So to start off this game almost has no connection to the mainline series of games, BlazBlue. So if you're getting into this for that change that train of thought, though they do reference some of that worlds aspect into this game.
Best parts of this game are each scene is fully voice acted, good music to accompany the scene, the sprites are decent, the cg are good, and the story routes great especially the Es route least to me are splendid. Now the cons of the games kind of stick out sometimes but it didn't really get to ruin my enjoyment.
First con was the beginning of the game, the story was kind of meh and didnt hook my as much until i saw some of the "BlazBlue" references and such. Another would be the pacing of the game(its a VN lol), what i mean is there are certain parts where the characters are friends for a bit and then extremely pissy at each other to the point it just ruined my immersion lol. Though that doesn't happen as often as it does but nonetheless it ruined the immersion a bit for me. The other con would be the protagonist as he can be insufferable at sometimes on certain routes of the game. Though it gets rectified near the end of the game but thats too late to leave a good impression on the reader.
In the end i really did enjoy the VN as a whole and it was very sweet knowing some of the endings and what they represent in the games. How some of the endings do link into each other leading to one of the routes being the "true" end for some as it would lead into the sequel XBlaze: Lost Memories. So for the time being i give this VN a 8/10 as I was sucked into its world and starting to love its mythos.
(p.s. my review was probably written horribly but thanks for reading if you did)

Not for me. Couldn't get into the story, while going in knowing nothing about this franchise. Judging by others, it's not the best story to learn of this series.

Pretty good visual novel that takes place in the BlazBlue universe. I think this was mostly made to make you understand what they're talking about in the fighting games, but that's just my hypothesis. I don't know if ArcSys still updates this game, but at least it's cheaper than looking for a PS3 disc of it.

This "niche" BlazBlue prequel that brought me and my irl best friend making memes. I want these characters in the fighting game lmao
I also love the use of Dubstep+Opera, and even some old Mario tunnel NES vibes in some songs C;

The first of the two XBlaze visual novels, a prequel to the main BlazBlue games. Even if you're not familiar with the latter, you don't neccessarily have to be in order to enjoy Code:Embryo. The main character is an average highschooler, rescued from a fugitive using weird powers by Es, a short girl with a big sword, and from that point onwards craziness unfolds and new characters engage into the plot. Fairly lengthy, with multiple routes and endings, including typical for the series "gag" scenario. Instead of making typical choices at varying points in the story, you affect the outcome by reading (or not reading) news articles on your device known as TOi (Technology of Interest).
Recommended to anybody who enjoys visual novels and / or is a fan of the main BlazBlue games. Es is best girl!

I simply love this game. The way it looks like, the way it works, the way it relates the story. It reminds me of the times I was in high school. All those anime heroes and villains, all that creative energy and all those battles. I got to say that this game, although it's a visual novel, is remarkably well done.
PROS:
- Classic anime introduction to the story;
- Great soundtrack;
- Intriguing, complex story line with multiple endings;
- Character profiles along with tips and extras;
- Engaging game;
- Great saving and loading features;
- The main protagonist looks like Taemin from SHINee;
- The achievements are obtainable;
CONS:
- I had to click left ALT + Enter. The main menu appeared enlarged and I couldn't see the buttons. So I've clicked the above combination and the screen fit! Then I went to Settings to set the window resolution.
- Through trial and error, I found buttons that can do different things within the game, not just O for Back, Q for QuickSave. For example, letter J pops the Toi articles and the character profiles. Letter I gets me to the Tips section. Letter N gets me to the previous dialogues. It's best to keep a written note.
- Nothing else to add.
Oh, and one more thing... Sechs! I love you, boy!

Easy skip, just read the wiki.
Painfully mediocre hard-templated haremtrash writing.
"Wait, a high school boy is living with non-blood related female relatives, w/ parents conspicuously absent?
For some reason this seemingly ordinary boy is suddenly attracting lots of attention from lots of hot girls, much to the chagrin of his one and only male friend? Wowzer!!!1"
Great visuals, alright music, bad writing, barely any relevant Blazblue lore.
Character profiles are of no use and make very little sense:
ie: "X is very mature for her age.", proceeds to verbally berate a random girl and to constantly physically abuse the MC.
Translation could be be better:
ie A foe decides to refer to one character as a 'doll' to dehumanize them, yet "creature" is sometimes shown to the reader.
Only content worth experiencing would be the alright gag route.

"XBlaze! Activate!" (Updated Review as of 7/6/16)
If you ever thought to find your normal everyday life wasn't normal, then you've come to the right place, we start out our story of the Azure/Blue/etc. with Touya Kagari, a normal High School student with his pals Hinata and Akira, but when Touya comes to a place of remembrance, he meets a mysterious girl by the name of Es, and the two start their journeys together.
As it is, XBlaze is the prequel story to the popular fighting game series "BlazBlue", the lore you'll seek from BlazBlue will also be mentioned here as well, including some characters within similar familiar names and other viable info. Originally available on the PS3/PSV, the Steam release is more or less the same as it is, with a few PC options to tweak to your style, along with the option to have the subtitles either in full English or Japanese. The game is pure Visual Novel, so the game relies on its own system called the "Toi" (which also has Character Bios), using it wisely will decide your fate, from getting the good, bad, or even the gag endings. Using "Tips" will let you know on info of the XBlaze world, though some of it will differ depending on which character route you're planning to clear.
Either way, the port is great, and it loads scenes and such faster than the console version (also, bonus extras if you happen to clear all routes in the game), but yes, as usual with majority PC players, there will be problems with people trying to run it, it happens to some, but not all, but it happens. That's what there's the forums/discussions are they for people to check out the issues and for users that can help out on it if at all possible.
As of 3/3/16, a 9.1MB Patch/Update/Etc. has fixed some of the game's issues as I've originally mentioned before, that being the A.O.S. crash, the half and half localization errors, and probably crashes when trying to continue certain chapters/routes. There still might be some bugs in there, but will be known whenever necessary.
As of 7/6/16, Aksys Games announced at Anime Expo that XBlaze Lost: Memories will now get its steam port, so yeah! \^^/

Really, really sad to see only a handful of reviews about this game. Only 38 at the time I type this and that after over a year on steam. Hence why I write this review. XBlaze and Arc System Works deserve the support.
What can I say about the game? Everyone who loves BlazBlue like me should absolutely take it. Even if you wouldn't consider yourself a big fan of VNs. Story wise it's also not too complicated for new comers. The basics are more than easy explained for BlazBlue standards. Great Animation, Music and Seiyuus (Especially liked Es and Unomaru).
If I could complain about one thing it would only be that I would have loved if they offered the soundtrack as download as it's often the case with Arc System games.
