able to go in multiple directions and complete a lot of side quests, quest board quests, and the main quest. Rewarding exploration There are a lot of decent items to find in the world and quite a few side quests and events which have some good rewards. Encounter rate The game allows you to increase and decrease the encounter rate at will. This is quite nice so that you can explore or move through areas you have already been easily. However monsters give a lot of interesting items and loot and combined with a fun combat system makes finding monsters a good thing. There are also some difficult rare monsters you have a chance to find which is a nice addition too.
Combat: 9/10
Unique real time strategic combat I have never seen an RPG with this kind of combat before. It is fast paced, but also strategic and that combination makes it a lot of fun. - You have 3 weapons, each weapon has 3 skills. Combining different weapons for different purposes adds a lot of choice here. - The three skills cause that weapon to go on cooldown, generally two skills have a short cooldown while one skill has a high cooldown. - You can freely switch to another weapon while your previous weapon is on cooldown. This ability to switch allows you to chain skills together so that you can continuously attack while other weapons are on cooldown. - Enemies have an action bar so you can see when each enemy is about to attack. Knowing this you may want to switch to your shield weapon temporarily to help defend against an attack. - You start to develop builds with different attack combinations because of this combat system. However you still need to react to what your enemy is doing as well. Combat animations The combat animations feel like they have impact and they are quite smooth with nice damage numbers. Learning Combat Combat may feel a bit daunting at the start, but I was amazed at how fast I picked it up. Once you get used to it you become a lot stronger. There is a training dummy in the east part of the starting forest which is good to practice your combat against.
Difficulty: 6/10
Difficulty at the start The difficulty seems decent in the beginning until you fight some white wolves. The first time you encounter them they will probably destroy you. However once I got used to the combat system it changed from them destroying me to me being able to beat them consistently without upgrading my gear or stats. They were still a decent challenge, but one that I felt I overcame by my own skill and it felt good Difficulty in the mid game I am currently in the mid game and have upgraded my character with a lot of gear and sphere grid upgrades. Some normal monsters can provide a decent challenge especially if you travel to places beyond the immediate area the main story expects you to be in. Difficulty in the mid game With the alternate version of the world being a new game+ like situation the game becomes too easy because the monsters don't get stronger even though you retain your strength. I wish there was more end game challenge in the 2nd world.
Progression / Customization: 8/10
Gear variety The best part of progression is the gear variety. Most gear has a special effect beyond just the stats it gives (view the special effect in the item screen). Special effects such as extra dmg the lower your health is, 20% atk stat bonus, to lower defense, but increased BP regen. Additionally different weapon types have different active skills so there is a good variety to choose from there. Gear upgrades Upgrading gear requires materials you find throughout the game. It boosts the stats of the gear. This is nice and where a lot of your money will go, but I haven’t seen any exciting buffs beyond just basic stat increases. Sphere Grid The sphere grid system allows you to put points you gain from killing or sparing enemies into different stats. You can choose between offense, defense, or utility. The grid has bonuses to basic stats like atk, matk, def, hp, etc. The utility grid has a few other unique bonuses such as increased xp, BP, etc. Once you complete one grid you can then choose another one of the three to increase next. I would have liked to have seen more interesting bonuses in the grids beyond mostly basic stats though.
Story: 7/10
Good quality story scenes The story scenes are decent quality and the conversations are well done. I think they get better after the beginning as well. I think the beginning was the worst point story wise for me. Good and evil choices You can make a lot of good and evil choices. I assume this has effects on the story. I plan a full good and full evil play through. Start is confusing The story in the beginning is confusing and filled with mystery and unknowns. However I think it is supposed to be that way since the main character says himself he has no idea what is going on. The story deals with maybe an alternate universe or time travel, or something like that. In the mid game I am starting to understand the story more, but there is still a lot of mystery and unknowns to be revealed.
Music: 8/10
Beautiful soundtracks Some of the sound tracks in this game are beautiful and amazing. The entrance to Rollando is my favorite so far I think. They really help create a great atmosphere and enhance the beauty of the world.
Bugs and technical issues: 7/10
Bugs are rare, but big when they occur I have rarely encountered bugs in the game so far, however when I have they are big. - Some people have said talking to the penguin in the beginning crashes their game. I didn’t have that happen, but I would suggest saving before talking to the penguin or just don’t talk to him. However if it is the penguin in the general store you will miss out on some nice music. - I got a black screen when going to a map once. Once I moved to a different map and came back it fixed it. Controllers don't work for combat. I wish it did so I didn't have to switch to keyboard for combat and controller for everything else.
