Pros: -Awesome Art -Great Music -Fun twist on a classic genre -Replayable if you don't get frustrated and give up (much like a rogue lite) Cons: -Have to learn controls on the fly -Only a few maps -Maps don't differ too much other than themes -REALLY hard to get coins from maps and treasure from gambling hard This game has proven to be undeniably difficult, but in no way does that retract from the enjoyment of playability. The creator has set the date of release to 1-2 months, but as it stands now it has a fantastic amount of replay to it. The first dungeon is difficult and by no means one which acts as a tutorial. Rather it throws you in the midst of it. Do not be dissuaded by that either, the controls aren't difficult to pick up and there are a great deal of random drops throughout the stage progression. I played this with two other of my friends, who happen to also be part of the channel I'm with. We started this game up with only the briefest of ideas as to what lay within. Epic boss fights, challenging stages, low set health and an ever present need to protect a princess. My group thoroughly enjoyed this, we continue to play it even now, and look forward to whatever else this developer happens to release. Most games on early access I loathe and almost detest to even try to play. Most are barely playable or stuffed with game breaking bugs. This game is good to go as it is and frankly whatever happens next we're consistently brought back to try and tackle that damned ice dungeon. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JxQh044FBR4 Check out the video if you want to see more gameplay and get a broader understanding! Just from watching the steam video and screenshots my understanding of how this game played was way different from actuality, not in a bad way mind you, so this video might also let you see how this game plays before you actually want to get it for yourself.

Overall, a diamond in the rough that is definitely worth your time if you like this style of classic arcade games. The controls are very well tuned and the challenge is decent. PROS: + Simply, a ton of fun (although there is room for improvement... which leads me to the next point). + The dev seems great. They are responsive and seem to be continuing to fine tune and expand things. NEUTRAL: / At first it can be a bit difficult to see what's going on and learn the various ways you can die. However, once you get going the game is fair. / Currently, even on the hardest difficulty, it can take about 20 minutes on some maps to get to a point where the challenge kicks in (once you learn the ins and outs of the game). Thus, there is a small slog through the first few waves. CONS: None really. It's not perfect, but at the price point and for this genre on steam, this is already top of it's class. Some more work at this could become a classic.

This is a pretty fun game to kill five or ten minutes with. The promo video showcases the basic gameplay, which doesn't change dramatically, like a classic arcade platformer. A couple of levels and a couple of characters keep things lively and interesting!

"Incrase Maximum HP" pretty much sums up the game. They didn't put in enough effort or competency to polish this game at all. Bugs everywhere, no in-game explanation as to what you are doing. Somewhat misleading in the description. Extremely short on content, I beat all the bosses in 30 minutes. Very easy game that gets boring quickly. Anyway, tower defense game with no strategy. Says Survival but more of a Tower Defense. If the maiden at the bottom gets hit it's game over. Took me a while to figure out why i was instantly dying for no reason. Press down to build simple defense structures. Level up to increase HP or ATK. Kill enemies until you die. Doesn't seem to keep track of your scores or anything either so there really is no point in going for a higher wave count. Says "TOP" at the bottom of the map select but that number seems random. Sometimes says 0 after beating 11 waves, other times says 22 after beating 6 waves. Enemies are mostly just walkers with a one flying enemy. Nothing new here. Bugs are quite ridiculous in this game. Music bugs are the most annoying. Sometimes stops playing music altogether but if you are really lucky, it'll play two songs at once. Sounds amazing. My final verdict, too high a price for so little game play. This is the kinda game i'd expect on an app store for free.

While I totally like what I see so far with Jet Set Knights, I'd highly encourage you to wait to purchase until there is more content. What content is there right now is really awesome, though. The game is very similar to Super Crate Box and the original single-screen Mario Bros.. What makes this wayyy more awesome is that there is going to be four player local involved. Hopefully soon, too. Pros: +Its difficult, in a good way +Artwork and sound is really good +There are multiple levels, and all are significantly different +There is meta-game unlocks, and a currency, which is cool +Controller support is working well +It also has elements of tower defense which are implemented nicely Cons: -While I think this game will reach the original vision, much much more developement is needed Keep this on your radar if you liked Super Crate Box (if you have never played that - its free on Steam and is really addicting).

Really well done retro game, and that is a underwhelming statement. The creator was absolutely aware of his design choices and implemented them in a really professional style. The art & design is in line with 8 to 16bit legends. On the other hand, the gameplay was extended in many ways modern games offer. The game itself is a mix of super Mario Bros. the original arcade game, and classic jump and runners. Simple, but fun. 9/10. (not a 10, this would require the implementation of a online mulitplayer mode, with hot seat, and MORE BOSSES..,)

I have had lots of fun playing this in co-op mode with my daughter. It is perfect as a co-op game although I hate being yelled at. I am always on the look out for fun co-op games and this definitely gets a big tick from me. The graphics are great like all of the developers games.

Tags: Casual - Twitch & Arcade Note: Steam Refund TLDR: This is similar to the original Mario Bros/Donkey Kong game. Simple platforms. Simple foes. But adds tower defense, and some zelda-like rpg elements such as hearts. The jump animation is a bit too exagerated and some attack animations are annoying in their implementation but at least they behave always the same way in a predictable manner and the arenas are small and simple. Matches are often short lived and you are often funnelled in certain directions to avoid a hard game over so the game is actually fairly restrictive in how it can be played despite appearances. There is a bit of a random element in what the foes drop, and your positioning will impact greatly which attacks will be more effective. If the princess at the bottom is captured you lose. It is possible to build little towers and walls and the princess sometimes issues simple achievement type quests for what I presume is a bonus. Altogether the game is one of the better adaptations of this retro type of simple platformer. The Xbox360 pad responded correctly, the CRT filter and the animations went well with each other and the game features multiple player co-op and would probably be playable by children due to its simple concepts and relative slow pace. Unfortunately the gameplay loop relies mostly on staying out of trouble and opportunistically taking pot shots while making sure nothing gets too close to the princess. It can hook you and definitely holds some entertainment value in co-op. Probably one of the better if not the best iteration in this specific subniche. It is hard to say however if the extras really warrant a standalone purchase or if you would be better off staying free 2 play with super crate box or playing a proper platformer altogether instead. Conclusion: Might be worth a dollard for its featureset and simple gameplay otherwise skip to better games. https://store.steampowered.com/app/250760/Shovel_Knight_Treasure_Trove/ https://store.steampowered.com/app/241600/Rogue_Legacy/

I wish I could give this a thumbs up. There is a major problem with the collision detection where you can be hit by objects that are nowhere near you. I am tired of dying this way, and playing this simple game has become a complete chore as a result. If they fixed the wonky hitbox/collision problem I would happily recommend but I just can't. If you see my play time more than an hour it's because I'm card idling.
