If you play at "Average" difficulty or above, you will get hammered by the AI cheating.
1. In any galaxy (including "Huge"), even if you choose just 2 races, they will always be setup right next to you, boxing you in.
2. The other races will not fight each other, and they will rapidly expand in the opposite direction.
3. Within 150 turns, one of the races will literally have triple the # of Colonies that you have.
This happens every single time. Change Races? Still broken. Change Galaxy size? Still broken.
The posters who played this in the 90's all say the same thing - something changed to make the game 300% more difficult than it was originally.
Buy the package for MOO2. Don't waste your time installing this miserable offering.
Unless you enjoy getting beat down on every campaign.

One of the classic 4x games, that still did many things best. Unlike newer entries into the genre that I've tried, this one does not bog the player down with the minutia that a stellar commander would relegate to underlings. It is simple and straight forward. The combat is definitely oversimplified though.
