An ancient dragon stirs again, breathing with all the weight of time.

It's been over two decades since I last played this game. It's my second favorite of the series. The combat/combo system was ahead of its time. It's something you should try blind if you've never played it and enjoy classic RPGs. My favorite of the series is BoF3 which is a complete gem of a game.

Cozy jrpg, awkward pc controls, on the easy side, but still fun.

Not Recommended for the general audience; play this only if you either 1) played it back in the day and have nostalgia, or 2) want a real classic experience and can understand how at its time this was the peak of gaming. The port has some significant issues with input mapping and audio balance, but is otherwise fine. Despite the game not aging well, you can find here early iterations of many systems that became common in the future.

Get the GoG version if you hate DRM. Takes finangling to look good, and work properly. Definitely buggy on linux, but it's worth it to finally get some breath of fire on steam. I REALLY WANT DRAGON QUARTER!

An extremely bare bones port of an excellent game. It's insane to me that a port of a console game doesn't have basic controller support.

I have mixed reactions to this game: Pros 1. Nostalgic specially if you have played it before. Cons 1. No button mapping, I know you can download custom mapping but it is a annoying to read different buttons on screen vs steam decks buttons. 2. No additional options like faster game speed, faster on screen text, etc. 3. It's like I'm playing of poorly ported emulated game.

Breath of Fire 4 is a great game from the golden era of JRPGs but this port is not great. Honestly you'd have a better experience emulating the game. If that makes you feel guilty, then consider buying this so you don't feel guilty, then emulate it.
